Beating Xan is easy what's annoying are the matches against "The Corrupt" in the lead up to Xan, because they're off killing each other at the other end of the map and racking up a lead against you.
Its unfortunate that no modern game has been able to encapsulate the arena that UT99 had. This was the shooter to start all modern day shooters. I remmeber this, Rainbow 6, Baldurs gate and Neverwinter Nights as games that i adored when i was younger.
I have played for several years, but never managed to go for the storyline higher than masterful. I remember that the main problem was, that in deathmatch the AI were more quickly in killing each others. In opposition to that, having just ONE opponent like XAN, it was quite easy to win, because he couldn't get frags from somewhere else than me.

When there are a lot of people, you can steal kills, and as long as you had the most kills, you win. It's much tougher when you cannot be cheap like that in 1v1.

He was able to collect every shield belt because he knew exactly when the next belt respawns and when he has to be there... that made me quit the league because it was another Level of game control... outstanding

Maybe ,The game set him up with +3 skill if you seen the sliders for botskill , and there are some tweaking done to him. He more aggresive than Barak with Flak. Anyway Loque was aimbot and Tammerline had +0.9 to aim where 1.0 is you never miss and if the missed then the weapon mad max aim or spread or their level was to low and not allowed to like Loque headshot at novice.

But those who manage to do it are rewarded with a way to put HUGE dents on a fully armored and shielded opponent, instantaneously fragging those who are not even wearing some kind of armor if you manage a point blank shot.

I remember playing Xan when I was a kid, and the only way I could kill him was alternate fire with the flak cannon as he went through those tunnels with the health vials. Dunno if it was Godlike, though.
The first time I played this game was around 2008. My first play was a test at Barricade with bots. I spawned near the pulse gun and then I got killed. That made me lower the game speed to the 50% and difficulty level to the easiest one. Now I still play it with some increadible mods ( Multi Capture the flag, Matrix-Max Payne mod, Nali Weapons III, a mod for playing as a Unreal Monster). I have increased overall difficulty at the first level which makes you took the same amount of damage as boots. But I haven't changed game speed a single time; remains at 50%. I'm so used to playing it at that speed that any different speed seems to be unrealistic and UNREAL for me.
Really Xan is super easy on godlike, just dont engadge him face to face . He will always chase . Get the goo gun or flak and wait him out in the lower corridors while he chases, when he steps in the green goo and dies go get all the power ups. This guy did well with shock rifle on his frags, but the easy way is to use bio rifle and let him chase in lower hallway that connects flak to bio rifle
the powers the action figure haas are so overwhelming and asthonishing given the regular military english commands. A comic figure that does the work of 20 comrades ;-)
(cont...) Deathmatch - Ridiculously hard considering it's all about frags per minute past round 4. Even if you have a high efficiency, you'll lose if you can't kill fast enough. Plus, the bots can pretty much kill you with a couple rounds of the regular pistol because they never miss. You have to get the shock rifle/sniper early and often along with good armor or the shield belt plus a couple good guns to go on sprees which you need to win. Waiting 4 weapons to respawn is the biggest challenge.

I grew up on this game aswell as quake, halflife, kotor, serious sam, deus ex, alice, castle wolfenstein, doom, elder scrolls, worms, etc. So many other series. Ut 1st game i ever played when i was 4 years old. 2nd playthrough i tore through godlike, to join amongst the online ranks, too bad you wont find full packed servers.

Difficulty ranking (Godlike setting): Assault - super easy if you know maps Domination - super easy without much map knowledge Capture the Flag - pretty easy, although Lava Giant is a pain until you realize all you have to do is pop the one Skaarj camping near the front window in the castle on blue with a quick headshot and use your gravity boots to bounce out. Also helps to grab the super health pack and shield first so when they aimbot your ass on the way out it just gives you a nice boost
You are correct, however don't forget that there are spawn frags in UT as well + camping is possible and sometimes effective in duels (in controlling shield belts, amps etc). But that's far more controlled than in COD, you are right. You can build great strategies against individual opponents that way.
And still a good game. Played countless hours in the past, but I still play ut2004 at 1440p under Windows 10 on a gtx1080. My graphics card is way overpowered for ut2004 but the gameplay is worth the gold. But all clanbased ut2004 with a own mod and 365 maps fitted in 12,4 GB on SSD. I love UT all of them. (eg my gtx1080 is mostly used for the Witcher 3 and other newer games, but nothing is so nostalgic as the unreal franchise!!

if my memory serves me right. xan is the basis that an aim bot is programed. he has a near 100% accuracy.

Really Xan is super easy on godlike, just dont engadge him face to face . He will always chase . Get the goo gun or flak and wait him out in the lower corridors while he chases, when he steps in the green goo and dies go get all the power ups. This guy did well with shock rifle on his frags, but the easy way is to use bio rifle and let him chase in lower hallway that connects flak to bio rifle
the powers the action figure haas are so overwhelming and asthonishing given the regular military english commands. A comic figure that does the work of 20 comrades ;-)

Deathmatch - Ridiculously hard considering it's all about frags per minute past round 4. Even if you have a high efficiency, you'll lose if you can't kill fast enough. Plus, the bots can pretty much kill you with a couple rounds of the regular pistol because they never miss. You have to get the shock rifle/sniper early and often along with good armor or the shield belt plus a couple good guns to go on sprees which you need to win. Waiting 4 weapons to respawn is the biggest challenge.

was a great time. if i remember all those multiplayer maps added by the community. and dont forget the BUNNY TRACKS.
i mostly played online multiplayer instagib CTF in UT GOTY long time ago.

I grew up on this game aswell as quake, halflife, kotor, serious sam, deus ex, alice, castle wolfenstein, doom, elder scrolls, worms, etc. So many other series. Ut 1st game i ever played when i was 4 years old. 2nd playthrough i tore through godlike, to join amongst the online ranks, too bad you wont find full packed servers.
Unreal Tournament was amazing. God its games like this that make me miss 1999. Being 10 years old and not having to worry about shit except playing a new map with instagib mod. Fuck

loved the shock rifle too, and when i got couple bullets left trow that thing away, better take a new rifle with enough bullets in it
and i used the side way flip too a lot to dodge ^^
and that "laugh" taunt *hahaha*, i used it so many times xD

Difficulty ranking (Godlike setting):
Assault - super easy if you know maps
Domination - super easy without much map knowledge
Capture the Flag - pretty easy, although Lava Giant is a pain until you realize all you have to do is pop the one Skaarj camping near the front window in the castle on blue with a quick headshot and use your gravity boots to bounce out. Also helps to grab the super health pack and shield first so when they aimbot your ass on the way out it just gives you a nice boost

You are correct, however don't forget that there are spawn frags in UT as well + camping is possible and sometimes effective in duels (in controlling shield belts, amps etc). But that's far more controlled than in COD, you are right. You can build great strategies against individual opponents that way.

And still a good game. Played countless hours in the past, but I still play ut2004 at 1440p under Windows 10 on a gtx1080. My graphics card is way overpowered for ut2004 but the gameplay is worth the gold. But all clanbased ut2004 with a own mod and 365 maps fitted in 12,4 GB on SSD. I love UT all of them. (eg my gtx1080 is mostly used for the Witcher 3 and other newer games, but nothing is so nostalgic as the unreal franchise!!

I remember when I used to have problems dealing with this fucker, then one day I just kicked his ass on godlike and proceeded to do it ever so often just for enjoyment. Wish I got to play online.
