I can't believe that Praiseworthy isn't on the list! My Friends at the longest book is hardly a chunckster, I finished it in two days, it actually got me out of a month long reading slump.
I've read four My Friends and James are my favourites so far. My fifth will be Held which is funnily enough sitting on Hold at the library 🙂

Please know you are heard: Praiseworthy is STILL on my TBR list thanks to you! I'm embarking on my 8th of the Booker 'dozen' and forging full speed ahead. Not sure why, but I confess: I suspect the deadline is helping to egg me on. I also look forward to both Caledonian Road and Tom Grattan's In Tongues, both on my TBR ASAP pile. Lit-rich and grateful.

Great to follow along your chat about the list! It's funny because I'm really invested in the Women's Prize, doing predictions and all and I get a bit disappointed by the list because I have expectations. Coming on to the Booker I'm usually just here for the vibes and there's no real disappointment, just excitement! I thought this was the most exciting longlist in quite a few years and looking forward to diving into some of these titles. My library only has 3 sadly!
Also I know there's no African born authors, but Matar is Libyan. It's nice to see so many women being represented, but it's not a very diverse list in terms of cultures...
Aha, that’s the best way of doing it! I sometimes wish I knew less about what was eligible so I would just enjoy it as a group of 13 new books.
Would like to think they were so determined to give it to Everett that they didn't want to distract themselves with Praiseworthy.

Hession's Leonard and Hungry Paul was great. I'm looking forward to Ghost Mountain. Also still waiting for Persaud's The Lost Love Songs of Boysie Singh since I loved Love After Love. Neither yet on our US side of the 'pond.'

I’m watching this on the 31st, so I’ve had a day for things to settle. I agree with the person that says this is a list of “normal” books. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I do so love being astonished. I probably will read most of them. I strongly agree about Praiseworthy. I’d like to see Alexis Wright win the Nobel.
Yes! It’s always a trade-off, right? More accessible and enjoyable, or bolder but more infuriating for people!

@@BobTheBookerer Ohh! I hope you will enjoy it! It has a sweet small nod to The Essex Serpent actually but you don't need to read it before that. It's a slow read but you get immersed in it the more you're into it. I really liked it, I think it's objectivelly her best work although personally I love The Essex Serpent the most because I love Victorian Lit hehe. I was secretly hoping it would be on the longlist although it has its flaws. Very happy :)
Couldn't make it for the live and I know the longlist now already, but I'm still watching the recording to see your reactions.
I'm a bit disappointed with the longlist tbh, I'm always hoping for a lot of surprises. Especially with regard to finding new authors.

Catching up at the end of the day after work but came straight to your video rather than the official announcement. Surprisingly quite a few on my wish list this year including stoneyard devotional, orbital and wandering stars

I'm a bit disappointed because part of the fun is finding new books and buying them. I have all of these books already (the Powers & Kushner editions are arcs) and I've read three of them (Everett, Perry and Michaels). I didn't realise how prepared I was for the Booker longlist.

I have only read one, the same one the rest of the world has read 😂 Ordered the other 12 this morning and will wait for them to arrive. I did pick up Praiseworthy at a used book store this past weekend and will buy that chunk on my winter read, when I have more down time.
