When the weather gets hot, it's time to bring out the grill and have a BBQ! There is nothing as delicious as a well grilled burger or hotdog on a hot summer day. Except, what makes a perfect grilled food? Food Theorists, I pose this question: Do you grill with charcoal or propane? Is there a difference in taste or quality grilling depending on which you use? That is what I aim to find out today! I take my food very seriously and I won't stop until we all know the RIGHT way to grill!

Theory idea: how long would the ninja turtles survive based on being turtles and eating mostly pizza.
EDIT: I think that it would make sense for it to be a food theory as it's about nutrition and the diet of the turtles.
EDIT2: As it turns out apparently matpat already did talk about if turtles can eat pizza in a film theory, but what i meant was not a theory asking if turtles could eat pizza (They can), but rather how long they would be able to survive eating mostly pizza because I don't think pizza would be good for the turtles to eat over other foods.

For heat control, you use hot areas, i like to pile my charcoal in the middle (peaking @ about 1 in from the grate) and leave the edges with indirect heat. That way you get a nice hot sear, and can cook to term without burning.

In the future with taste tests like this you’ll get more trustworthy results with a blind triangle test. Don’t tell them what they are tasting for. You give them three samples, two of the same and one different, then ask which one is different. Then ask which they prefer. Then you can tell them what the difference is (not which sample is which just the different cooking method being tested). If you can get a statistically significant number picking out the different sample you know the taste difference is significant. There is some math you have to do there based on sample size to find your p-value but that is the number of correct guesses you need to know it is statistically significant. The subject not knowing what is being tested until after they have tried to guess the different sample and which is their preference also helps to eliminate bias brought into the experiment. But I’d love to see you do more experiments like this.

Reminder that propane grills are far more prone to failure. It's pretty obvious when you consider that the propane grill needs working parts, where the charcoal is just a bowl with some grates. The cheap propane grills though are failing all the time. Charcoal grills eventually rust out, but propane rarely lasts nearly that long.
Also, I work in junk removal. Propane grills are easily in the top 3 of most common items for us to pick up after mattresses and couches.

After a couple of decades of being charcoal purest I switched to propane for convenience. It was after camping on in a drought where all wood fires, including charcoal grill were banded. The following year, I bought a propane camp grill and like the convenience of just firing up the grill and cooking almost immediately. Shortly after that I also got rid of all my Colman fuel camping equipment in favor of propane and loved the convenience there as well.

  • @christophercole8114
    @christophercole8114 Před rokem

Gas grills are great if you want an easier set up, lower overall maintenance (unless a burner gets clogged), and are fairly new to grilling and don't want a large learning curve, or you're a frequent griller who just doesn't want to use extra time up in prep.
Charcoal grills are great if you really want to test your skill at grilling, figuring out how much charcoal briquettes to use, how long you will have to light them prior to cooking, and you want a more distinct flavor.
While I have used both extensively, my personal preference is for charcoal. It's not just about the flavor for me, it's about working the skill I have, preparing not only the grill itself but also what I'll be cooking on it. I generally like to make my own burger patties out of 80-20 ground beef, and season it myself. When I grill a steak, I am going to prep it ahead of time. Hot dogs, I'm using the highest quality I can find, not the cheapest. Chicken, it's going to marinade. And so on, and so forth. If I'm going to put that work into the food, I'm going to put the work into the way it's cooked. The problem I have with a video like this is that there really isn't a right answer, even though in my personal opinion I'm going to lean heavily toward chacoal. It's about your skill level combined with how much effort you're willing to put in combined with ultimately what your goal is in grilling.

I have a used gas grill that they had for like 5 years and I've had it about 2 so it's very possible to last 6.5 years. I've had my cheap $13 charcoal one for 5 years as well. Not covered and both sit out in the ran and harsh winters uncoverd and both perfectly fine

I used to have a charcoal grill for about...12-ish years when I was young, we switched to propane when me and my dad started grilling in year round including while it's snowing. Our grill is about 3 years old and this is our third gas grill in the past 20-ish years, I grill often twice a week to sometimes four times a week depending on the sales at the supermarket.

I got mine free but I've seen holiday sales for $125, the tank for the first time new is $50 to $60 and $20 to $25 for a refill. I've had my first tank last 1 year grillling like 3 times a week and the second one should last just as long since i don't leave it on way to long like I did originally.

Between the 2, I prefer charcoal overall, but almost all of my grilling is done on gas. The ease of using a gas grill trumps charcoal once the novelty wears off. The only time I choose my charcoal grill over my gas grill is when I need a good sear, gas can't touch charcoal for searing.
If you want your grill (or smoker) to last, get a good one. They will cost much more up front but will last decades.
For BBQ (smoking) I always go with wood, pellets are easier, but far more expensive and maintenance intensive after a couple of years.

Charcoal rule number one: Food cooked on a charcoal grill has to be eaten immediately. Saving that food for later causes an aftertaste.

In Asia, we just buy simple charcoal grill stand for like... $5
Or we build a very simple one with bricks and just put grill on top.

grilling during the summer is so frequent and popular in finland, almost everyone owns a grill! We actually grilled today.. and probably tomorrow too.. and then again... and again.. it honestly gets a bit too much sometimes😅

Why is he lucky, just because his dad is a really successful youtuber? Shouldnt you be happy that you even have a family to begin with, it doesnt matter if your dad or mom is a youtuber or something like that. You should be thankful that you have your family and love them with all your heart.

Everyone always says the exact same thing. If you're dad was a popular CZcamsr, vs if your dad worked a more common job, would that be cooler? No it wouldn't, because they'd both be the same person

Personally I like smokers more. You get the control of the gas by being able to change the temp (with our Pitboss aleast) and you get the nice wood taste that charcoal offers, but purer because you use wood pellets. Atleast from what I've noticed. But I do still really love both charcoal and gas. Just get all three Mat haha

  • @FoxFighter-HellBringer

Unless you're my dad who went nuts by getting a monster sized grill. The thing has a propane grill, a charcoal grill, and a smoker. The dang thing intimidates the heck out of me.
But, to stick with the food contest, I can't help but wonder which grill is best for cooking seafood: charcoal or propane?🤔
I'm a pescetarian and I love fish and shrimp. While I generally prefer to sou vide for my fish, I think shrimp is best when on the grill. I'd love it if you could revisit this again for a seafood round. I think it would be interesting to see what the general consensus is for something like shrimp or fish.
