I learned that Billy Kametz was going to be the voice of Torchwick in the dub for Ice Queendom before his unfortunate passing. I wouldâve really liked to hear him as Torchwick but Chris did a good job nonetheless. Rip Billy you will be missed.

The voice feels somewhat monotone than the energetic like tone we were used to from the original RWBY
I love how innocently Ruby asks if she's being robbed then just kicks all of their asses -
This scene is definitely one of my favorites just because of Ruby's behavior throughout starting from this point and onward through the first few episodes
It also shows Rubyâs courage to fight Roman and his guys like she did.

Yeah, Gray always brought something super unique to Torchwood. His delivery was so special that I actually got excited every time he was about to speak because I just had to hear what came out of his mouth next. Not many characters in any show I can say that about.

I like how this anime doesn't have to wait like 7 episodes to hear the word semblance, that was always super weird.
How? It not like it was a big deal. The 1st volume was world building, and character growth. The anime has the benefits of 8 volume and other materials worth of stuff to work from too
@@galonski64 yes, but it's objectively strange to leave out a major part of your world building and explain it after its shown with a whole 2 sentences over halfway through volume 1. There's having a mystery, and then there's just not explaining your power system. Imagine if JoJo Part 3 didn't explain Stands until episode 8, and people were just running around with psychic punching ghosts, and nobody ever acknowledged it. That's basically what RWBY did.
Either way semblances are basically quirks from MHA to put it simply but i agree until volume 2 we see that each character has different powers and it just confuses you
Sure, but I didn't care to hear it in the first five minutes. Made me think Torchwick as Ice Cube from Gamer Gate of SVU
@@ShuraEssays â So Aura was revealed in chapter 6 while Semblance was 14. However, based on everything that happens leading up to Aura, we only see (excluding the Trailers):
- Ruby moves around fast at the Dust shop.
- Yang looks like she is strong when she beats up Ursas and sends one of them flying through trees. She goes Red-eye mode providing hints towards her ability.
- Ruby dashes in front of Weiss and Weiss shoots fire out of her rapier.
Then Pyrrha reveals Aura and defines most of the details surrounding it. She didnât mention that they have an ability called a semblance, but based on everything she mentions, it insinuates that our characters have some form of superpowers. All of this is concluded in about 40 minutes which is like 2 episodes of a standard anime episode length.
So for me personally, I donât find it that strange, but to each their own.
RWBY's been a guilty pleasure of mine for a few years now, so I'm glad to see Crunchyroll's uploading clips of this show, especially the dub.
Finally, the dub is out!
Something to watch before RWBY Volume 9 comes out.
Youâll be waiting a longer time than GTA 6 development hell.

The VA is in their mid 30s and is a mother of two. Hearing their normal voice and comparing it to Ruby's voice is so jarring.

I could cry at how beautiful this is...
Iâm in love, itâs capturing that original magic of Rwby all over again and adding to it by expanding on the ties between man and grim, deviating from the main timeline to do its own thing but utilizing the lore to create stuff that makes sense to happen in the show. The fight choreography and animation is pure magic compounding that feeling, I canât wait for more seasons
Indeed but the fights and some of the goofy bits arent there fully like the original, tbh the fights seem bland to me compared to monty oums original.
@@numatruehome100 well itw mainly the fighting that's bland, but they didn't keep Nora's "I'm queen of castle" part nor did they keep the "oh" when ruby was being robbed

@@brandonchaney9151 those are small potatoes, the feeling and ambiance is still there and the dialogue isnât a complete repeat, they refined quite a bit of what was going on. Rubies interaction with that crook still plays out humorously while keeping the pace and tone of the fight nice and action pact. The feel is the same, the characters consistent, and any little bits that were not included are just little cues that lead into the next line.
@@numatruehome100 Is it really tho? "Are you robbing me?" "Yes." followed by ruby saying "Oh" Is one of the most iconic moments throughout the series. Just like when the food fight happened, they didnt show the best parts of that fight. And when Weiss did her test and got her scar it didnt have the same feel as the original none of the fights do. Tbh its nice seeing ruby in a new light but its very disappointing as a long term fan whose been around since the beginning seeing them cut corners just to add extra story but leave out or hold back the most important parts that made ruby Monty Oums masterpiece.
Still such an iconic line, I had to wait for the dub version to come out, since it's the same VA's, makes it more iconic for me.

not his original actor, Gray Haddock who was removed from the animation department and was fired for not paying HIS workers.
Billy was supposed to voice him, but he.. passed away due to colon cancer.

I like how even though before the a imo came out they already said that the characters will have the same English VAs as in the web series. but people are either still surprised that they're voicing the english version or are still asking is it the same or different people

The original voice actor, Gray Haddock, left RT a few years ago after it was discovered how poorly heâd been managed the animation department (he was the head of it for a time). So that bridge is burned

Yeah, felt a bit emotionless. Early Rwby was charming and this lacked that imo but this looked damn beautiful for the first few episodes and the last 2.
I understand why the replaced Torchwick's original voice actor but I'm not going to lie, he's just not the same. Torchwick's VA was the best on the entire show, the mere delivery of his lines elevated Torchwick from a one note villain into someone who stole the scene every time he was on screen.
Need more RWBY Side-Stories like Ice Queendom. The team did a remarkable job!

i do hope this series gives torchwick an opportunity to be more explored. He was kinda a underused and undervalued villain who was just nonchalantly pushed to the side without really being his own thing, always just a tool to another force. I think he deserves a chance to be a proper villain in his own right
I can't ever see this without hearing Bad to the Bone while Torchwick and his crew are rolling up.
I wish she kept her inflections from the first 2 volumes I feel like it fits her more than her new voice

While I never met Monty Oum personally, I was fascinated to discover that he and I share the same birthday; day, month and year. His dream was to create his own anime. He succeeded so greatly that now it really does have a Japan produced show in its likeness. I wish he couldâve seen it.

I wonder how Torchwick was able to tell Ruby was a girl before she stopped moving. He couldn't of seen her when she was standing by the magazines and when she's moving like that you can't really tell what she looks like at all, or if she is even human. Even if he asked the question after she got out the window, she is fast enough to of done so, he hadn't turned his head enough to see her.

Its still the same anime that the Japanese VA's did. And thats some loopy fairytale about Weiss.
It just goes to show you how brilliant Monty Oum was. Even all these years later, with more animators and a higher animation budget, his original fight scenes were still LEAGUES better. Props on the Japanese animators for trying, but Monty Oum was a legend for a reason.

Maybe I shouldn't have tried watching this in the middle of a full series binge...This scene without "This Will Be the Day" just felt so wrong. A big part of what made early RWBY so special was the music.
