After over fifty years of quilt making I finally stopped around the arrival of Covid. I've always read, had plants, but the isolation of Covid made me want something more. Art journaling led to watercolor, mixed media, and zentangles. I've made around one hundred watercolor bookmarks for my bookclub, friends, and have sold some. I also watercolor a birthday card for each of the seventy women in my neighborhood.

So love this Kristy! Will certainly paint more of my plants. I've wanted to make a notebook with a list of my plants and the care they require along with propagation instructions. A watercolor of each instead of a photo would be a fun addition. ☺️

Kristy, some of the best advice I have seen on CZcams. What you shared is a well-balanced life. There are several things in your life that are good for your mental health and life in general. The act of growing plants is therapeutic, it is digging in the dirt and green is a healing colour. A life of faith in a God who loves us and is the giver of life. I have found that singing praise and worship music is good for the soul and our minds. If you are wondering what to paint go outside in the fresh air and look at all the nature that is around you. You will see in a city block everything there is to paint, buildings, streets, trees, flowers, people etc. I have experienced just the feeling of moving a brush full of water and painting across the paper without painting anything is good for my mind. I guess what I am saying is these are things perhaps you may do for your mental health.

Oh Kristy I TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY agree! One art or craft flows into another and can get those creative vibes flowing. I've done some art or craft all my life - drawing, painting, crochet, spinning, knitting, sewing, decoupage, weaving, reading, watercolours, pastels, ink & wash, movies, card making, scrapbooking, art journaling & journal making, gardening, photography, nature walks, competitive horse riding and I also enjoy looking after my animals. mmm maybe I'm easily distracted or just like to try new things lol. 🦘

You and I have so much in common I started out Life as a professional vocalist at a very young age. Going camping and fishing and riding horses was my joy. Then my grandma taught me to crochet and cross stitch and I found out I love to cook. A few years later I started drawing and oil painting and then life led me away from that. I was stuck in bed so I learned how to knit and quilt especially art quilts using a lot of hand applique with silk thread. In the midst of all that I had become a nurse for the US military. And now my life has led me back to art only now it's drawing and painting with colored pencil as well as acrylic paintings in place of oil, pastels and now watercolor.

I am nuts about nature and color. I haven't had the time to put paint on paper like I've wanted . There are all these ideas in my head but life has a way of detouring me most days. I need to start making time for myself and my creativity. Thank you for your inspiration. You are my paint crush. Much Love to you my creative friend. P.S. I do art in all kinds of different media besides watercolor: acrylic, collage, fabric, beads, yarn, fabric. As I get stymied or frustrated or bored or anxious with one media, I switch. I also write. I also read and research--I'm working on a book about anomalous lights in folklore, history, and modern days. It's a huge project. I also write fiction. I used to love cooking, and that was a creative hobby for me but the pandemic beat that out of me. I still cook, but I don't love it like I did. But I still have a huge food blog that I wrote back in the heyday of food blogging when folks liked to read people's musings on food. Now no one has the patience for that, and just want the recipes. That's ok. I get it. That type of blogging is no longer in fashion. I've been an avid gardener, too.
The point is--being able to switch back and forth and do several things at once, and love them all helps keep one's focus and attention and makes your creative life blossom.

Wanted to send you a hug but that wasn't available. I surely understand stress 24/7. I have retina problems because of it. My way to deal is 1. Deep breathing, 2. Remembering God's love for me, 3. Listing things I'm grateful for. 4. Getting by myself for a few quiet moments to do nothing but breathe and look at nature. Hope something here helps. 🤗

I’ve been there and sure will be again in the future. What I’ve learned is this. Think of what brought you joy in the past. Nothing is too insignificant. Write it down. Maybe it was the way the wind blew in through a window on a warm summer night and how it felt on your skin. Maybe it was glancing at a really colorful produce section at the grocery store. Seriously think of the smallest moments that gave you a little tingle of delight. Start there and seek out more of those moments. The joy will slowly snowball.

About a month ago I missed a couple nights in a row in my studio and then it snow balled I have still painted but not in my studio and now I feel like I’ve betrayed my space and myself for not putting in the practice. All my life has been 1 hyper focus after another, most being art related. Since becoming a mom it’s been a needed escape which has kept me at it for even longer than before.
