Hey at 15 minutes what did you mean he's getting back to doing things for the family and now that he's doing things for the family what did he do for the family?
Wait til you see the sequel. Vito's backstory is what won it an Oscar. To say it was well-deserved is an understatement.
I'm so pumped but am going to wait a short bit. Hopefully I'll be monetized in the next 3-4 months(need 1,000 subs) and be able to get myself a better set up. Just don't have room on my phone.
Thanks for watching thoughđđŒ
@@tomcattvreacts that explains why this video wasn't interrupted with commercials. Good job and good luck!
@@onepcwhiz6847 Thanks alot. I appreciate you watching!
Tom Hagan played by Robert Duvall as the adopted brother was so underrated he even has a bigger role in part 2 ima just leave it at that
Sweet! I really enjoyed his role in this one, even though it was small. He's just a really good actor.
I find it interesting that this video wasn't interrupted once for a CZcams advertisement and that never happens.
Lol, yeah. I'm not monetized yet. Glad you were able to enjoy an ad free version. I'm hoping to get to 1,000 subs by the end of the year.
You miss the point: when the Godfather does you a favor the result is that YOU OWE HIM.
Certainly, 10 fold
It's the ol' barter system. You don't necessarily owe The Godfather money, but perhaps a deed, a favor.
Some small things that help make this story so interesting to me: Michael was not part of the family business, that's the reason he was allowed by Sollozzo to go to that meeting with him. But that meeting and the killings were what made him part of the family business. Sollozzo unwittingly brought about the downfall of all his partners by turning Michael into a gangster. Vito Corleone understood immediately upon hearing of Sonny's death that getting Michael back was the family's only hope. That's why he declared 'no acts of vengeance'. He was already preparing for future acts of vengeance by setting the stage for Michael's safe return. Michael got Apollonia killed. He told Apollonia's father all about himself, using Fabrizzio as the interpreter. Fabrizzio was desperate to go to the US. So Michael gave Fabrizzio the info he needed to make a deal with Michael's enemies. His end was to plant the bomb and he did it but no one knew Apollonia would decide to drive the car.
Whoa! I didn't think about that! That totally makes sense! Now I have to watch the movie again!đ€Łđ
Your comment made me reflect on how thoroughly underestimated Michael Corleone was by family and foes alike right up until he assumed the mantle of Don and even beyond, with lethally disastrous results for his enemies from without AND within. The whole buttoned down college boy act was just a mask he so skillfully wore. Too bad for Solozzo and McClusky they forgot about Michael's wartime record as a highly decorated, wounded marine corp veteran of the Pacific theater. Think Guadalcanal. Guam. Okinawa. Michael would be no stranger to close range mortal combat and targeted assassination. A restaurant shooting would be a piece of cake.
"Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."
Good call. đ
Fun Fact: Lenny Montana (Luca Brasi) was so nervous about working with Marlon Brando that in the first take of their scene together, he flubbed some lines. Director Francis Ford Coppola liked the genuine nervousness and used it in the final cut. The scenes of Luca practicing his speech were added later.
Dark Filmmaking Fact: Cinematographer Gordon Willis earned himself the nickname "The Prince Of Darkness," since his sets were so underlit. Paramount Pictures executives initially thought that the footage was too dark, until persuaded otherwise by Willis and Francis Ford Coppola that it was to emphasize the shadiness of the Corleone family's dealings.
Historical Fact: Most of the cars in the movie have wooden bumpers. Bumpers were removed by car owners during World War II, and replaced with wooden ones. The chrome ones were turned in to help with the war effort. After the war, it took several years for them to be replaced.
I love me some Cannoli!
I also love when directors can use the mistakes or bloopers. Helps it feel real...
The lighting and cinematography is incredible in this movie. Just goes to show what happens when the studio gets out of the way and allows filmmakers to create art.
Thanks for commenting as alwaysđ
You're welcome!
Go in Peace and Walk with God. đ đ
He forgot that!!!!
Another great reaction. I've seen over 20 reactions to "The Godfather" and at least half of the hosts make similar remarks about Enzio the baker seeming suspicious. If you look closely, you'll see Enzio seated next to his father at the wedding when they petitioned Don Corleone to help him remain in America. Michael was seated near the entrance to his father's study. He likely remembered seeing Enzio previously which is why Michael approached him so casually at the hospital.
Thanks, I really enjoyed. I appreciate the incite too, I didn't notice that.
Fun fact, the man who played Luca Brasi was not an actor and was actually a real life enforcer for the Colombo family his real name is Leonardo Passafaro
Dang! I just looked it up, Also a Wrestler! That's all crazy!!!
The guy who played Luca was played by an actual mobster of the times whom the mob put on the movie set as part of the deal with copula to make the movie in thier neighborhood.
That makes total sense, and he totally looks the part. I can't wait to watch the 2nd one when I have the time
My favorite line in this movie is Don Corleone's speech to the gathered nob kingpins about bringing Michael home: "....or if he is struck by a bolt of lightning...then I'm going to blame some of the people in this room." Absolutely chilling.
Well, now you're obligated to watch 'Godfather 2'; it's definitely as good as the first one. 'Godfather 3' I can't recommend; I found it hard to follow.
Yeah, GREAT SPEECH!!! I'm so ready to watch Part 2 but I need a better camera with more room. I'll run out since it's so long.
Thanks for watching!
He meant that shit!
It always surprises me the family thinks Michael is a college boy & can't handle a gun or shoot someone up close. Good Lord, he arrives at the party in uniform wearing 'Two Silver Bars'. He's a Captain in the US Army returning home from WWII. Pretty sure he knows how to shoot. & Knows Strategy/Tactics against an enemy far better than his brothers.
Just shows the lack of respect for his decision to go in to the military I'm the first place. At least that's what I think đ€
And Michael developed, through military leadership and his war experiences, nerves of steel. Notice his hands don't shake when he lights Enzo the Baker's cigarette outside the hospital.
The man who the Don told he might or might not ask for a favor in the future was the undertaker he summons after Santino's murder. The favor that he asked was a thing in the area of the man's capabilities, i.e., to use all his powers to make his son's body presentable for his funeral. The Godfather would not have asked him for a favor that was outside of the man's skill set, such as to kill for him.
That's what made him so likable I think.
Instead of saying "Hey Do this gravely immoral thing for me" He says, "Hey Make sure to work extra hard on this for me."
Such a great character!
That's what a love about the Don. He only asks you to do what you can do. He knew he was and honest man so he wouldn't ask him to commit crimes
You kept saying that Michael was getting back into the family business. Before shooting Sollozo and Mc Cluskey, he had no part at all with the mob scene. The Don never wanted that to be part of Michaelâs life. He went from college to the Marines and that was it.
BTW, Vito is a real name; not a nickname.
âMichaelâs smart. He figured it out.â
But you didnât. Carlo was not killed because he hit Connie. He set Sonny up. The ambush was planned or did you think it was a coincidence that the hit men were at the toll booth?
Yeah. I found it interesting that Vito saw something in Michael, recognized what he was capable of. Also I didn't mean nickname, I meant what it's short for, and someone commented it but I can't remember what it is.
Such a great movie, Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Just saw you edited your comment. I was confused initially because I thought it was obvious that Carlo set Sonny up but nobody did anything about it initially. When I mentioned that he got killed because he was abusive. I was still in Sonny's mind set, because he gave him fair warning to not touch her again or he'd kill him.
Again thanks for commenting and watching buddy
Very nice post notes. Youâve got a very good and interesting Perspective. Thank you.
Thank You! And Thanks for watching!!!
Adrienne and Costanza were played by Francis Ford Coppola's sister Talia Shire. She has two sons who are actors.
Thats so cool! She's a really good performer
Talia's eldest son is Jason Francesco Schwartzman, stars in several Wes Anderson films, his brother Robert Coppola Schwartzman is a musician and filmmaker. Nicolas Cage is their cousin.
Dude.....FANTASTIC reaction. So funny you were nervous! You were plugged into it from the very, very beginning. And the fact that you recognized half the cast....that makes it so much better, for us AND for you. OUTSTANDING edit. Wow. You really kept the spine of the movie, the through-line of the plot. Bravo. I know exactly what's missing...and yet I didn't miss anything, know what I mean? Spot-on post-film analysis. I happen to think the first one is probably the "better" one, but the second one is either just as great or so close it's like splitting hairs. It doesn't have Brando, which is no small thing. But it has young De Niro, which is also no small thing! What's not small is the running time: it's over three hours so a.) make sure you have plenty of room on your phone and b.) feel free to take an intermission! For years, these two movies were the gold standard of sequels. (Then the embarrassingly sub-standard third one came along twenty years later and put a blemish on the reputation!)
Thanks bud, I'm just glad I was able to watch it slightly earlier in the evening instead of at midnight. Thanks for the compliments on the edit, it's hard to know what to leave and what keep in movies that are so incredible.
I can't wait to watch the 2nd one might have to wait till I'm monetized and able to put more into my channel cuz I'm broke. Lol
Still excited though!
I hate when studios can't just leave well enough alone and have a perfectly good movie or sequel they just have to milk it and kill it for everyone.
Thanks again for watching bud
The 3rd film is actually a good film. But comparing it to the 2 greatest movies of all time it fell short. If I did a letter grade the first 2 are A++++++++, part 3 I would give a solid B
@@tomcattvreacts Damn! Keep at it dude, you're a great reactor. I don't understand why some reactors have far less subscribers than some others. I know it takes a long time sometimes, it breaks my heart to see someone like you have to struggle so much. As far as "Godfather 2", maybe film the reaction but don't edit it. That way you don't have to be dying of curiosity. Post it on Patreon for your Patreon subscribers (I, too am broke, otherwise I'd be right there!), and then maybe when you get monetized you can go back and edit it. Or don't even do a reaction to Godfather 2, just watch it and then post your review of it. It's a long frickin' movie! It's great, but you can't be spending your life editing Godfather 2! I'm so, so sorry you're broke. PS: From now on, I'm only going to suggest SHORT movies. I think the classic comedy (and the original "mockumentary") "This Is Spinal Tap" is only an hour and 20 minutes. Maybe switch to a TV series. I've seen the original Star Trek and the original Monty Python series build up entire channels. (Python episodes are only a half hour, Star Treks are an hour). I'm sure you've seen "Breaking Bad" already, but I know that is a popular show that people will subscribe for.
@rxtsec1 that's what I heard about the 3rd movie. So one way or another I will be watching that one too eventually.
@Tic Toc Melody thanks again for the compliments and for watching I really appreciate it.
I'll definitely be watching The Godfather part 2 eventually as it would also really help my channel. I'm think I should gain a lot of subs the next couple of months because of The Godfather, TopGun Maverick, Police Academy and the new Halloween coming out next month.
All those factored in, I hope to be at least over 800 subs by the end of the year. đ€đŒ
I'm making some money from Patreon right now, and hopefully will make more because of those movies as well.
Also yes, I've seen both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. BREAKING BAD IS THE GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME!... that's how I feel about that.
I definitely need to check out all the Monty Python, I've only really seen small clips of those.
All that being said, I'm feeling very optimistic about my channels future.
The Corleone family are not Italians, they are Sicilian, even though both languages are similar but still very different. Michael goes to Sicily. Like Spanish from Spain is very different than Spanish from Mexico, Central America and South America. Back in the 90's I met some women from Spain that were visiting my hometown and I started to speak to them in Spanish, and one of them did not quite understood what I was saying and she got a bit angry with me because the way I was speaking Spanish. I learned from my mom how to speak Spanish, she was from Durango, Mexico which the state of Durango is in the northern part of Mexico. Also some difference from the central and southern parts of Mexico. By the way pretty good reaction to the 1972 film 'The Godfather'. I did see it that year at a theater when I was only 16 and in high school.
Hmmm. That makes sense. So people from Sicily speak a slightly different dialect than the main part of Italy?
That's cool that you got to see it in the theatre. That must've been something
Godfather II is my favorite of the three đŻđŻđŻđŻ
I've heard that from a lot of people. I'm really excited for when I can finally do it!
The sister is Adrian from Rocky. She got the part because her brother happens to be Francis Ford Coppola the director of this movie
REALLY!?!? I had now friggen idea! That's insane!
@@tomcattvreacts lol nepotism runs deep with Coppola. One of the reasons part 3 is criticized is because when Winona Ryder dropped out 2 days before filming was to start he cast his daughter Sophia Coppola & she was bad & hands down the biggest flaw of the movie. I will say Coda cuts some of those scenes out which mostly was a good thing.
@@rxtsec1 Good to Knowđ
She was also a very fine actress, sister of Coppola or not. Nepotism is rife in the industry generally. Talia was wonderful in the role and ultimately that's what counts.

The horse head scene is not a fake prop. They actually used a real horse head. The genius of this movie is how you see the transformation of Michael. The death of his wife in Italy seemed to make him cold and calculating. You see that in GF2. Don Corleone was a total family man. Michael on the other was all business.
Interesting, I can't remember if someone comment about the horse head yet but thats crazy! I'm really excited to watch part 2. Probably after I get a better camera that has the room I need to record

The Godfather movies are classics that get reexamined repeatedly because of the depth of their moral discussion. The first movie sets itself apart from other gangster movies when the audience realizes that the main character has an unusually high level of moral integrity that will be tested over the course of all three movies. He's trying to save his family by preserving the moral standards established by his father while being surrounded by evil/immoral/amoral people. In real life, gangsters don't have the high level of moral integrity seen by Vito and Michael Corleone. A lot of people hated the third movie because it gave a definitive conclusion to the moral discussion on an epic scale. People who hated the third movie couldn't understand why anyone would want to get out of the mafia. Those are the same people who fantasize about a life in crime where they are able to get away with anything.
I know I'll be watching Part 1 more. Such a great movie and I'm really excited to get into part 2 and 3

Fredo wasn't stupid. He was weak. That was the tragedy of his character.
You know, I didn't think about that. Thanks for the analysis
Thatâs a good point. He was capable of being perceptive enough to know he commands no respect and has no leadership skills, but heâs too weak and lacks the discipline and tenacity to make something of himself.
Had he been more thoroughly stupid heâd probably have thought he was a vital part of the family and a leader, and wouldâve been content with his position and not have tried what he did later.

Seconding this, GF1+2 work well as two parts of a whole film.

In your Top 2 Movies of all time?
@@tomcattvreacts It's a very good movie, but not in my top 2. I just saw I would be second to comment.
Oooooohhhh... that makes sense! Lol Thanks!
I and Sean Connery disagree with you, if a woman hits you, she gets a smack right back. If you resort to physical violence like a man, youâll be treated as a man. My wife behaves lady like, even when we fight or argue, physical violence not an option she chooses to resort to, because she is feminine and not a masculine so she gets treated lady like person, violence I donât resort to.
I think that men broadly, because they do tend to be biologically stronger than woman, have more of a responsibility to control themselves. Especially considering men also have a natural aggression that if fostered properly is very beneficial.
Don't get me wrong woman have to learn to control themselves too but, in my mind, it's more important how I behave and that I don't blame someone else for me responding poorly.
My wife and I have never been violent with each other outside of wrestling and that's just us being silly.
Thanks for commenting, it was very thought provoking and I like that.
@@tomcattvreacts agree with you on controlling aspects, thatâs why I said I would smack a woman. I wouldnât resort to full blown punches and curve stomps. A good back hand puts them in line if they get out of line by resorting to physical violence. A woman even if she is weaker still can cause physical damage, more than a child would. But a woman should be mature enough to understand that action being consequences. Not all violence is bad, so responding with a good smack is a good thing. You and I disagree on this, but both our world views are traditional, I understand where you coming from, I disagree with that world view especially at this day and age.
