Burkina Faso Under Ibrahim Traore's rule

  • It has been a year since Captain Ibrahim Traore became the leader of Burkina Faso following a military coup. Upon assuming power, Captain Traore had set a goal of enhancing security and reclaiming control of areas occupied by armed groups in the West African country.
Militant attacks have caused thousands of deaths while more than two million people have been displaced in Burkina Faso since 2015 when the violence spilled over from neighbouring Mali and Niger. Traore had promised to reverse the trend in a few months.
By the end of August 2023, the government announced the successful return of over 190,000 of those displaced to their original communities. But the security situation remains precarious.
Captain Traore himself has said ''we are at war'' referring to the violence. He suggested the insecurity could prevent the country from conducting elections scheduled for next year.
He told journalists on his one year anniversary that the elections were ''not a priority'' and that the was ensuring security to ensure candidates are able to travel across the country to campaign.
Although under the transitional plan he was not expected to contest in the election, he hinted at changing the constitution - which could allow him to stand in the elections.
This is coming amid deteriorating relations between Burkina Faso and its former colonial ruler, France with France. The West African country under Traore's junta expelled French troops in February 2023. The junta is strengthening ties with Russia, a major Western rival.
One major decision taken by Burkina Faso along with neighbouring Mali and Niger - both also led by military rulers - is the signing of a mutual defence pact known as the Alliance of Sahel States as anti-French sentiment grows across the region.
So how has Burkina Faso fared in Traore's first year as leader?

I think Ibrahim Traore is doing a good job. The effort for Burkina Faso to be part of Sahel Security Alliance is itself a very significant indeed.

Elections are not a priority. Let us put Burkina Faso in order first. Reform the education sytem and get rid of French language in schools and colleges and in place use the local Burkinabe language and Kiswahili language for creator communication with the rest of Afrika and the Afrikan diaspora. No more colonial languages in our schools. Remember what Malcolm X said, "Do not allow your kids to be taught by your enemy, Mzungus."

I am Nigerian, and your idea of changing the language is stupid. How will they communicate with other countries using local languages? Local languages can be taught along side english and french.

@@afeni1477I'm Afro Cuban raised in the US and he is right. Speaking a COLONIZER language is mental enslavement everytime you open your mouth. Speaking your oppressors language, you are expressing a conquered subordinate mindset. East Africans speak Swahili. West Africans should pick one AFRICAN language that is a unifying language and make it a national language. The West is the ENEMY. The lack of acceptance of this fact hinders African people 😮

of course, local languages are the key to higher education. Specially Kiswahili, that no one else speaks outside East Africa. Speaking Russian to mercenaries is the right way to freedom.

You guys are obsessed with the french but the only people really oppressing the people of Burkina are corruption and military dictators.
Burkina needs a stable government without corruption not another military dictatorship ruling by decree.

So great Burkina has gone from poor but growing to poor but getting poorer.
Traded France/west as preferred partners/masters for broke Russia is just a very bad business decision.
Traore only achievement is to have kept the salaries of the military high while everyone else is getting poorer.
The most standard African military dictatorship behavior. 😂😂😂
Next guy will do the same and strike Ben worse deals with the west again than again with Russia and so on till africans understand that being ruled by military dictators is not good for anyone's future.

God this, god that, but the question is what does god do? Anything? And is it not time for him/her/it to do SOMETHING? My question, still unanswered, is: which heaven does he/she/it supposedly live in? According to the bible written when there were NO TELESCOPES, there are 7 heavens: the moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn BUT the only habitable one, the earth, is not included in the bible? By the way we have been to the moon, Venus, and Mars and have not seen anything there. By the way which planet is hell in?

So, WHO makes all these MILLIONS of weapons used in third world countries to kill each other? By definition third world countries do not posses the technology and manufacturing required to produce these weapons. So, the next question is WHO is profiteering and benefiting from supplying these weapons?
