  • Kanga-AX24 gets some underdrive and tries some lines. Lots of wipeouts as these lines are pretty difficult to pull off. Going to need to get some new servos cause after a few mins of running like this these like Emax analogs are gettin wicked hot. Mofo Blacks are going to be the choice methinks.

    Underdrive instead of overdirve is a great idea and works great on this rig

      Yea Dirk it works awesome for those rigs u use at slow speeds, cause really its still kinda like making the front an overdrive by slowing down the rear. Should of done this with all my rigs instead of using an overdrive gear.

    The underdrive in the rear is the way to go, I did that with the scythe also, really helps keep it planted. Looks like it can kill any line you throw in front of it.

      Thanks Radio! Underdrive is totally awesome in this thing. Kept it planted down so hard and some of those lines were crazy, going to make a few more lines just for this thing now. But I need a Black Label Mofo Servo, these lil things are good, but it needs more power. The angles it gets too the front wheels are nearly holding all its weight and after a few attempts it heats.

    Saw your vid on the side bar while watching Matt's vid over at 2FMRC. Thought the terrain was concrete, looking at the small thumbnail. Surprise! It's Muppet Skin Mountain!!! LOL!! Gotta say then carpet is is a cool idea and very out of the box thinking!
    Beautiful rig too! Never seen those purple links or that brand before. From amazon or ???
    Thanks! I'll check out your other videos!
    *Edit: Just finished this vid........ You a fellow Canadian by chance? Your accent and manner of speaking sounds like it. LOL! I'm really new to micro crawlers. I'm in BC.

      Hey thanks man! Sure am Canadian, Alberta, over by Calgary :) Yea the whole carpet terrain was something I used to do as a child with Lego and GIJOE in the basement with the carpet we had down there. Was awesome for making all sorts of levels and awesome terrain to play on. Those links are from Amazon. I hadnt seen them either and always wanted a green purple rig, so it was the right choice for this Kanga-AX :)

      @@DurpVonFronzAwesome! I'm on Van. Island. The carpet is brilliant. And lots free stuff to be had. I collected a sh!t ton of regular white Styrofoam last summer. Planning to break/cut it into chunks and coat it with cement a la the boys over at Reactive Terrain. Their course is quite something. I've got an out building that I need to spring clean the junk out of and would like to build an indoor course in. Will keep your carpet idea in mind for the base. Be interesting to do a test piece, form it then trowel on some cement to see how it holds up and how much it takes to completely cover the carpet fibers. Probably need the under structure to be pretty solid so the cement doesn't crack from flexing if it needs to be moved. I was thinking of doing 2x2' plywood or EXP foam base plates so they could be rearranged to mix things up. If I try the carpet and cement, I'll let you know how it goes. (If you haven't tried it already?)
      Gonna binge your channel from the start. I'll leave some comments just to boost the YT algorithm for you. I'll toss a link to your channel to on the YT channels I follow. I think your Muppet Mountain would be a hit!

      @@wingnutbert9685 Thanx man!! I give the ideas away freely, like some of the things reactive does and a few other channels do I kinda steered em in that direction like reactive's 4x4 recovery, taking wheels off a rig and trying to drag/tow it out and a few other things too. :) . SO.. instead of using carpet and then cementing it check this link. czcams.com/video/OM-fYRt2AFE/video.html What you can do is take cement and a blanket, something like a fleece or something a bit heavier then a sheet and soak it in it. If you add a polymer or something to water proof the cement you can add water features without the fear of leakage and be safe indoors. Then depending on the location you can add sand or some other heavier aggregate like a crushed up granite you can get for chickens. Also if you build up a course with w/e under it just to give it shape, could even use 2x4's and old pallets to get the space filled up under it. Then take some aluminum baking sheets/trays and bend em in ways the look like rocks, that way it will hold up the cement blanket and give that rock look once its dries. Been planning the whole cement blanket thing for over 2 years now. I think I can finally do it in the basement here as the old renter moved out and now Ive access to that suite, so going to make a course down there. You can also put down plastic sheets over an existing course and do the cement cloth idea just to copy and move it in sections to w/e u want. Got so many ideas for this stuff its crazy. Like building a course and then having like a railroad or drift course going in and around the crawler course to add a whole other level and engagement to it, not just for crawlers but drifters too.
      One thing too for a course could be something like a plaster of paris, but add something to make it tougher. As the course is kinda drying take real rocks and press them into to it as it will add textures that are legit, and right before its totally set, take a hammer and tap on em to take em out leaving that crazy design behind... So so so many ideas rolling around in my head for these lil rigs. I actually want to open a crawler course shop here where I live. Have a few diff courses that people can rent time to crawl on, benches with tools and parts to sell so they can upgrade em right there and test em out, have snacks and what not to keep em there or have a eating area so they can bring their own food in and chill most the day.. :)

    • @DurpVonFronz
      @DurpVonFronz  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Ive also been pondering the use of magnetic nail polish to paint the rigs with, its unreal how crazy that stuff is. Reminds me of the old low rider style paint or paint jobs on boats. Very kewl. Dont think anyones doing that yet.

    • @wingnutbert9685
      @wingnutbert9685 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks, I'll check out the link. And yeah, been following Reactive since they started. The cement dip cloth is brilliant and cheap as chips. It's the way I have had in my head for the base of the course, so far. But I'm interested in trying the carpet too. With the carpet being available free and heavy duty, might make for good outdoor course building too, if you use polymer mod'd cement (or good old Weld Bond glue) to water proof it. Adding some chopped fiberglass to the cement would also ad a ton of strength! I'm sort of giving myself a "no cost" challenge for building the course, just to have fun seeing what can be done for free or as low cost as possible (granted stuff like cement, etc. is a cost).
      I figured hitting up friends and fam. for old bed sheets, blankets, towels, etc would be a good free source for cloth for cement dipping. Free foam packaging and cardboard for the base. So many folks use plaster. If it's all they can get/afford/work with, fair enough. I just find it looks aweful pretty quick from the plaster cloth showing though and from wearing and chipping. Cement is probably just as easy to get and the same $/lb and just as easy to work with as plaster. But looks way better and is likely cheaper in the long run in terms of durability. If it works out, I might toy with the idea of making some how-to do it free videos. Help out those with low to no budget or experience with tools and/or building. I'm a sculptor/artist (hate saying that out loud....). I'm fortunate to have a welding shop and a wood work shop here, so anything goes in terms of building. And you sound like me with getting a million ideas popping around in your head. I try to keep it in check somewhat or my ADHA will really get out of control in a bad way. That, and my wife would have a fit! LOL! ( another reason to make a course as close to free as possible! LOL!)
      Nice getting the suit space to build in! Also nice to have a local place to gather and run rigs and swap parts. I was thinking if I really get into the hobby longer term and I get some courses built, I might reach out to see if locals want to have weekend friendly coffee and comps.
      I like your idea of using rocks to texture the surface as it sets up. Would work for concrete too. Gives my an idea: Could make a texture board (1x1' or bigger) out of foam, or rock or tin foil. Then spread silicone caulk over it (cheap) or get some Smooth-On pouring silicone for proper mould making (bit more spendy) Let the rubber cure, peel off, and use the textured mat as a way to press in texture. Make some different ones for variety and rotate and overlap them so they don't look repeated.

    Hey bud so did you convert the ax24 into a 1/18 rig ? Anyway awesome nonetheless 🤘🤘
    A parts list wouldn’t go astray😁😎

    • @DurpVonFronz
      @DurpVonFronz  Před 7 měsíci

      I took the Ax24 after many many attempts to try to fix its horrible self lol and made it into a Gladiator length rig, still a 24th scale. And for a parts list, sure thing! :)
      Injora Brass wheels, what ever kinda u like, with or without a negative offset.
      Glad length Links in what ever colour you want.
      Mofo RC Black Label servos with servo mounts. Or Emax servos with RampCrab servo mounts in what ever colour.
      RampCrab steering arm in what ever colour u dig.
      Proline Trenchers tires, I might try out some Baja Pro X with it too so keep options for tires open.
      5mm Hex extensions or wheel weights with the Hex extension built in.
      Furitek Stinger Combo, u get the Micro Komodo motor with the Lizard Pro ESC.
      Kangaroo Chassis from Injora.
      Injora 43 or 48mm shocks in what ever colour u like.
      Injora skidplate in what ever colour u want.
      Injora Gladiator length metal drive shafts.
      A mod I want to do is get better axles for it so it has higher turning angles, some metal ones but not sure what ones just yet, many options on that to pick from. MOFO RC, LGRP, Meus, Injora so many to choose from.
      Gens Ace Adventure 400mah battery cause its nice and skinny and fits into this build extremely well.
      Another thing Ive done is a lead sticky weight mod I put into the wheels around the bead lock ring, it adds around 25g of hidden weight and its awesome for that extra traction.
      I think thats about it, just looking at the thing and I cant see anything else that is here but not on the list.
      Hope this helps you out if your going to make one for yourself. If you dont have the Ax24 yet but want something like this, dont buy the ax, just buy its receiver or something with a 4ws system and avoid it. As right now there are only 3 parts from it in this rig, once I get 2 new axles there will only be the receiver left. So you dont need to spend money on it. Happy building!
      EDIT: Oh yea, and 2 sets of brass steering knuckles of w/e brand u like. :)
