The Bulldogs had a great team during the years surrounding this match but never managed to put it together in a prelim. St Kilda were similar, being around the mark, but at least the Saints made three GFs in a two year period. Shame they weren't good enough to win a flag. At least the Bulldogs went on the win one years later.
I'm back again....if Bud had remained with us he'd have played in a minimum of four flags. Most likely a couple more since the Hawthorn team 2012-2018/9 would've become unstoppable. The 2013-2015 Hawks may have stretched the success. But, he surely would've kicked more goals than Lockett by now continuing to play on the bigger MCG. Would have more AA's, more Coleman's and maybe a Brownlow. He certainly would've hit the ton one more time at least. His desire to play with Goodes, after the 2012 GF, to escape the 'Melbourne football bubble' cost him team ultimate success. Instead, three GF's where the Swans were embarrassed. 2014, 2016 and 2022....they really looked like sub par GF teams. His individual legacy as an AFL/Hawthorn/Sydney Legend is assured but as a 'team player' his results look awful. The 'What if?' always comes to mind.
I disagree. The hawks looked so much more dangerous without him in the side, he's a freak, a star, an incredible player, but he makes going forward predictable. The Hawks were such a brilliant side in 2012-2016 due to tactics, not just individual genius, and Franklin was never one to stick to a game plan. The 2014 and 2015 sides are hands down better off without him in the side. Roughead, Poppy, Breust, Gunston, Rioli, McEvoy, Hale, who do you take off in 2014 for Bud? In 2015 maybe Schoenmakers comes off for him, but IMO he through and through deserved his premiership (and played his best game of his career), and was a far far greater TEAM player than Buddy. I love the champion. The field getting rushed when he kicked 100 was legendary, and the repeat of that when he reached 1000 was just as beautiful to watch. But as a Hawks supporter and a fan of the sport in general, I think he has done more good at Sydney than he had left to do at Hawthorn.
This was peak Buddy
I was hit by a car that day at work, seeing hawthorn win the game and the premiership made my recovery soo much easier.
Go Hawks!!
Tyson John Dawidowski oh shit bro
Thanks guys. Yeah perfectly fine now. Go the mighty hawks
Tyson John Dawidowski you’re still active?
Tyson oh shit bro
It’s tradition to watch this every now and then
Lake might have lost the battle against Buddy in this game, but at the end of the day, he won 3 premierships with the Hawks, Buddy only won two...
Appreciate you uploading this! I never got to see this game just the measly AFL highlights, this is great!
Amazing, thanks for the upload.

Booked my tickets the next day!
This explains why Lake had no fear of him when Buddy went to The Swans .
