In the Universal Century, the newly formed Earth Federation tackled pollution and overpopulation, announcing a massive space colonization program. Over several years, multiple O'Neil cylinders were placed at Lagrangian points in steady orbit. By UC50, over half Earth's population emigrated to the new colonies, known as Sides. A nearby asteroid's orbit was even altered to become a second Moon, Luna II.
But soon, on Side 3, the philosopher Zeon Zum Deikun noticed some settlers, now called Spacenoids, had evolved. These Newtypes gained heightened spatial awareness and mental abilities and Deikun believed Newtypes were proof humanity was destined for space. He taught that Earth was sacred and that Sides should be sovereign nations in a new movement known as Contolism. The Spacenoids, who were treated as second class citizens on Earth, quickly adopted his beliefs, declared Side 3 independent and appointed Deikun their leader. Unfortunately Deikun was killed in mysterious circumstances and his former advisor, Degwin Zabi, conveniently declared himself sovereign of the new Principality of Zeon, secretly killed Deikun's most loyal followers, and appointed his family members to high ranking positions.
The Zeon military mobilized quickly, developing a new weapon, the Mobile Suit, and in UC79 began the One Year War. Both sides lost billions to nuclear and chemical strikes before the Antarctica Treaty banned their use. With their Mobile Suits, the Principality gradually invaded most of Earth, but the Earth Federation had one last hope: The V Project, developing weapon prototypes under engineer Tem Ray on Side 7.
But the Federation carrier White Base, on its way to pick up these prototypes was followed by Zeon forces led by Char Aznable, the Red Comet. When one of his men opens fire on the colony, Char will learn just how powerful the Federation's new RX-78 Gundam is and meet his greatest opponent, Amuro Ray, the teenage Newtype that just jumped in the cockpit.

Aside from mispronouncing several names, this is actually really accurate. A few noticeable exclusions to the lore aside (the colony drop), though you could say that was pushed under the Antartica Treaty bit.
The colony drop is deffinitly the best part
and how is saying that Gundam won the war right in any way? There were many important battles which were lost that had nothing to do with it,not to mention lack of newer models in right quantities ,fighting inside Zeon command itself and treason had much higher consequences....
The colony drop feels like a really big exclusion. I mean 79's opening literally starts with the blast from the drop lighting up the Earth.
You forgot when Zeon dropped side 2, the battle of loum, and the one week war that lead to the one year war...

Basically if The 1 year war is Mecha WW2, the Colony Drop and Loun is the Invasion of Poland and the Spanish Civil War
You do a great job at drawing mobile suits, especially the Zaku.
How good is Amuro in his later years?
He was shooting down ace like they were scrubs.
He defeated Char pretty swiftly 1v1.
He only died because he saved Earth from Axis colony drop.
He also banged different chicks each season
He's a force of nature in a mobile suit by that point. There's a reason why, when he's his CCA era self in crossover games, he's revered as THE legend among legends.
But Char is the best :3
I felt Amuro was pretty low-level on the NewType scale. He didn't "awaken" until he came into contact with Lalah. But combine what little power he did with the sheer force of the RX-78 and he was a real force of nature.
But you're talking about his early years. MasterX is talking about his later years.
I just want someone to tell me how Turn A takes places thousands of years after a convergence of multiple timelines yet G-Reco takes place 500 years after Turn A and a 1000 years after the end of UC. I know Tomino's crazy, but come on.
It is never explained how Turn A fits into the timelines,and it should remain that way. Still the best Tomino written Gundam, even in his own words
@@SantomPh Turn A is the end-game of Gundam timelines. All points converge to Turn A when a great reset occurs wiping out the history completely and starting from scratch.

I thought after victory straight to g reco because turn a is a different timeline not to mention a few easter egg (or was it?) that corrin nander is also from a different timeline because of a split second gundam wing's head show up

At least he pronounced "Char" correctly, instead of throwing in the coarse "ch" like the regular word.
I don't know what makes it so difficult for people to pronounce "Shar", even after hearing the correct pronunciation several times.

Finally a gundam lore
Some aspects of the lore are missing. One, Zeon Deikun's ideology is also an alliance of the sides to replace the Federation and newtypes are basically humanity evolving as a civilization without borders. Two, even Girhen admitted that newtypes were not suppose to be superpowered, but used it as propaganda.
I still think the original
Gundam is one of the best pieces of pop culture media Japan has ever produced,
and is a major, if not the major reason, Japanese pop culture is a major player
in the world today. It was one of the first original anime to gain a large
adult following. Countless creators were inspired to become creators by it.
Countless people became engineers due to Gundam.
Even to this day the story holds up wonderfully.
There are so many themes touched upon and explored in sensible and realistic
manner. Its characters to this day are iconic and Char is an absolute legend of
a character. Even in a head-to-head comparision between Star Wars and Gundam
Star Wars comes off as hopelessly simplistic and juvenile.
Gundam shows scenes like competency not
immediately translating into leadership ability with Mirai struggling to take
over for Bright. Gundam shows what it feels like to become estranged from your
parents due to growing up in completely different circumstances. It has
interesting and unexpected character development like Amuro estranging himself
from Fraw Bow due to his rising esteem and responsibilites. It has a tragic and
interesting Romance in Lalah and Char. Kai and Miharu's story were excellently
directed.
Yeah, everybody knows that the original Gundam was
not the first serious anime or the first one with mature themes, but it
executed so many different ones so wonderfully, with good art, good direction,
iconic voice acting, iconic art.
To this day I still think Gundam is hopelessly
underrated in the West and it's insane to see that for a long time even some of
the mediocre OVAs like Stardust Memory were more popular here
Star Wars haz space wizards with laser swords, it's hard to compete.
But Gundam has Space Brazil Imperium with mechas.
So what if star wars has space wizards? Doesn't make Gundam an uncompetitive player.

I wonder how things would have played along if Ramba Ral was assigned to investigate Operation V instead of Char. The Red Comet played around with White Base wanting to get the scope of their abilities. I see the Blue Star as straight-up killing/capturing them all before they ever made it to Earth.
Ramba was a much worse pilot than Char. Amuro would have just killed him in the first few episodes. The only reason he stood a chance was because he happened to surprise Amuro with his Gouf. But he wouldn't have had that at the start of the series.
You done gouf-ed now.
I feel Char was roughly on equal skill with Ramba Ral. One reason why Char had so much trouble with the Gundam was because its armor was immune to the Zaku II's machine-gun weapon. The Gouf actually had weapons that could pierce its thick hide and that's why the Blue Star nearly killed Amuro those first two battles.

Moral of the story - don't bother to train a professional army - just stuff kids and teens into mechas and they will kick arses of the veteran pilots.
That's not how gundam works actually.
Amuro only survived because the Gundam was so goddamn strong.
Later in the series, when Zeon creates more powerfull suits, Amuro already became a veteran and is now a skilled ass kicker
To the point when the Gundam was holding him back.
He was supposed to receive the new Alex Gundam but it got damaged right before the battle of Solomon and couldn't be delivered in time

As others have pointed out, the video has some serious flaws from a lore perspective, but it gets the main point across and the art is good :)

Actually newtype as a term existed before the psychics in the gundam universe, the quote had nothing to do with what newtypes would become and mainly theorized a new race of humans that are more suited to life in space.

Would've been cool if they mentioned Laplace and Laplace's box, but I guess that would tread on "MSG Unicorn" lore.
They only did a very broad description of the events leading up to the events of the original series, while excluding parts that are covered through other parts of the series (Igloo and The Origin). Though parts of Unicorn take place before MS Gundam, the original series can be watched without any knowledge of that content, and the information that it brings may be needless or even confusing in some areas because of this.

Hilarious that the animation in this video is better than the 0079 anime's actual animation. Especially the suits.
Ahh, Amuro would have several encounters with Char, from working with Char (a.k.a Quattro) in UC0087 to their final encounter during the Second Neo Zeon in 0093. Both Amuro and Char would remain a legend even as far as UC0153.
Been meaning to watch this, y'know now that's it's easier to watch then ever.
