I love the way this is staged and acted. Makes it much more realistic. Actually looks like they’re speaking to each other
I’m in tears listening to this. A great artist, singer, musician. What a perfect technique, a lesson to all the so-called singers of today who have no focus, diction, discipline. Simionato had everything…and she could move us with her sincere involvement in every role she sang. This is a wonderful example of what singing SHOULD be. Thank you, thank you for this!

She was one of the greats in an era of truly great mezzos: Simionato, Stignani, Nicolai, Dominguez, Barbieri, Arkhipova, etc. We certainly don't have true dramatic mezzos like this around anymore.
@@Shahrdad Absolutely, seems like a forgotten art. Simionato was of course from the golden age when teaching the art of opera singing was at its best . Also audiences were much more informed, today they will applaud anything even if it’s way below what was once an expected standard.

I agree they are two of the greatest, let's not forget Verrett, Obraztsova, Baltsa, Bumbry...

The greatest thing Horne has done for Opera was retiring.
Overrated, distasteful, poor technique, horrible nasal emission.
Comparing her with Simionato is like comparing Champagne with Mountain Dew.
The glaring omission here is Ebe Stignani.
