"The Brass Beast Heavy isn't just a sentrygun."
Optimal Brass Beast Heavy strategy: become a symbiotic organism with an engineer.
Honestly I wish valve played more into this, actually seems interesting if the stats incoraged this playstyle
Become mobile sentry
The Brovy is real
“We have *come* for your dispensers”
Raises the 20% damage resistance to be active as soon as you are spun up, not when you are at 50% hp and raises the damage bonus to 25%
If its the Sentry minigun, might as well go full ham on that gimmick
4:03
Now you see, the Brass Beast is designed that instead of you jumping around a corner and shredding, enemies jump around a corner and get shredded.
EXACTLY !!! omg.. It is so stupid when I heard ' oh I can't jump on and rev to kill. This is a bad weapon! ' . Like, as if that was all heavy is about. Try jumping around and shooting in the middle of a real war! Doesn't seem to work right ?
With the brass beast you can't do this, you have to outposition the opponents. And that's how I play it. And I don't even need to use the shotgun in tandem.
I agree the brass beast could be fixed but people play the game so stupidly that I always disagree with their arguments when hear them.
I'm just taking it out my chest bro.
Felipe Tony
the way you say it, it sounds like playing BB heavy has a mental game similar to ct sided counter strike, requiring precise positioning in order to deal damage effectively. I think most heavies are just too stuck in the roots of the meta to enjoy other miniguns that drastically change playstyle, like the Brass Beast and Huo Long Heater.
@@soopcanwastaken yeah. I don't have experience with counter strike, but you're right. I think that positioning is a strategy that is necessary for the heavy with any minigun since he is slow. The brass beast only takes it to the extreme.
So... Like a sentry
Just time the rev exactly when you get around the corner.
Fun fact: in x10 servers you are literally a sentry.
If you can rev it up

brass beast isnt BAD, its just the meta makes it bad since "oh you cant rev around a corner" (despite this CLEARLY being a huge "dont get on my point" weapon)
I’ve jump reved into power class-medic combos and just, won with the brass beast.
Exactly. It's not bad. It's a little underwhelming. I would replace the current Lower Rev up time, and speed reduction, with simple No Overheal or Reduced Overheal. And have the damage resistance be when you're revved up.
Massive, MASSIVE area denial. Shifting you off a point requires a manpower advantage or a sniper/spy instant kill.
@@puppieslovies if i may?
The brass beast itself has an odd spinup time yes but everytime i look at this weapon i cant help but think this is supposed to be a hard plant defense weapon. It reminds me so much of what the original gatling gun (old minigun from 1900's i think.). Once you had it planted you werent moving the damn thing for a while and the rev up time is also accurate in a sense, cause the brass beast is a look from the gatling gun that most older military's used way back then.
Its one of the best weapons in mvm
Ah, the brass beast. I call this thing the sentry buster for a reason. At full rev, you can out-damage and outlast a level 3 in head a on 1 vs 1 fight. Sentry nest set up on top of the bridge on 2fort? Brass beast time.
That's assuming the engineer isn't going to be constantly healing it

I need sfm meme where scout shoots heavy and he starts slowly turn to him with concrete sounds
he was shredded before his nervous system could even register the pain from having 30 large caliber bullets inside his chest
Ironically, The Brass Beast is considered to be really good in Mann v Machine. And I've seen some Heavies in other modes use The Brass Beast effectively.
i mean you dont really need to move too much in mvm, as the heavy you will either be frontlines with the medic or back up near the engine's dispenser, the movement speed downsides aren't as crippling in mvm as it is in normal game. you also get 20% more dmg which is very useful
@@joshgab7827 Yup. The Natascha is also much more effective in Mann v Machine, because of the same reasons. It's a question of whether you want to deal more damage, or slow down the enemies. Both can work in normal TF2, but they're mostly good for defensive situations where you don't plan to move or push. For offense, the stock mini-gun or the Tomislav works better.
@@JCBro-yg8vd now the thing is if you have extra, and I mean EXTRA cash you can get knockback rage. If you learn to use this correctly thats a bunch of help against uber medics

Personally I feel like they should give the beast an accuracy bonus. Make you a real sentry and be able to actually hit enemies at long range to make up for you practically being practically glued to your spot.
Yes it kinda rips off the tomislav, but it has so many unique traits that I don't think it could hurt to lose one.
That sounds like a good idea for a buff.
I think it's a terrible idea, buffs should either increase a weapon's punishment to the player for playing too foolishly, or decrease a weapon's punishment to it's player depending on whether the weapon is too op or not, that way the weapon's intended play style is intact whilst being more fair than in it's previous iteration. (RiP baby face blaster)
Your accuracy buff doesn't answer the weapon's real problem, which is the fact that it's too bloody slow, I'd say instead of buffing it's accuracy we buff it's rev speed.
I kinda disagree I think the tomi should have be the accurate minigun and the trash beast’s damage up already compensates for long range

On a last-point hold, it's great to mention that the Dalokohs Bar pairs amazing with this. It brings the half health resistance to 175 whilst using it, and you're basically invulnerable while being healed by a level 3 dispenser or a medic.
This is mostly true, but the Dalohks Bar doesn’t stack with Medic’s overheal.
@@Spanishdog17 Overheal doesn't exceed 450, but what he's saying is the damage resistance kicks in sooner due to the increased max health. You're resisting more frequently!
@@Spanishdog17 IIRC Dalokohs Buff Stacks with QF Overheal but not Medigun Overheal
Brass beast is unironically my favorite minigum
Being a tank heavy with the dalakos or having a good flank with this fucker is amazing
Amazing for heavies main job which is being a defensive tank
All this thing needs is like more resistance and maybe a knock back resistance buff
One of my friends also suggested crit resistance under 50% health
It’s broken
+20% accuracy would be good
@@Breakaway-ic5gj No, actually I think giving it a -20% accuracy and removing the damage bonus for a +50% firing speed bonus would be better, so it becomes more of a reverse Tomislav than it already is.
@@manologamerss5801 Than it wouldn't do shit at long range and not be fast enough to get close to anyone at close range
@@Breakaway-ic5gj Would it though? Would it? A 50% firing rate bonus is hefty, and with only a 20% dps bonus the Brass Beast already outdamages the Tomislav at mid to long ranges, so it's not that bad, but when it comes to Giants it would be brutal. 50% higher DPS than stock would get just ridiculous.
Brass beast is the quintessential weapon of choice for the “Heavy-On-Kart” meta. Back when it had a 20% resistance regardless of health on it, made Kritzkrieg pockets a terror to deal with.
Exactly !
Why'd they nerf that?
@@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworth No idea. I'll go through some math and decide on an answer afterwards (This very quickly became a long-winded comment brainstorming how effective a Brass Beast Heavy would be before the nerf, so apologies for the length).
Not Brass Beast:
300 (no bonuses)
350 (Dalokohs bar)
450 (max overheal)
Post nerf Brass Beast
337 (150 x 1.2 = 180, 180 + 150 = 330, ignoring excess damage)
385 (175 x 1.2 = 210, 210 + 175 = 385, ignoring excess damage)
495 (225 x 1.2 = 270, 270 + 225 = 495, ignoring excess damage and healing)
Pre nerf Brass Beast
360 (300 x 1.2 = 360)
420 (350 x 1.2 = 420)
540 (450 x 1.2 =540)
Obviously, pre nerf Brass Beast actually got really fucking beefy, but combined with healing his beefiness reaches new heights. Because damage resistance makes existing health count for more instead of adding more health, healing counts for more as well. A level 3 dispenser provides 20 health per second, but since the Brass Beast makes each hit point count for 1.2 instead of 1, he actually gets 24 health per second. Healing from a Medic during combat counts for 28.8 instead of 24. Put more simply, on top of having an effective 20% more health, he has an effective 20% increased health regeneration, so long as damage is taken while he is revved up.
Lets compare a Not Brass Beast Heavy (NBBH) with a pocket medic and full overcharge vs a Brass Beast Heavy (BBH) with pocket medic and full overcharge in a 5 second duel.
NBBH 450 + 24 x 5 =570
BBH 540 + 28.8 x 5 = 684
As can be seen here, an overcharge BBH with 5 seconds of healing demolishes the poor overcharge NBBH with 5 seconds of healing, holding a 114 health advantage. In fact, an overcharge BBH has 18 more effective health than an overcharged NBBH with 3 seconds of healing time (450 + 24 x 3 = 522).
Moving on to how effective the BBH would be against the common threat.
The BBH getting 60 increased health already allows a BBH to survive 3 pipes and 3 Scout max ramp-up meatshots, so it is already quite tough. However, the Dalokohs bar makes things interesting.
Overall, the pre nerf Dalokohs BBH (DBBH) ends up in a very awkward health position such that they are nearly impossible to kill 1v1. 420 effective health means that 4 consecutive pipes will fail to kill a DBBH (20 health left), 4 consecutive rockets require max damage ramp up to kill a DBBH (without ramp up DBBH will have 60 health left), a Scout requires 4 max ramp-up meatshots to put down a DBBH (damage is exact, so if one pellet misses the Scout needs an extra shot). DBBH will survive 3 base damage sticky bombs with 60 health to spare, while an Overcharged BBH (OBBH) will survive 4 with 60 health to spare. An OBBH can tank 4 Direct Hit rockets (without damage ramp up OBBH will have 108 health left), and with any amount of healing the OBBH will survive a 5th. An OBBH can survive 5 scattergun max ramp-up meatshots with 15 health to spare. Not even a Sniper is 100% effective anymore, since a DBBH can tank 2 quickscope headshots with 60 health to spare, and can tank a third if they hide to Dalokohs heal, while an OBBH can survive even a Machina headshot if they have full health. Random crits and backstabs are the only thing seriously threatening a BBH in a 1v1 environment anymore.
After considering all of this, I guess can understand the change. A DBBH with up to 342 DPS at mid range and up to 618 DPS at close range without any healing support is getting a little too hard to dislodge (420 effective health + 120 effective Dalokohs bar healing every 9 seconds), while an OBBH is almost unfair (540 health effective + 28.8 effective H/S + 240/360 effective burst healing every 10/30 seconds). Direct attacks on a DBBH are impossible for anything but a really good Scout or another Heavy, and while dislodging one is a little easier if you use corners to your advantage, it is still a needlessly time consuming and difficult prospect. In team fights he's a little more vulnerable, but the DPS a BBH brings combined with how much effort is required to remove him alone gives a decisive advantage to the team that has him (Spies could work wonders, but with a good Pyro that tactic isn't reliable).
Of course, I could be wrong. But this is where the math has brought me.
@@notalive5479
You are on the money; Brass Beast was nerfed to have the more restricted damage resistance because, as it was before, you could tank sniper shots and overall fucktons of damage if anything was actively healing you, especially if you had an ammo source (like a nearby crate or a dispenser/payload cart). You basically became a super sentry that didn't need to be actively repaired or reloaded that was able to move & accomplish objectives, demanding multiple enemies focus you down (making them vulnerable to everyone else on your team).

I use it with the Dalokos bar and the Bread Bite (GRU). Dalokos makes up for some of the gru health drain and gives you the 20% damage resistance at higher health. You use both to move to and get set up at each new ambush location. Frontier is a great map for that.
And also when low health, and chocolate is not enough, you can run for health faster with the gru. Personally i like using kgb. (No joke i like using it with brass beast and chocolate.

I literally can stomp a heavy medic or lvl 3 sentry being repaired or wrangled using just the brass beast from the sheer damage it outputs. Imo its important to run with a shotty to make up for the slow spinup in close quarters and isnt always the best for offense due to your slow speed and its not great for long ranged damage but long range crits usually do the job on light classes thinking their out of range (random crits or kritzktieg ofc).

I actually really like the chocolate bar with the Brass Beast. If you're really hunkered down on defense the chocolate can give you more of a buffer against spam, especially since the damage resistance comes into play faster. You can actually survive a headshot with the BB and the chocolate unless the shot is flat out 100% charged. Eating chocolate in the corner can also compensate for not having healing on-hand, since it'll be faster than respawning.
Y’all just aren’t ready for the disciplinary action brass beast team up, add the conch and you’re laughing
So i tried this out yesterday. The Beast, the family business and the fists of steel. It worked out quite well! Being able to choose exactly when and where you use the brass beast instead of relying solely on it works wonders!
I have always been a brass beast main and I totally agree with zhis video, but I must say zhat zhe holiday punch and dalokohs work well too. ANY lunchbox item along side brass beast allows you to not just be zhe sentry, but also zhe dispenser. And zhe holiday punch is one of if not zhe most powerful melee weapon for heavy. It allows you to stun enemies, EVEN WHEN ZHEY'RE UBERED, allowing you to even counter ubered heavies as you'll waste zheir uber, have plenty of time to rev up, and also have zhe advantage of zhe dalokohs where you can have more health zhan a stock heavy. Zhis is more of zhe defensive playstyle you mentioned. However zhis is an AMAZING offensive alternative if I do say so myself.
I've stopped enemy pushes with a suicide laugh punch on the medic or his healing target
Its funny
As a former scout main, I cannot agree more as I can make more use of my map knowledge for melee.
Oksana is my favorite minigun
Hey wait a minute.. medic cant use miniguns!
My favorite thing about this series is that many of the weapons aren't even terrible, they are just niche and need that niche pointed out.
The Brass Beast is the prime example of Heavy working well as a centerpiece player on a team, if you've got teammates willing to support you and keep the Snipers and Spies off your back, it takes away the biggest problem and increases your ability to be absolutely devastating
The nice thing about standing next to a dispenser is you get infinite ammo, meaning you can constantly spycheck the area at long range
9:48 *B R A I N S*
6:15 Oh yes, they are, and very vocally so. And I think we know which archbishop we can thank for that...
I've found that it is extremely effective to just sit on top of the cart on attac. It completely negates the movement downside and you can just stay revved up so that's negated too. You get infinite ammo and it works as long as you can stay on the cart. When the enemy team takes the cart however, you should switch to any other minigun.
This is a wonderful video and I really enjoyed it! The background music is carefully placed and really fits in, good job.
There was a part where you talked about a certain scenario in dustbowl, but the clip shown was in a completely different map and conditions. In the future try to put clips that explain the audio! :)
I think a simple accuracy buff like that of the Tomislav would make it better for the playstyle the weapon seems to be designed for. Also fits with the theme of the weapon
Given how much Big Joey has a shotgun fetish and is desperate for the Heavy to have a reason to use shotguns without memeing fat scout, I'm surprised he didn't think of this.
At a glance the boot & the ant analogy works pretty well for this. The brass beast is already really good at defense and survivability, adding the sandwich to that is just making a boot even bigger for killing the ant. The boot doesn't need to be that big it just needs to get the job done.
It’s funny coming back to this, because I think the Dalokohs has a bit of a say in here. The 50 health gives an extra buffer zone during the rev-up. While not a ton, it still gives that little bit of extra bulk, and even ups the half-health point to 175. It also really ramps-up the FoS resistances.
I honestly think this is one of the best weapons of the bad weapon academy

I genuinely thought that video would be lost to time, but I'm so glad people still remember it.
I'll never forget my contact lenses arriving.
Something else of note: The Brass Beast really benefits from teammate coordination. If you can get warning that people are heading your way without needing to have LOS, the rev-up time issue is much less of a concern. The enemy coming around a corner into a revved up brass beast is going to result in not much of a team very quickly.

The brass beast is surprisingly good, especially on defense or in MvM. It's good for defending last points in control points or attack defense. Combine it with a shotgun or the Dalokohs Bar, the Fists of Steel, a medic, a level 3, and a dispenser, it's one of the best defenses I've seen in my thousand hours of play.
Okay so... totally unrelated to the video as a whole, but watching your videos always hits me with a fat slap of nostalgia because of the Pokémon music you use, honestly, I'm amazed more people don't use Pokémon music because it *universally* slaps, without being too distracting if you put it on in the background.

Idea to Fix the Beast:
Introduce recoil to propel the Heavy backwards (like on eg. the Force-a-Nature). Calibrate this so that the Heavy's backward speed from the recoil (when not holding W or other keys) is about half the walk speed when revved up with a Stock Minigun.
This would make the gun itself into a sort of mobility tool to counterbalance the crazy rev up time and slowdown when revved. You can achieve the Heavy's normal walk speed, but only when shooting directly away from the direction you want to go. This will force the Player to be really choosy about when, where, and at what they fire the thing, but with practice can use the extra mobility from the recoil to get in and out of situations as though they were walking with a regular Minigun. Naturally it'd still favor defensive positions, where say Heavy's back is against a wall or where retreating is more important than advancing, and make jump-revving and the like still a pain. Hopefully, though, it'd make the trade for increased damage at least more fair; what do you think?

The Choco Bar
FOS
The Choco Bar does pair really well. It increase the amount of health the damage mitigation while spun up applies to so you are actually getting a little more bang for your buck with that stat. But even though it works I just can't play heavy with any lunch box item anymore. Its just too boring. Adding a shotgun just ups the entertainment value of heavy so much. Especially when combined with the brass beast. The joy of hunting down demos with the shotgun and them acting suprised because they thought you were a sitting duck with the BB is just priceless.
Thats like the russian sentry loudot
this game hasn't been updated in so long that people are trying to make use of the bad weapons that need attention from the dev team. we have soundsmith's beggar's bazooka video, now this, also i see the classic in my recommendations, and i myself even started using the vaccinator instead of the stock medi gun
Are you for real saying the Beggar's is a bad weapon?
> implying the Beggar's is bad
@@miky9504 see, now it's not considered trash
Even after the nerf some time ago the beggars is still borderline broken, as some one who's been using it since it came out, and roughly 14k TF2 hours under my belt, I can safely tell you it's in a good place.
My advice to you... don't believe everything you here on a CZcams channel, just because someone has youtube following doesn't automatically make them good, or an expert.
The nostalgia of the pokemon emerald OST, awesome video
And a very Happy Valentines Day to you Sunny!...another wonderful and spectacular animation ACLP!!!
Honestly the shotgun strategy works decent with the normal minigun. I'm pretty sure sure your "Brass Beast secret strategy" is literally how a full stock heavy is supposed to be played too. Sure the minigun is great but a shotgun is a shotgun. If you get caught with your pants down as a heavy having the shotgun out for a quick reflex shot is usually better then waiting for the minigun to rev up. The shotgun might be completely overshadowed by the minigun in terms of raw power but the shotgun is still a shotgun.
Personally i belive The Brass Beast is great (in my experience) for King Of The Hill, especially ones like Harvest that have an enclosed, small space to rev up your BB.
This vid made me smile way more than I was expecting
Making it so the damage resistance is ALWAYS active, so long as your revved would be a good buff in my eyes.
☑ giorno's theme
☑ Jojo's reference
☑ cart defending
*I like.*
I just watched this again, and I was thinking, "what if the extra reduced speed only applied when firing?". Like you still go normal minigun heavy speed when revved up but when you actually shoot then your speed gets reduced even further to the current brass beast speed and maybe for a quarter second after letting go of the trigger so players can't just single click over and over to negate it.
That wouldn't be a bad change for the weapon. Hell, considering the weapon does more damage than stock, the slowdown in speed while firing would give the sense that the weapon's recoil is slowing you down.
bro thanks for this, i got so much use of the brass beast
You really out here with this quality and 6k subs what a world
2:05
... well if i don't feel called out
though i'll keep using the brass beast without fear of the enemy escaping because i only use heavy to kill myg0t bots
I tend to use sniper on heavy bots.
I love when I’m on engineer and I have a heavy in my dispenser. It helps me keep my building safe to help my team
Title:bad weapon acadamy
Also Fish on a stick:litteriky shows that its goid af
im glad im not the only one whose figured the shotgun trick out. the brass beast and the family business are my go tos as heavy.
You should do the claidheamh mòr for demo knight. I know its sort of reverted but that 15% still hurts
Learn to use it
If you flank right I think it should be better
Hey man! I want to start editing my TF2 clips! What editing software do you use?
yea
I personally recommend premiere pro, has a lot of features and it isn't known for crashing like Vegas, also comes with a lot of tutorials
Did Fish just recommend my 2nd favourite heavy loadout? Nice.
I think adding a damage buildup, the longer you're revved up (with a max of 20% after 10 seconds. Or a damage meter like the banners could work too), would do good for the weapon, and removing the slowdown would balance this since you'd need to stay slowed down (and revved up) to get the full damage boost anyway.
