  • I did this video a few months ago but with the live I haven't published it. it a piece of old conifer wood from some trees i cut down in the garden. i haven't ever turned conifer wood so thought it would be interesting. it was still very green when i turned it so i shelved it for a few months till I had dried out, to be honest it turn out pretty good for an old but of conifer.
    Hope you enjoy.

Thanks for sharing this. Like you, I too have some conifer that I cut down ~1-1/2 years ago (from my parents property) that I have been thinking of doing something similar. This helps me to realize I may get something very nice from it.

That looks really lovely. Quite simple but elegant. Sometimes less is more. Should be able to join in with the lives again this week as the family have now gone back home. 3 weeks is really quite a long time..... :) :)

Hi Steve, Lovely little bowl. I have some Leylandi pieces in my wood store which we cut down about 5 to 6 years ago. Similar to you most has been used on a fire but perhaps I'll give some a go on my lathe to see what comes out. Take care Steve. Cheers, Huw

So you called it poplar, a deciduous tree and you called it a conifer so do you know now that you’ve turned it which one it is. My curious nature is getting the best of me. Beautiful bowl, great finish!

We call it conifer but I think it’s one of these Italian Cypress, Monterey Cypress, Smooth Arizona Cypress.

Yes i did. In the video's I called it Cedar; I think that's what the American call this?
Over here it is called 'Conifeer' and it is very common in hedges and such. Two video's:
    czcams.com/video/ZyThvQM2OGo/video.html and czcams.com/video/9GtadHRFBJo/video.html .
The bowls you get from it are very light and have a beautiful grain.
I still have some lying ready to cut up. Might do that shortly.
    Thnx for sharing!
