Dude love this video, really helpful. Love to see an episode 2.
Good video, i enjoyed it. Nice to see other people playing similiar to me, keep it up :)
the good old days :3
@Sakrra03
For this video, I made a special effort to film the entire thing with no macros or addons enabled. Its all the default User Interface.
The extra action bars and numbers over the keys are my custom keybindings done in the standard Blizzard UI options menu (press escape).
If you're using a non-wide monitor and want to see the silver griffins on the sides of the action bar; go to the video options menu and use the "UI Scale" option to shrink the UI.
Undeads also give a 20% haste buff for 10 seconds, which is extremely good to pop with Icy Veins and other haste cooldowns when using a shattercombo, sometimes I manage to fit 3 frostbolts into 1 shatter if I have range and get to nuke.
The alliance trainer pretty much gives off the vibe you get from every alliance player in BG's.
"Dumas".
Nice one, skill ftw ; )
@dvineFlavor
For Leveling add Evocate and Mana Gem (in that order as the slots open).
Once you hit level 80, it depends on what you want to do.
For Battlegrounds/dailies/solo play go for Evocate, Water Elemental and Ice Barrier.
For Dungeons/Raids go for Enduring Water, Molten Armor and Ice Lance. (Frostbolt instead of Ice Lance is another option for max raid DPS).
Arena is a matter of preference, I'm running Icy Veins, Ice Barrier and Polymorph atm for PMR 3s and 2345 5s.

cool, played a mage forever and learnt a few new things, what a noob ive been! xD gj
@Magicalprodigy
it's a skill:when you cast frost bolt and get a critical,you can get a instant cast fireball
haha your a smart mage
ive been tryin to get better at playin a mage also and once i get my acc back up ill have to try some of the tips and tricks you showed and thanks for the vid Very well done
this was a really great mage vid
omg the song is as perfect as the guide!!!
Great videa please make another one
now thats a mage guide!
the other 24 ppl r playing runescape xD
When you instant cast fireball, i have always heard to instant cast frostfire bolt. it usually crits harder than fireball, at least for me it does. most mage guides dont mention a secret i found out, the reason why is its cause it is a little secret, but if you want to slow down a target but dont have enough time to cast a regular frost bolt, use rank 1 which cast really fast. so you can slow a target really fast from far away which has saved my ass alot in arena cast rank one and switchtargets
Awesome fork dude
Thanks.
nice job with this video realy good instructions how to use an ice mage
i am a fire/arcane mage myself
Best Wotlk Frost mage guide on youtube!
@HeyHeyLoveSWEDEN
Its a talent in the frost tree. Each time you cast a frostbolt or a cone of cold you're granted a 15% chance to gain a buff called "Fingers of Frost" with two charges. The buff reads "The targets of your next to spells are considered to be frozen" or something close to that. Its a way to activate teh shatter talent without frost novaing a mob. I means for example that you can just shoot an ice lance or a deep freeze at anyone, even if they are not in a frost nova.
@crazyCIAhitman
When I made the video Brain Freeze only worked with fireball. If the target is frozen or you have fingers of frost or if you want to slow the target, Brain Freeze a frostfirebolt. If you don't have FoF and the target isn't frozen, Fireball will still average to more damage though.
I really liked this video. I know most of these tips already, but the third Ice Lance with the Haste buff was a new one for me.
Suspected it was a range/flight time issue. Anyway, good stuff!
Good vid!Ty is very useful!
Good video, can't wait for the next one, this is helping me alot, just shows how op frost spec can be in lvling and pvp.
Also any tips about gear for gold grinding/pvp? thanks
@jonsie710
I deliberately filmed this video in old/poor/no gear at all. You don't need gear to do what I do in this video.
As an example, take the gear I'm wearing when I demonstrate kiting, that's full Brutal Gladiator gear. It was great stuff -- at level 70. At level 80, however, its pretty lousy.
If you want to see DPS, you could check out my Sindragosa video, I peak around 13,500 DPS in that one (still not all that high, but very respectable). Put it on HD 720P and you can see DPS metr
Nice vid
Oh yea, sorry. Was abit tired when posting.
@RockoutCH
For leveling I'd get Evocation when you get to level 20 and your first slot opens and then Mana gem when your second slot opens.
For level 80 heroics I'd get Water Elemental, Molten Armor and Mana Gem/Ice Lance.
For level 80 raids I'd get Eternal Water, Molten Armor and Frostbolt/Ice Lance.
Note that Glyph of Eternal Water (not to be confused with Glyph of Improved Water Elemental) is a relatively new glyph. It makes your Water Elemental Permanent but removes the Freeze Ability.
Amazing video, thanks for posting! 5*
sooo where are the other episodes? are you planing to make more? this video is great and i'd like to see more of them! =D
thanks for the help!
This was amazing. Make another video please! If you're running out of ideas then you can have it focused on like PvP, teaching players how to 2v1. Or how to defeat 1v x amount of mobs. Or a dueling guide of some sort. Or how to fake cast. Like the basics you know, like this video. Thanks a lot.!
@Magicalprodigy
There is a talent in the frost tree called "Brain Freeze" it gives you a 15% chance per damage spell with a "chilling effect" to get an instant fireball. CoC, Imp Blizzard Frostfirebolt and Frostbolt all count as offensive spells from chill effects (it won't proc off frost armor like Fingers of Frost does though).
Nice vid man
@MaltheF
Reduced CD on fireblast + impact stuns from fireblast + extra crit for fireblast and CoC + ignited fireballs/fireblasts added into shatter combos.
Use your imagination of for the extended damage combos you could line up with deep freeze, impact, fingers of frost, brain freeze, and frostbite all with ignited fireblasts and fireballs (cast only when you proc brain freeze of course). You'll be able to wreck most mobs of equal level without them doing anything to you.
THX SO MUCH MAN ! it really helps
@MacucaBlaBlaz
Everything in this video is 100% default Blizzard. I turned off all addons when I filmed it. If you have a non-widescreen monitor you have to go to the video options menu, check "Use UI scale" and move the slider bar right to make the bar smaller (at this point you'll be able to see the Griffins, which I assume are what you thought looked different about my bars).
nice vid. also helpful...)
awsome......more!!!!!!!! continue with the other tutorials....maybe vs warrior....because i hate it whn thy spell reflect.....:(
nice vid...keep up the gud work!!!!! XD
All the tricks in this video still work as they are outlined. The patch changed when the Finger of Frost buff is activated (when you cast instead of when the spell lands) however, the tricks in the video will still work as they take advantage of lag to get an extra spell cast with FOF before the buff goes away.
The tricks all work, just as outlined even after the 3.3.0.1159 revision (current as of January 2, 2010).
heyy lol wuddup man! love ur video, it helped me with my mage quite a bit lol but ay tell me if the following is correct:
(PVP)
Glyphs - Glyph of Water Elemental (30 sec cd reduction)//Glyph of Evocation (regens 60% of health aswell as mana)// Glyph of Ice Barrier (30% more absorption)
@Drake2005WoW
It sure does, watch it in high definition and you can see the COC snare debuff go up every time (near the end of the video I even highlight it). I cut it extremely close to steal those extra few milliseconds to get further away from the target.
Great job there kaligon.
the only thing i dont understadn is why u would set talents in the fire tree (the ignite talent) i mena it isnt that many fire spells we would use?
very good tutorial
...keep the videos comin bro...im lvlin a mage with Recruit a Friend and ummm...im about to PWN with these tips lol
i would not agree with your builds , but everyone's play style is different.Nice guide XD
muy buen video, se agradece
love the video, taught me everything there is to know
@jstaley02 Yeah actually your right. You could use more spell pen, the case is rare though. Nobody does enchants that provide resists to frost usually, but if you encounter someone who does have it, you need quiet a bit more. 130 is just the recommended amount, with 120 being on the lower side, and 140 on the higher side.
i really liked this video.... keep up good work
@Cypekjam94
In this video all my CoCs hit the targets (even when it doesn't look like they do), if you watch it in 720P or DL it from the link on my Blog you can clearly see the CoC Debuff go up every time I use it.
The CoC debuff goes up the instant you hit the target, but the animation takes ~3-5 frames (rough guess) to play so it doesn't always look like it hits. It takes some practice, but keep tryin and you'll get it down :)
Well Done, dude. But it's a pity when shatter combo doesn't work because of high ping.( Keep doing your thing. 5 stars.
Cool....
TY for this m8 just made a mage gonna help alot gr8 video xD
good videos ty for the tips:P
@forreal23
When I made the video, you couldn't cast frostfirebolt with brain freeze. Now it depends on your crit rate. Fireballs will still hit harder, frostfirebolts will crit harder. If the target is frozen or you have FoF up cast FFB, otherwise fireball is probably slightly better for most people (unless you want the FFB snare).
nice tutoril andi was though why i use my frosbite talent only 15% thx for tips
makes me wana play my mage again =') 5/5 bravo!
Thanks for making the vid! will be looking for number 2. is it out yet?
i got some nice tips on kiting and the shatter combo tips were really useful.
i was also wondering how high my mage would be critting basically right when i got it to 80. the part where you killed that thing with no gear on helped. you were getting 4k crits with frostbolt and 3k with icelance and you didnt have any gear on.
thats hitting harder than my balance druid and hes in half blues half epics.
Beautiful video. I have a latency of 500+.... enough said.
Great very!.. I've been playing this game for some time now.. however never a mage.
Man, I wish you could have your pet fight like Everquest, Mages were awesome in EQ.
@zilent213
Well, you could skip it if you want, however, the mana regen component is very helpful for leveling. Also idk if I would use the WE glyph for leveling, you want to be able to cast those freezes to get shatters.
this is great, thanks!!
@Unstability9 The Music is a Zelda remix of the song "tal tal heights" youtube "Tal tal heights Zelda music" or something and you should be able to find it. "tal" with only 1 'L'
Oooh I remember that on my first mage I put all my talents on fire.Oh the good days.
Hi Ka1igon, I really like that video, good job
Now, I have 3 questions
1 : wich glyph I need for PvE?
2 : what's the title of the music (banjo's funny x] )
3 : when r u going to do a second video trick? =D
(sry for my bad english)
U ROCK DUDE !!
Dang you sure do know your mages, could you a guide like this for a pally, or a rogue ?
OMG this is Awesome ... Great Job and very nice editing ... The only question is; where's part 2?
gnomes gives int, humans give spirit, Draenei gives gift of naaru (pretty sweet).
the only good horde right now is ofc blood elf, the sudently mana regen is a big deal (trolls can take a few more hits but thats not the biggest deal for mages)
Its not a dagger, its a Sword. The original version is "Wraithblade" from 40 man level 60 Naxx which is no longer in the game.
However, they re-used the weapon model in level 70 Naxx, I can't remember what its called now.
I went frost and arcane. Frost all the way to deepfreeze and i only took arcane so my counterspell could silence.
@wnswns112
Like Jarvkm said, it increases your critical strike chance by 50% for all spells when you cast on targets that are frozen. Frost nova, Water elemental Freeze spell, and frostbite procs freeze the target. While the target is frozen, they'll have a little ice graphic around their feet.
Fingers of Frost can also be used for shatter combos it reads "your target is considered frozen for the next two spells you cast." Read the talents carefully, you should be able to figure it out :)
wow you are good
@TheExtremeAndreas They don't need to drink nearly as much as they use to. Yeah they will drink more then other classes (more so at lower levels) but thats why they can make free food/water :)
@frankalaka
You want at least 80 spell pen for PvP, you could go as high as 120 if you wanted but higher than that is really only going to help for attacking warlock pets, mages with mage armor, or Paladins?Shammys who use frost aura/totem. Penn is not very important in PvE, or for leveling.
love the vid it helped me alot...
Im thinking of making a mage but it seems like they take more skill than a rogue. Mages do own if you know how to use them. Im gonna try it out. This gonna be my first mage.
Thanks a bunch bro ! :)
@influencija Perma frost slows targets down more right? If your in a dungeon or party or whatever you probably wont need the extra slow speed.
@nobubbles4u
Technically the "best" spec will generally be whatever spec you last learned a new rank of fireball or frostbolt in was. Up to level 50, almost any spec is alright, once you hit 50 though WE is such a huge help that everything else is substantially worse from that point on. (plus ignite damage takes too long, you have to wait for it to tick to kill mobs or waste extra mana casting scorches, frost is all up front whic his nice).
@LovelyLittleLullaby
GCD is affected by haste (someone check if this holds in cata, I just realized I haven't actually tested it), I have a decent amount of passive haste + Icy veins = spamlance.
Any tips on pve and pvp gear? Like wat stats to go for or what items to use and where to get em
Good video thanks helped me alot.
I do notice at the end you say you could easily beat any snarable target with no gear using this method and i thought haha i wanna see this.. so it cuts to you with your wep: the main source of stats xD? aah well lol. gj
hell yeah mages ftw
Menu > Video > UI scale (slide the bar left for smaller)
I haven't played my mage in about 10 months. I think I'm going to switch from Arcane>Frost, and play it again.
