Derrick Rose was cut down before his prime and people have always wondered what would the NBA be like if he never got injured. The answer is here because Ja Morant is having a third season on par with the youngest MVP ever. This is a look at how the two players compare, if Ja can win MVP and if he can have the career that D Rose didn’t get to have.

honestly with teams playing arguably worse defense today, a 2011 DRose would smoke his defenders night in and night out. Just look at the games back then, the defence is SUPER tight, Ja can rely on great spacing, Rose had to drive to the paint while like 4-5 defenders were within 10 feet very often. Ja has a more well-rounded game, he’s a better shooter. He’s very deliberate and I think he has the higher ball IQ. Rose is cerebral sometimes but he had a more unconscious game in his prime. What will hurt Ja's chances of winning the MVP is how good his team was without him. He'll people were saying they may think about trading Ja "absolutely insane to believe that" due to those teammates showing up big without him. Had they struggled it would have raised his chances because his clear value would have been clear to see but that didn't happen. Small market teams can cost their star because people just don't get to see them as much and unless they finish #1 in the West most voters will say it's a feel good story and vote for someone else even if Ja is the most deserving! #JAforMVP2022

I don’t like that stat of “the last 11 finals MVPs were forwards”. It’s a little misleading IMO and I’ve seen people try and make the argument that “you can’t win with a scoring point guard”. Look at those teams…Iggy had no business winning MVP over Steph…KD has never won without Steph, honestly Leonard shouldn’t have won the first time, and like the rest are all LeBron who was always the de facto point guard/forward of every team he’s been on. Giannis also didn’t win anything until they upgraded at PG. What I haven’t seen win yet is a team like the Celtics or Clippers that are wing dominant with sub par guard play. I feel like you need that balance you need someone to set the rest of the team up. Or you need a LeBron.

I agreed until you started talking about their on the court play. Derrick Rose's passing and vision always been underrated...D-Rose skip passes were unbelievable. Also, you were wrong about saying he basically just runs straight to the rim. He been stopping dribbling showing off his floater and little post moves.

I don't think there can be another Derrick Rose, his story alone was crazy enough to make him unique, he's basically a generational talent. Only person who came close to him athletically was Russell Westbrook, and on paper, DRose as still better. Derrick was the best player of his year at that time (his MVP season) and his play style was gritty and rough, he was smooth round the basket though, but Ja is more similar to DRose in terms of their play style, but their game is very different.

Here’s the thing Rose never reached his prime for one, 2011 they were not shooting 3’s yet like they do in 2022. Steph Curry changed that so it forced more players to shoots 3’s and look at Roses 3’s now he has became a better shooter than he once was. Rose was much faster, although Morant has a better recorded vertical by 4 inches. Rose was just like a running back full head of steam. it’s unfortunate we didn’t really get to see a prime D rose, it would have been nuts. That being said Morant is the closest player we have seen to D-Rose. But like Morant says their is only one D-rose.

The fact you are comparing their stats when ja plays in an era where it’s more of an offensive style game anyways and any player including role players can put up 40 points in a game easy is a joke . Derrick had these numbers in seasons where it was harder for teams to score and put points on the board compared to the rate it is today .. that comparison is a joke
Teams barley got over the 100 point margin back then where today getting over 100 points is literally a cake walk

It was so entertaining to watch. Combined with the quickness of Rose, that made something special. Ja is an insane high flyer, but he doesn't have the same gracefulness and speed. He is insanely good to, but it doesn't feel the same. Also Rose was MVP in his third year .. Carrying his team to the best record as single consistent offensive threat on the team.
