- Good morning, well wishes to all my pinfeather enthusiasts.
Here is my old man rescue #cockatiel, Cincin! he is 22 years old and has been with me for 2 decades.
He's my #1 supporter and best buddy.
He doesn't like tweezers much, and prefers regular head scratchies. but he's willing to try something new today for a short period!
Speaking of trying a few new things, I would love your input :)
Would you prefer to hear soothing music in the videos, the raw video sounds from the original filming, or just silence?
Please comment below! thank you.

I like how he rotates his head to imply that he wants you to pull a little bit harder on them.
Ooh you are correct!
А что это?
Love how they bow the head and give you all the angles then once your done its immediately back to mind yo business 😂
Yeaaa they're so demanding haha!
My bird ALWAYS bites me in the middle of petting
Lmao yea they can be like cats. They enjoy it and suddenly they get mad and is like don't touch me
Hard??? Did you hit a blood feather? My Cockatiel nips when she doesn't like something or is ready to stop, but it doesn't hurt.
@@janaharvey-go8mh Ccockatiels just seem to do that sometimes. Mine sometimes bites before the petting even begins, even if he asked for it. (so it clearly isn't because of sore pin feathers) Then asks for pettings again. My other tiel doesn't do that thank god lol

I just pet my cockatiel. She loves it and that releases 95% of the pinfeathers. The other few I just use my nails.

That is so moving and loving that your helping him remove the pin feathers that bother him...I love cockatiels...such loving birds..
Aren't they amazing?!!! They're so underrated!
What the fuck is wrong with you people? That's not how you preen or remove pin feathers. Hope he catches the bird losing an eye. Since that's the only reason anyone would do this.
Teaching people to take tweezers to your birds head and ESPECIALLY pin feathers just inflicts pain and torture and possibly death into the bird as it bleeds out. But you get a new bird for more videos! Yay!!!!
@@Loralanthalasnobody is pulling out the pin feathers, they are agitating the keratin casing to let the feathers out, which is what you're SUPPOSED to do, and it's what birds do as a bonding activity with each other and to free their pin feathers. do your research before speaking out of your ass
@@Loralanthalaswhat the fuck is wrong with you spreading misinformation?! You've never been a bird owner and it's clear as day. I happen to be an entomologist hobbyist myself and never again spread this misinformation. You would know that leaving the pinfeathers alone would be not be healthy or good for the bird. In nature, these birds use their beaks on each other to do what tweezers are acting as! You should be ashamed of yourself for taking such a poor assumption that bird owners harm these animals. They are not cheap in general, even for the ones easily available! And each bird is unique in their appearance even if similar. And they all have unique personalities and are oftentimes loyal to the owner! People who kill or abuse birds are those who had never learned how to care properly for a bird. This is one of the good things to do for your bird as it is a form of preening which helps alleviate itching and uncomfortableness. Normally another bird is there to help aid but if you own only one bird? They are unable to do this as they cannot reach some of the areas. Where do you see the bird being tortured? The only time anyone would hit a blood feather is they didn't see it and they're a different color too, feels differently. Studying is all that's needed to know in order to avoid blood feathers. And if pain has been inflicted and you cause it nothing but pain? That bird will fly from you and keep from you, they absolutely not allow to be touched let alone let you anywhere near you and will bite if you try to handle them! This bird, clearly is allowing the owner to help with their pinfeathers that are ready to have the sheath removed. Blood feathers won't do that, they won't be easily removed and the bird will most definitely let you know it hurt. Although, in the video it's clear that the bird was enjoying this at first! I bet you don't even own any pets! Or is an animal activist of some sort!
Lol they knew exactly holding still just right kinda showing you this is where it's at friend! Love how they are like okay, enough those are the ones bothering me and you helped lol so smart. You're so kind and gentle with all these birds ❤

@@caylascott2236 ooh definitely! Bird and animal language is real hehe! Their expressive eyes, how they puff their feathers, the way they tilt their heads, their calls. So many clues on what they're feeling! I could watch my birds all day :)
Sweet birb ❤
So I’ve noticed Cockatiels love to have their pin feathers groomed by whoever is willing to do it. I saw one in a pet store in a cage by himself and I stuck my knuckle to the cage to see if he was friendly and he IMMEDIATELY dipped his little head to rub his pin feathers against my fingers. I felt so bad bc he didn’t have a cage mate to groom his head for him so I sat there a while trying my best to groom him through the cage bars. He really was pitiful with his stubborn pins 😢
They absolutely do!!! And SK do bigger birds too! Everytime I go to the store, I try to play with the birds there. Thank you for being so attentive to the cockatiel - they need all the love and help they can get❤️

Our 28yo Quaker is loaded with pin feathers. Due to Arthritis in feet our Bird Flipper cannot get to his pin feathers.
Thank you for showing this to us all. We just gently pinch the pin feather 🪶and it works good, but there is mega ones right now. We live in Florida and it’s September 28,2023.
There has to be a quicker way to deal with all the pin feathers on Flippers back?
Anyone here have an idea?
Thank you for telling us Flipper's story. Pinching with your fingers is the most gentle to them :). I think some daily preening sessions with him would be the best way to keep up with them! I wish I could preen every birds pinfeathers, haha! I love them so much! Quaker pinfeathers are huge so I can't see tweezers working on them.
Is he on metcam?
he gets angry when you put the bird dandruff on his back hahah
Hahahahahahaha yea XD
It’s all good until you accidentally pull one of the pin feathers
So true. I actually did this the other day. It hurt me that I hurt Elly😢. She recovered pretty fast, though.
@@pinfeathersgalore I just adopted an eastern rosella. She’s not to happy about the move. I’m not looking forward to doing it with her.LOL
@@pinfeathersgalore so use your fingers like a normal person and only break the tip of the shaft. Duh. Thera no excuse for what you're doing- other then stupidity
Pinfeathers is the new pimple popper
damn that must feel nice for a bird
I sure hope so :)
Why use tools for that. That's one of the most beautiful things a bird can let you do with your hands. It's what their partners would do usually
Partners use their beak, the tweezers feel more precise than fingers, like a beak.
Tweezers are dangerous. And do not create the needed bond.
But he is a real cutie🎉❤❤❤
@@jewlesw.2437not if used properly though. Things are dangerous when misused often times cause they don't know how to use them properly.
Wish my fingers were steady enough... Unfortunately I have uncontrollable muscle twitching that without tools, I can accidentally hurt. It's odd how it works, maybe, it's somehow psychosomatic in my case.
Those things hurt my boy
Aw! Sorry to hear that. It's a pretty rough time when they grow pinfeathers. You can spray him with a little misted water to help. Or, have you tried showering with him? Cincin loves showers so much I had to buy him a birdie shower perch :) it has suction cups that hang on the wall. The water helps soften the pinfeathers and it'll be less prickly.
Then stop doing it wrong.
Aha! This is the cockatiel I hear in your other videos. Surprisingly more curmudgeonly than your budgies 😆
He is! Haha he's a 22 year old man :) so it fits! He's turning 23 on the 9th of July, 2023.
I have a pet Cocateil named blue here. He always has those little things in his hair. I always plug them out.
Isn't it so much fun doing that?:) so relaxingm
Does this hurt the bird?
Great question!! The pinfeathers are are ready to open up, will not hurt him :) but it is sometimes sensitive and that's why he moves. Mostly though he really enjoys it.
I read my bird's body language and he tells me what to do :)
Yes. When the shaft is prematurely broken or removed from the feather before its grown--- that's the reason they'll "duck" quickly away. ONLY the white part should be broken ALWAY from the tip of tje fatjer, as ot grows and only tjen yoi start breaking further towards the birds body . This guy is an absolute moron with no idea of proper stewardship that any vet or 2 minute search could correct.
@@pinfeathersgalore Oh! Okay

I wonder why he/she has such an angry and violent reaction at the end? 🤔
He has many outbursts - if I give him the wrong food, if I'm trying to stop him from eating avocado, it's all sudden and quick, hehe. He may also be a grumpy old man (he's 23!!)

What is being done to the bird and why?
I'm taking off the keratin sheaths of feathers! This is a small part on how birds grow new feathers.

Where do you get you’re tweezers?
What is this? What is that stuff coming off?
Awww he is so cuteee❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!💗
What exactly are you doing?
PLEASE don’t do that!
As a bird owner myself I know that is really bad for their feathers.
It’s completely normal when they have that around their head feather bc they are GROWING
This is only when they are grond so if the start falling of you can do it
(NO HATE❤️)
Depends on how it's done. If the feathers are ready to come out of their sheath than it's fine. He isn't damaging anything and birds do this in the wild it's a great way to bond. Preening is natural and some birds have issues with freeing their pin feathers. I will say always know what you are doing as you don't want to damage anything/break a blood feather.
If the outside flakes off it’s ready to come off anyway- it’s not bad for them. If you do it too early then yes, it can be bad for them. Don’t forget that other birds preen them for it though so as long as you are careful it should be okay
Buongiorno io ho questo esemplare del video.
Esiste in commercio una pinzetta apposita per fare questo al pappagallo?
Grazie
MY BIRD WOULD BITE THE HECK OUT OF ME IF I DID THAT HES SOO INPATIENT
( so while I rub his head I pull it out with my fingers)😊😊
its weird, but whats the background music?
DON’T USE TWEEZERS ! Use fingernails. This also creates a bond with your bird. Being careful not to pick soft coated feathers as these are not ready to be groomed. If you do this then the bird bites you. They bite each other when grooming, also, so be careful. I would even delete this video bcz. It causes new bird owners to try this method & poke their birds eye.😮
She knows what she is doing.
Atleast they tryna save our babies
(I tried my best to summarize this reply, sorry if it’s a bit long and inconvienient! Also, if I did miss something, please correct me with no hesitation, thank you!)
If it helps, I did some researching through this channel and apparently they use tweezers as a way to mimic a bird’s beak in order to preen their birds! I also found out that they had a lot of experience and practice using the tweezers, so yes, in a way they do know what they are doing. For proof: you can search through their shorts to find a short titled “ Meet Bryon “. From there you can see they set up a warning to newcomers finding their channel if they did ever wanted to use tweezers. And you can look through the comment section to find the creator did respond to one of the commenters who were curious and wanted to find out more about why they used the tweezers and how they could become professionals themselves! Your welcome lovely person! Have an awesome day or night!
Если птица не ручная, то лучше всего её купать, и она сама будет себя чесать, кожица размокнет.
Я глажу пальцами, так как птица мне доверяет. Она кайфует. И я кайфую, гладя её. 🥰
What is the white stuff
Wait wait wait the sounded wrong
HAHAHA the white stuff is the good stuff if you know what I mean ;)
It's just pieces of very old keratin sheath around the pinfeather - think of it as dander, or old skin!
@@pinfeathersgalore ok
This is so sad 😢 my bird hates me or somthing??
what its that do i do the same with my bird?
My bird will scream to the top of his lungs and then when where done he will littely just act like we are still doing it so when we put him in his cage he will make that sound and it is so annoying
What’s that ?
O khud nikal lete he
EVERY TIME I TRY PETTING MY BIRD THEY JUS RUN AWAY OR FLY
And that's ok!! Sometimes birds just want their own space. I find that giving them treats (boiled egg, bits of chicken/fish, fresh veggies and lots of spray millet) out of your hand make them come to you!
I have a conure. Her pin feathers seem to bother her and I try to get them. She lets me at times and other times she screams and bites me. I feel like sometimes it hurts her, but I don’t know how to properly do it without. I just feel guilty cause their round her face and head and she just can’t get them
It can be tough feeling like you can't do much for your bird, but you are doing great! Sometimes when the pinfeather gets bumped or moved slightly, it can give them a little shock. In moments where I have to navigate against the "mines", I like to use my fingers just to rub gently against their head, and follow their cues.
But no matter how careful one is, it'll be inevitable that a bump or two will happen (and I notice it happens often to my birds preening each other. They have it hard since they can't see what they're preening!). Keep doing what you're doing and you'll pick up your bird's body language. Go soft, relaxed, and slow :)
The cockatiel: Ah yes! No more pins.
