So have I and I don't get it. Isn't this just a display of human emotions. There is nothing profound or special about it.
Just average random expression of something we all go through. Psychology is a testament the the abject failure of trying to fix what isn't broken. We need both, we all have the innate capability to deal with both but people are medicated, told what to do to cope with being human.... There is nothing wrong with you. You are not different from me in this way though my past might be covered in a lot more blood and the pretence that my anger is because of my service and somehow justified. Bullshit diagnosis of PTSD when it's just living a life.
I wasn't made to be broken and twisted nor were you, just accept who you are and hold your head high instead of listening to that bullshit. We are who we are and there is nothing to be fixed about that.
There is no hell below us and no heaven above, we are not special creations, we are just human beings not unlike any other animal here except for our capability for empathy which is what causes all of this. It is the most precious thing we have and it is the crucifying feeling of guilt that consumes you all at once. It is what you are, be proud of it, I'm proud of you for it.

I’m a 57 y.o. Navy veteran. I’ve seen many things around the world. I’ve been exposed to a great variety of people, cultures, and music. Ren truly floored me with this one. Like you, tears streamed down my face. I wish someone had the talent, insight, and courage to have made this song/video/ART PIECE thirty years ago, when this incredible wisdom would have benefited me most. As an old dog, I’m grateful I’m still open to learning new tricks. Ren gives us some amazing wisdom here, “It was never really a battle for me to win…” This is so very true. I was a victim of my inner critic for many years. Fortunately, I connected with others who taught me to dance with that critic, to soften his words using self-empathy, to build strategies to overcome his fears, and to keep moving forward toward becoming the man I wanted to be. And, to no longer punish myself for being human, but continue to learn and grow. Yes, this piece of musical art is amazing. Hope to see you dive deep into the Reniverse, as Ren is an amazingly talented instrumentalist, singer, rapper, lyricist, storyteller, and enlightened human being. Before going any further on the Ren journey, I’d suggest reading up on him and what he’s been through. His story is inspirational, yet far from over. Warm wishes sent your way, a new follower.🥰

People say Ren's this generation's Prince, but I'm a formally trained classical pianist (amateur), have played for 44 years, and I think we're looking more on the order of the next Mozart.
That possibly sounds like a strange statement to a flautist who "only" has Hi Ren under her belt, but this guy is beyond the real deal.
As you watch other Ren tracks, the level of genius will overwhelm you (beyond however much it's already overwhelmed you).
    - "You wanna be a big deal, next Jimi Hendrix?" Dark Ren asks mid-song; Ren shows you that despite not having taken guitar lessons, he can play a flamenco guitar pretty beautifully (I saw you leaning into his phrasing of the intro guitar line; it brought tears to my eyes because you know what you're hearing & you know what you're feeling & we don't always get reactors who "see" it). You'll enjoy the musical interludes in The Trilogy (the 13+ min video of Jenny/Screech/Violet). Violet's theme is some of my favourite melody in the history of music.
Then of course there's his voice - you heard his Sting/reggae belt today in Hi Ren; wait until you hear what he does with Chinchilla. Chalk Outlines is one of my very favourite Ren songs, and other than the heavy autobiographical lyrics, it's utterly unlike Hi Ren. The mashup/retake he put out recently "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle" is another gorgeous vocal track, easy to recommend.
Vocal harmonies? Chalk Outlines and How to Be Me with Chinchilla, and you HAVE
    H
    A
    V
    E
to see Swan Song by his old band The Big Push. It's Gorran's song (the bassist) but it's not to be missed.
(The Big Push is amazing, 3 creative geniuses who were bottled lightning together... later, they found a drummer, Glenn, and things got even better, but I don't know enough about him to make any claims about his creative genius like I can about Gorran and Romain).
And he raps so well it brings rap fans to the table, and convinces those who never really paid much attention to rap, to count some of his rap songs as among their favourite Ren songs. The Hunger bent my brain when I first encountered it. Genesis is another huge fan favourite. Power is my personal anthem, though I don't get the sense from the rap fans among us that it ranks super high on the "ong this guy's an amazing rapper" tracks compared to some of his others. But it's brilliantly written, hugely uplifting message, and the hook is a whole brain worm. And there's Sick Boi, which vies with Chalk Outlines for top spot on my list. Murderer is another incredible video, and the hook is another unescapable ear worm.
Bare minimum, he's the 21st century Bob Dylan, lyrically. It's not all heavy stuff; he writes plenty of fun tracks, but it's all brilliant writing on any number of levels. Some of his recent "fun" rap songs aren't my favourites but I can still respect the wordplay.
He's an unmatched storyteller. The Jenny/Screech/Violet trilogy is the clear piece to point to here, but it permeates pretty much everything he does to some extent.
And he's pretty much a self-taught pianist. He had a couple of lessons as a kid, but literally only a couple. He's not full-on a *Mozart* on the piano, but he's ridiculously competent and fully capable of expressing his musical genius on the keyboard. Tracks that are set to piano instead of guitar include Money Game 3 and For Joe... but I'd caution against going into For Joe until you've caught your breath a bit with Ren's personal journey. It's intense. Also his recent instrumental track Mackay (I find it to be a lovely piece but it's not my favourite style of composition. I'm impressed at how layered a composition it is, for someone who never went through formal lessons/theory/music composition).
He apparently also can fart around on a cello and trombone although I don't believe we've seen that. You'll see that he composed a string quartet part for one of his songs. Quite successfully. Brings tears to my eyes.
He plays bass like a madman (mostly with The Big Push, where the bassist sometimes picks up an acoustic & Ren takes the bass... Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard is an ASTONISHING performance by the whole band), and also has some ability to play drums. Before The Big Push found their drummer, Ren played drums for the band "when it was necessary" lol.
He beatboxes. You'll hear it on The Hunger, and also one of the more recent hip hop songs I don't enjoy as much, Loco, where every sound on that track is made with his voice. Again, it may not be something I love, but you can't ignore the talent.
You'll be blown away by the videos he puts out - they're amazing, and most if not all of them come from his head. He's said in interviews that a lot of the time the video is born in his head at the same time the song is being written. He directs almost all of them (possibly all), and up until now he's largely been the one editing them too. Some, he filmed himself, lol (Losing It and at least parts of What You Want; probably others too).
Speaking of proeess with tech-in-art, he's also recorded and produced the bulk of all his music, including samples and beats, or however rap folks talk about "all the stuff that isn't the rapper rapping."
As if THAT isn't enough, he enjoys creating music and video so much he and his main videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey (who was behind the camera for Hi Ren) are hoping to make a multimedia TV series of short-format films for something like Netflix. Again, watch Jenny/Screech/Violet; but also Money Game 1 (another of my very very very favourite Ren tracks) and Money Game 3, to get a sense of the kinds of things that might come out of that. He said Black Mirror-like, but with musical storytelling.
There's still more to list, but this is way too long so I'll leave it at this.
Super glad you were willing to share your vulnerability with us here on CZcams! I smashed the subscribe button at 5:00 because no matter how much more Ren you do, I'm quite certain I'll enjoy your content. ❤
(I mean, I hope you do All The Ren lol, but I'm interested to check out what else you get up to here).

@@charlieosstyngood observations, but it turns out that while the audio of Hi Ren is all one take, done live in that room, the video has bits of the 3 other takes edited into the cuts (see his interview with The Charismatic Voice, and others). Some/many Renegades (including myself) misunderstood in the early days of Hi Ren's release, and it's been an impossible little bit of misinformation to eradicate since then despite Ren mentioning the reality of it in a couple of interviews.
Obviously, it's an AMAZING nine minute live performance whether the video was ALL from one runthrough or not, and it's also amazing that the audio *and* all of the video was captured in the 4 runthroughs they were able to capture before they were asked to leave the building.
The confusion isn't helped by the fact that different people have different ideas about what a "one take" or a "one shot" is, and Ren's worded some things somewhat ambiguously himself on Twitch streams (not on purpose, I don't think; just the way his words came out in the moment. He was very clear about it in The Charismatic Voice interview, though).

The "spiraling out of control" on guitar during the dark part, is actually really brilliant. Ren is playing tritones, also known as the "Devil's Interval". They're chords that were forbidden in writing music years ago, because most music was written for the Church and gods. They have an extremely chaotic, discordant sound, that almost makes them sound very uncomfortable and almost out of tune. The fact that Ren incorporates them into that dark part, is absolute genius.

He is getting much better after some intensive therapy and medical backing in Canada and US. He is an amazing artist who puts his whole heart into is music and art.

When I started my work as a therapist (30 years ago) I was taken in by the idea that we had to be positive at all times; and, in the circles I moved in, people would even pick me up on the word 'but'. 'You should say, "and" instead, Alan.'
It seemed ridiculous that if I said , 'I want to go for a walk, but it's raining' someone would say it should be, 'I want to go for a walk, and it's raining.' It didn't make sense, and it didn't convey the message.
It really is okay to say 'but'! And it's more than okay to have 'negative' thoughts. In fact, they're vital to your quality of life. Let me explain.
The whole dogma of having to be 'positive' at all times makes no sense. Ask a business person to look only at the benefits of an investment, for instance, and ignore costs, risks, etc and they'll think you're crazy. They'll rightly say, 'I need to look at both sides - not just one!' Indeed. We do need to consider the upside AND the downside.
When you buy something you want to know what you will get from it, AND what it will cost.
I helped my clients best by saying they needed to look at the 'costs' as well as the benefits of anything. For instance, it's true that the benefits of gambling can be huge, but usually gambling causes financial loss, and can lead to a life-destroying addiction. Ignoring these possible costs is incredibly unwise.
In time, the term, 'Toxic Positivity' emerged in Psychology. I embraced it whole-heartedly. It pointed out that just as 'negative' thoughts can be toxic, so too can 'positive' ones. Positive thoughts can be so extreme that, for instance, they may induce you to act incautiously in the belief that you're 'bound' to succeed.
Toxic Positivity may tell us something can be done easily when in reality it requires masses of hard work. Another example is that we can over-estimate the likely rewards. These 'positive' delusions can badly affect our quality of life.
When you change your perception, just as Ren has done, and learn that these two 'voices' are 'two sides of the same coin' then your battle starts to subside.
You realise that some downside thoughts are unhelpful - they can tell us we aren't able to do things that objectively we know we can, for instance; or claim our chances of success are far less than they truly are.
But downside thoughts can be helpful. They may make us take necessary precautions, look at things in a balanced way, and decide to do something that involves less risk.
So, instead of battling your thoughts - 'positive' or 'negative' - you can welcome them all. You can explore each one - not to see whether it's encouraging you to do something or discouraging you - but to discover whether it's true and accurate.
When you change your perceptions like this, you want to know both the costs and possible benefits of any action. You don't want false information.
As you explore your thoughts in this way, you realise that many of your thoughts are helpful, but others are unhelpful. As Ren says, this is not about David versus Goliath, but simply truth-seeking so you can decide how to live in a realistic and honest way with yourself.
In practise, you can welcome any thought - whether it's a 'take action' thought or an 'avoid doing it' thought. You can then question it: 'Is this true?' 'Is this accurate?' 'Is this helpful?'.
So all thoughts give us an opportunity to see life and ourselves in a more realistic way. Every unhelpful thought is no longer an 'enemy' to be destroyed, but an opportunity to learn more about how you think and to improve the accuracy of your thoughts.
You can start to dance with your thoughts, unafraid of that destructive voice, willing to discuss its claims with it, and to undermine the false info your thoughts can give you.
As Ren says, we aren't gods, angels or demons. They don't debate with themselves, they have no counter voice - with them it's all clear and simple. We're human; we have conflicting thoughts all the time. But this gives us the opportunity to improve our lives if we cease the battle and embrace all of them, exploring them to see whether they are unhelpful or helpful.
Changing unhelpful thoughts can take a long time, but every time you explore them you get nearer to developing more helpful ones.
    Good luck everyone.

I look forward to more from you.
I believe This video represents 4 stages of Ren's life journey.
1/ during the intro instrumental part with his unique vocalizations, prior to lyrics, while the lights are not flickering.....is "artist Ren" struggling to create a new beautiful song.
2/ flickering lights.... His creativity is interrupted by "negative Ren" telling him his music is bad and give up.
3/ solid lights....is Ren trying to take back control from the negative Ren.
4/ flickering lights after lyrics and the more powerful instrumental....is "artist Ren" with a healthier mind and he is back to creating his beautiful song with more power and confidence because he has "learned to relax, learned to soften and that dance got easier."

Absolutely loved your reactions. Subscribing for more Ren reactions. I think before you react to any more of his songs, you should react to Ren's " what is success, getting one million you tube followers." You notice that at the end of hi ren, another one of his videos/songs "Sick boi" is advertised. That song is a naturally continuation of "Hi Ren" or vice versa depending on your perspective. Lots of reactors have done that one as their 2nd Ren song. And while, no doubt, you will come across, react to,and be suggested a lot of his "heavier" songs or subject matter, I think it's really important for you to expose yourself to his lighter, simply "fun" music so keep tracks like "Humble," "Ocean," "what you want," Losing it," "the hunger," "Uninvited," "Loco," "1990es," "Love Music parts 1 -4 " etc. The themes of mental health appear often but not allow his music is depressing. As you hopefully go down the Ren rabbit hole, you will come across another artist "Chinchilla" who Ren calls like a."musical sibling" that I think you'll like which hopefully become its own separate rabbithole to go down. Keep up the great work

Wow. I watch a Hi Ren reaction about once or twice a week. This was the best. Making sure this is shared to the reactor page. Someone in the loop please show this to Ren.

A Ren song without emotion is a Ren song with the volume too low. Thank you, I cried too which I don’t do much to Hi Ren anymore but your raw emotions were so real I could not stop the tears. Ren does this to me. Thank you so much.

NO SHAME in crying at this. It's a cathartic journey.

Never apologize for crying. As a slightly emotionally damaged being, I truly, honestly appreciate the raw emotion you are sharing with us.

You got it exactly. I feel your own pain and I've felt it too. This song has been so helpful to me, especially the idea of it not being a battle, but a dance. That you can't fight or get rid of those parts of yourself, but you can learn to accept and live with them and dance with them so you can move on and find joy.

His music is extremely raw. He doesn’t hold back at all with the emotion. You can feel the venom in the words of his inner voice and hear his voice on the edge of breaking in the response. It’s something a lot of people can relate too and hear their own inner voices represented in his struggle as well. We are all humans here and everyone has their owns struggles they have been through and that they face. There is nothing to be ashamed of in crying. We are all here on this journey with him together and I tear up every single time I’ve heard this song.

I've probably seen 100 reactions to Hi Ren many of which are excellent, and I think yours is legitimately one of the best. Such a lot of musical insights that I hadn't heard before and you are really brave to be so emotionally honest.

I’m a 56 year old man and cried too. I’m sure millions have this kind of internal dialect.
Writing this just as you cried. There’s no shame in that; it shows empathy. But just wait til the end when he stands up.

You carry a lot of hurt within yourself, I can tell because I had the same reaction watching this performance for the first time. It helped me a lot because I felt less alone with my struggles realizing so many are going through theirs. There's a community here, reach out whenever you feel the need to, it really does help.
Beautiful and honest reaction. Thank you.

You can see the recognition of this struggle from those who have fought it. You are not alone. There are many like you, including me. Sometimes I feel like I am literally fighting for my life. Much love.
