- In the year 2000 Richard Bona was in Amsterdam. He made his television debut with his own band in Reiziger in Muziek. He played a couple of songs from his first album 'Scenes from My Life'. Some years before we watched Bona play at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Hague with 'The Zawinul Syndicate'. We were all blown away by his craftsmanship, his technique, and his sound. So a dream came true on that Sunday morning in november 2000. Besides his own compositions he joined Janis Ian in our show. We asked him to do us a favour: “would you like to accompany her in the famous song 'Seventeen'?” “Yeah sure”, was his answer. He was so polite, because he didn’t know Janis Ian and he didn’t know the song. It was a heartwarming performance.
His staggering command of the electric bass has earned Richard Bona a solid reputation as the next big thing on the instrument since Jaco Pastorius. since his solo debuts in 1999, Richard Bona has defended the idea of music that's universal: generous and accessible to all.

I walked into a NYC jazz club one night (55 Bar) and there was Richard Bona. I had no idea who he was. Mike Stern on guitar. Dennis Chambers on drums. It was a life changing experience.
What a night!
😮
Everyone here has that experience of Richard Bona. Never heard about the guy, then he showed up one day in our life and changed it.
@@yapadqoi I was not prepared for the beauty, uniqueness, & musicianship of Richard Bona. He started singing the Cameroon melodies over the music and my soul was elevated. What a gift.

Nice!!!
Seriously, who are these musicians in this band besides Richard Bona.
i don't know about the drummer or the sax player, but the guy on keys seems to be Etienne Stadwijk, who's been playing with Bona for ages. And the guitarist looks a lot like Oz Noy, I had no idea they played together
