Shift + Cue takes you back to the start of the track. Facepalm - I've been using my controller for nearly a year and didn't know that!! Thank you for this gem.
Nicely explained! I'm here because I'm a beginner who was wondering about the usefulness of the cue button when we have these 4 lovely hot cue buttons, and you addressed that clearly. Thank you!
I know some guys who have to press frantically the Cue button before lunching their songs and actually make it wrong and not in sync or right time! I never use the Cue button to start the song, just hit Play, always on sync on right time
Word. I may gotta watch another time or two & let it marinate to get my mind and body mechanics to coordinator with what I’m seeing. But yea, I felt like I cannot move forward until I know what this basic function does first 🧐
Great video! I just got back into djing after 20 years of absence. You are actually not entirely right about where the cue button originates from: it is from my time 😅 when we got the first cd players with pitch control and pitch bend (plus and minus buttons that have long since been replaced by the jog wheel) there was no intelligence whatsoever in the system. The first thing you'd do, is skip trough the track, looking for the first beat. Yes, manually that is, and just by ear, since there was no display, just a time and frame indicator. One found, you press cue, and used that point to start beat matching, also manually and by ear. That took up like 80 percent of your time and once you got really good at it you could do it in under 30 seconds so you had some time left to make a cool transition 🎉
I really just needed to know why my Cue button kept switching from the 1st point I placed to another random spot . Because you can change the cut point whenever you pause the track. Why would I want to do that-is what I’m asking myself now to figure out. ?I REALLY appreciate this breakdown video. You explained it clearly, wasn’t a lot of nonsense in the way of explaining what the difference between the two and you didn’t get carried away on a DJ tangent 😂 like many of us do.
Track is paused, i slide the cursor to bar 4 and press Cue button. Instead of setting the cue button point there it just snaps back to the beginning (where it was originally set). What's my issue?
What is your current setup? I know on CDJs, if they are paused, the cue button placement will snap back IF you let go of the jogwheel before pressing the cue button at the new cue location (to try to relate to your issue). On my Pioneer DDJ-SR however, I have not encountered this issue. The only way I was able to replicate your issue is by using the HOT cue button (usually mapped to a square performance pad) which is not able to be changed unless deleted first. Therefore if I pause the track and move the cursor ahead or back and try to hit the hot cue at that new location it will go back to its original hot cue location which is what it's designed to do. Hot cues are different from the original cue point which is usually located directly above the play/pause button and has an orange LED indicator light. I hope this helps.
@@thecelebrationdj Hi Brandon, I can't seem to replicate your issue on my rekordbox and I don't have a DDJ 1000 handy to connect to to mimic your setup. I am running Rekordbox version 5.8.5 though, not sure if an upgrade would help for ya rekordbox.com/en/download/ The newest version is 6.5.0. The last thing I can thing of is to experiment with "Quantize" being turned on or off (if turned on, your cue point will snap to the nearest grid marker). If none of this works. Shoot me a message and we can setup a call to dive deeper. Thanks.
@@missiondj6070 thanks for taking a look. Sadly, i can't run 6.5 on my laptop. Lags. Quantize is definitely on, but that doesn't explain why it's snapping back to the start, right?
@@thecelebrationdj if you haven't already, try holding the jogwheel in place where you want to set your cue point WHILE you set the cue point (don't let go of the jogwheel). It may be that you are letting go of the jogwheel prior to setting your new cue (?) in which case it will snap back to the original cue point as a "time saver" function.

Of course! Happy to help :)

Very helpful video. I like the idea of using the hot cue as a marker of when to bring in the next track.

To each their own! I do a variation of start methods, so whatever works best for you?
Just what I needed - thank you 🙏
excellent!

Thank you! I just kinda realized I never use the cue button since I always use the hot cues. Was nice to clarify what it would be useful for.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Thank you bro!

Oh that makes sense! I'll start using it.
Nice!
Thank you good video

Ohhhhhh. The Cue button is the original SYNC button. Interesting.
Not quite, but maybe the beginning of it :)

Do a video explaining the Sync button
It just syncs the bpms of the tracks
How can you remove them?
like he missed this big time
shift and click the hot cue
Yo I mix 😊
