As Ike marched westward towards the United States, I downloaded newscasts from cable and TV stations to document the path of the hurricane. It ultimately made landfall at Galveston, Texas.
I've survived Rita (2005), Ike (08), Harvey (17), Imelda (19), I've seen em all as a Houston native and I'm ready for more 3:42 that forecast cone brings back memories
Same, Just I didnt experience rita and ike. Harvey a whole different thing. Nearly same level of Ike's destruction. Imelda wasnt a problem for me. Its was like Beta
I was 5 during hurricane Ike and lived in tomball texas which is a northern suburb of houston. I remember the wind being like nothing I'd ever seen. We went to my grandma's house that had no power, and when we finally got home, there was about an inch of water in the house but our power was on.
This Hurricane was not fun one bit. I live in southeast Texas about 30 minutes from Galveston. We had 2 weeks without any power and had major flooding in my neighborhood. Storm surge was really bad with this one.
GordanFreeman23, I am looking for people to interview who lived in the Galveston area during Hurricane Ike for a study that I am doing. If you would be willing to answer a few questions and could email me at godsgroupies@gmail.com I would very much appreciate it. Thank you
I'm form 2021 I can tell you things that will happen that year the vaccine got released Joe Biden became president there was a mass destruction at the White House in January 6th
It was my 15th birthday when Ike hit Houston. I was super excited because that meant no school. Lol. We had no power. No stores had water. But somehow my parents still got me a cake :D
Scariest hurricane I ever sat through. My family was supposed to evacuate but for some reason they didn't and being a young teenager I couldnt leave on my own. It was so loud and the power went out at night.
I remember the time when Ike hit Houston. I didn’t understand what was going on, are house flooded, my mom and my sister had to carry me and my twin brother to a different house walking through high water in a driveway. We lost many things when it ended. It was terrifying, I was only 4 years old and I saw the water seep into the house. Me and my brother had to stand on the couch to stay away from the water. Then Harvey happened 2 years ago, and I was scared I honestly believe I have developed a kind of PTSD from Harvey, I mean I physically and mentally can’t be in a thunderstorm without having severe anxiety and just sheer fear of what will happen. I get OCD (obsessive compulsion disorder) every time a thunderstorm hits or just a storm seems to be forming nearby. Just hearing the warnings from my phone makes me scared, and remember the hurricane. Nothing was so emotional for me to see the sun again when the storm was gone. I remember my mom asking why I was crying to I responded with “we made it”
i lived in Cypress, TX (suburb or Houston) at the time of Ike. i don’t remember anything, as i was only 2, but my mom has always told me that there was complete destruction in Galveston. we didn’t have much damage, just a few shingles gone, a broken window, and a flooded street, and i’m thankful for that. i’m sorry to everyone else who was affected by this. my thoughts and condolences to everyone.
Wait really, no way! I also live in a suburb of Houston, Webster, and I was also 2. Luckily we were okay and so was our house, no lost trees. I think Ike was more wind, Harvey was worse, because the water got up higher then ever, all the way up to the sidewalks!
Bro i lived in texas city when ike hit and everybody at my apt complex ate bbq for like a week...we was without power for a week but everyone came together a bbqd cuz we had to do something with the meat without power
Harvey wasn’t a hurricane. It was a tropical storm. I was 8 during hurricane Ike and I remember it vividly. Harvey didn’t even come close to how horrible Ike was. Harvey was just downpours of rain. I’m watching this right now hoping Laura doesn’t become another situation like Hurricane Ike.
The eye went right over us. We have a well built house. It's new, and it's built up to code 10 miles inland, and that betch was swaying. I was terrified. The trees were falling down all around us. I thought for sure one of them was going to fall on the house.
Ike was one of the most under rated hurricanes..& these reporters dont help. First, it was practically a cat 5 out over the Atlantic. Second, it was only a cat 2 in the gulf but he was MASSIVE and on the new energy scale he was practically equivalent to Katrina when she was at C5 strength- that's why his storm surge was so incredible. Third, he was ultimately the most costly Cuban hurricane &the second most costly US hurricane in recorded history. You guys who live thru this stuff are amazing.
Fell asleep after the eye passed over my house.. was pretty cool to scope things out while the winds were down. wasn't quite so fun when they came back around from the other direction. Got back inside in quite a hurry lol.
I slept on our balcony and watch all the pine trees sway over like never seen before, I was an intrigued amarillo transplant so I was expecting something similar to a tornado but the hurricane lasted much longer
I was 6, 7 in a month and my home was fine somehow, this is what started my interest in hurricanes. The power was out for a week :o I still live in Houston today
Ike was much worse than many know. The storm surge was several feet higher than expected since the storm was much larger and more intense earlier so the dome of early water near the eye never dissepated. Also Ike came in at a more northwesterly angle raising the late surge to higher than the 1900 storm, the most deadly in US history. The seawall saved almost all in Galveston in Ike but just to the North on the Boliver Penninsula, there were hundreds swept away when the surge cut off their escape early and strong waves beat down almost all the structures between sea level and 22 ft elevation. Deaths were higher than ever reported because so many were not recovered from the bay. So I learned from my neighbor, a diver and his asdociates. Galveston County simply hushed it up.
I slept through most of the storm, my parents woke me up a few times to look outside as the storm got worse, but I was OUT. But afterward was no fun at all, we had no power for 3 weeks, so we had to go stay with my aunt in league city. But that was fine because my school was closed for at least 2 weeks until they got power back.
Rode Ike out like a boss!! My uncle and I smoked a cig before the worst of the winds came in. Had no power for like a week and half! Slept in the car for ac.. Crazy week
The NWS made a big mistake ranking hurricanes by winds only instead of by wind, pressure and potential storm surge. On a 1 to 5 scale with these factors Ike was a category 4 storm. I went through Alicia (strong cat 3) as a kid in 1983 and that storm was not as bad.
The Weather channel people act like Clowns, everytime I see them reporting a storm, they fall down, or get blown over, just as you noticed after this guy stumbles and nearly falls, he gets back up, suddenly the winds not affecting him anymore, get real, I survived Hurricane Ike, was in it, I didnt get blown over,, they do it just to make the report more exciting..
I was in that hurricane It was very scary. I was 4 when it happened and I was playing outside and a strong wind just blew me down. I didn't know a hurricane was coming!

That's why even the meteorologist can't predict where a hurricane is going....

"YOU'LL GET NO SYMPATHY FROM ME!"
"WE LIKE IKE, WE LIKE IKE-"
Don't kill me please, it's a joke related to Fire Emblem Ike, and Smash Bros Ike.

GordanFreeman23 i agree i live 1 mile away from san antonio and major flooding ang power outage was not good i had to move out where i used to live

7:41 The absolute best (and maybe only) thing about hurricanes is watching these reporters roll around in the wind! 🤣🤣🤣

Sometimes I think the Weather channel people blow things out of Proportion to make the newscast very dramatic, infact, I know they do.
I ate nothing but beans and carne asada, it felt more like a vacation lol

9:00 No it did not dissipate rapidly because this Hurricane Ike had such a LARGE EYEWALL. It was an anomaly.
I slept on our balcony and watch all the pine trees sway over like never seen before, I was an intrigued amarillo transplant so I was expecting something similar to a tornado but the hurricane lasted much longer

Erick Hernandez same
Erick Hernandez I was 5
Erick Hernandez what part of Houston
north side
EITHER!
Can't believe it hit all the way in Texas instead of Florida
I evacuated to Lake Charles during Ike. Still ended up getting a bunch of rain and wind; power went out and even some tree branches went down.

*_PREPARE YOURSELF_*
I slept like a baby in ike. Greatest sleep I ever had.
I was 24 when IKE made landfall
I was living in Jersey Village houston Tx at the time.
I was 1 when this happened.
I had been living in Galveston for a month - lost my apartment, lost my job, everything. Of course FEMA didn't give me anything either...
I slept through most of the storm, my parents woke me up a few times to look outside as the storm got worse, but I was OUT. But afterward was no fun at all, we had no power for 3 weeks, so we had to go stay with my aunt in league city. The fun thing about this storm was the power went out!
But bad is my neighbors fence fell over!
Rode Ike out like a boss!! My uncle and I smoked a cig before the worst of the winds came in. Had no power for like a week and half! Slept in the car for ac.. Crazy week
Why the majority of these storms have to come on land in the middle of the night is just amazing to me.
i ask myself this too.. its amazing..i remember it like it was just yesterday the winds were roaring
I was so scarred
I’m here for nostalgia I remember COD World at War released in November that year many memories……..
i had no power for three weeks and i just had a newborn the heat was horrible !
