I didn't expect All Quiet to win as many awards as it did. It really did come out of nowhere.
BAFTA helped it. I wished it had won Best Picture as well.
@@Gavin48 Best Actor & best Actress
I thought it deserved more tbh
This award was the shock of the night.... Not even at the Bafta where it swept the board, did it win in this category.
Still, it is well deserved. All Quiet has some stunning wartime scenery and the period setting couldn't be better.
Babylon really did crash and burn in the awards season. Went from having lots of nominations at the Globes and Critics Choice to only getting nominated for 3 Oscars and winning 0.
It’s kind of what happened with Rob Marshall’s Nine: a potential awards contender that flips financially & while it gets some Oscar nods, it STILL goes home empty handed…
Of all this year's Oscar winners, All Quiet beating Babylon for Production Design was the most shocking. Babylon won Critic's Choice, and even beat All Quiet at the Art Directors Guild AND BAFTA. Like, BAFTA loved All Quiet and they didn't give it Production Design!
And it showed the voters REALLY did go out of their way to make sure Babylon didn’t win a single Oscar, while showcasing that Catherine Martin is either winning two Oscars on the night or none.
That was shockingly surprising. I think that Babylon had to pay the fact that it wasn't that accurate and that it was not that new, we have seen old Hollywood so much during these times.
@@aqualcunopiaceclassico3201 And that voters despised it. Some of the Oscar predictors who’ve talked with a handful of voters said they hated it so much they weren’t willing to vote for it in any of its categories.
@@MrJoker3571 I saw the ballots, but they are few voters. I think it was quite hated and I get that, I did not lie the film either. It is a bad LA LA LAND, with all the poetic that tha film had gone. I think that is the main problem of the film per se. It all felt so trivial and so already-watched. Now, even EEAAO feels a little bit like this, but the problem with Babylon is that it feel exactly like another film by the same director.
I think Cate Blanchett losing and JLC winning supporting was the most ridiculous.
Maybe Babylon losing is a sign of old school Hollywood movie fatigue?
I was angry that All Quiet had beaten Babylon in this category when this second one deserved it much more, but seeing it from the academy's side it was a possible tie, but meh, I want to think that the academy didn't give any oscar to babylon for telling all they truths to Hollywood, in the same way, seeing all the production design in all the war in All quiet is amazing
Love this win! I get that people are upset Babylon didn't win (tho, after all these years, I am not surprised anymore by old hollywood scenarios, we have seen it all multiple times), but that doesn't mean all quiet did not deserved the award, cause it did. The trench was amazing, the reconstruction of the train in which peace was signed was so good but two things mesmerized me: one, the scene at the rail station (that one is production design gold) and then the tanks. They were completely CGI and not only did they look real (kudos to the visual effects department) but the design of it was so good and so accurate. The movie wants to show them like a monster, when you see them for the first time you should feel in an horror sci-fi film, and thanks to sound and the production design we felt that. Oh, also the scene where Paul is with his friends before signing to go to war was shot in MODERN DAY Prague. And it really did look ike '17 Germany. So kudos to Ernestine. I love how shocked she was.
For me Babylon deserved this Oscar for best production design, anyway compliments to All quiet!
I guess it won because of what they managed to do with the relatively low budget
The victory that most surprised me on the night was this one, I thought it would go to Babylon or Elvis, but I can totally understand All Quiet On the Western Front winning this though.
Kori thanks for the update 😂🎉🎉
I am here for the Hugh Grant joke😁
didnt know there was a remake of it. every kid watched the original in school
96th Oscars (2024) Next Year
Hell, if Wakanda Forever was nominated for Best Production Design over The Fabelmans and won, I would’ve absolutely accepted that winning over Babylon instead of…this.
A nomination, fine.
But winning…why this one?
Because the production design is amazing and tell the story very well?
@@aqualcunopiaceclassico3201 So did 1917, and I’m glad that got nominated for Best Production Design, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was definitely the more deserving winner there.
Plenty of those flicks have gotten Best Production Design noms, so why was All Quiet the winner this year? What was it about the production design there that made it stand out to make it win for that category?
It looks nice, period accurate, plus fits the story and tone the filmmakers were going for. But against Babylon? That one also fits all of the criteria mentions, but Babylon had personality and distinctiveness that fit certain character’s lifestyle and headspace and profession to a ridiculously meticulous degree in a way to where it made the world feel like a character in and of itself (as cliched as that sounds).
@@DieHardAlien I think it was a number of factor. The fact that AQOTWF cost only $20M and so they did all that with little money and so little time. Also, 1917 would have been a great winner (I would have chosen Parasite, sincerely) and in fact it won the BAFTA. Also, I know it is not MOST, but the amount of work that had to be done in AQOTWF is way more than 1917, which was mostly shot in untouched countryside. Finally, i think voters are a little bit sick of movies about old Hollywood. In few years, La La Land, Mank and OUATIH won the award. All movies about old Hollywood, all old Hollywood recreations/renovation. To not say that few years before we had The Artist. Also, the mixture between old Hollywood and contemporary days was seen in La La Land, so it doesn't strike two times in row in Babylon because we already have seen it. And the main problem is that we have already seen it in a movie by the same director.
@@aqualcunopiaceclassico3201 Good explanation. Sincerely good indeed.
Then how do you explain Fabelmans getting nominated over Wakanda Forever when we already have a Hollywood movie in there that looks better than the former?
@@DieHardAlien i don't get the question. Fabelamans is not a film about old Hollywood. WF would have not been a deserved nod, especially considering how much better and more creative the underwater world in Avatar was.
Biggest upset of the night! We need more shockers in the acting categories
it's sad said that because AQOTWF is a foreing film and this is not usual but this is the most undeserved oscar of the night, literally any of the others films deserved more
Actually it is very much deserved.Have you seen the tanks? Or the arms?
@@aqualcunopiaceclassico3201 yes, is pretty good, but there's not comparison whit Elvis, Babylon or Avatar, especially this last one, the world, the animals, the human's ship, all amazing and never watched before.
@@Leeeooooooooooo I can agree on Avatar for the Whales, their design was really good. But it was just that imho. I can't understand Elvis. You know, it was mainly recreation, and the film is really bad with the shots, so it doen't really underline Martin's work, which was not that creative. I get Babylon but it is not like old Hollywood movies don't win almost every year, I think voters are a little bit sick of them. AQOTWF was quite challeging and the design is SO good. The trenches were really good, so where the factoris, the little town where the soldier rested. The scene out of the school was actually shot in 2021 Prague (would you ever said it?). It is pretty amazing the job they did on a $20M budget.
And Asian Movies all Trailers in Oscars 2024
The movie All Quiet on the Western Front that has new or special in production design???
Why didn't Andie Macdowell say the movie's full title? She only said All Quiet.
she added the rest few seconds later
All Quiet winning Best Production Design doesn't make sense when you consider it hasn't won literally anything in this category and Babylon was sweeping this category everywhere with The BAFTA and Critics Choice wins. Feel like Babylon was totally robbed should've won atleast 1 out of its 3 Noms.
Golden Globes doesn’t even have a Production design category, duh! Also, Babylon wasn’t robbed, AQOTWF deserved it…
@@gauravw6947 Oo shoot my bad 😅 I was so busy writing the names of all the major precursors I forgot about that.
True Anchit
All quiet on the Western front is not only taking it all and well deserved to Netflix and the Germans, but they stole 2 Oscars that Babylon deserved, both in best production design and best soundtrack.
F for Babylon
Deserved

I think it should’ve went to The Fabelmans
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Oscars From Best Production Design 2025 Robbed To Avatar 3

I'm surprised Babylon didn't win here.
Babylon deserved that Oscar more than anyone. 😭😭😭
Recreating the Hollywood of the 20s is not an easy task. A robbery was that award. 😡😡
Yeah true
Babylon fanboys crying lmao
I wish Black Panther Wakanda Forever was nominated in this category.
Me too.
Con todo el respeto respeto p qué facilidad tiene para ofender al por ustedes
Babylon Robbed 😒😒
True and I agree for Production Design not Score
Yeah i know
Nope, it wasn’t… AQOTWF deserved it more…
Well Babylon swept that award all season
@@gauravw6947 it’s opinion I never seen both of them
Babylon should've won
It's a movie set in muddy trenches...
And remember that Production design doesn't mean sets. And, btw, the trench was amazing.
The sets are nice indeed and I thought the film was great but how did it win Production Design? Against Babylon?
@@definitelynottommywiseau3037 Because production design are not only SETS. It means design of the whole film. The props, the tanks, the arms were part of the production designer job too and the design of the tanks would have got my vote.
Babylon should have won
Should have been
Beast
Elvis
The Fablemans
Avatar The way Of Water
The Black Phone
Winner The Black Phone
Babylon should have won🙃
Undeserved win

I think this academy knows nothing about cinema
This win makes no sense and was most probably bought by Netflix lmfao.
Not deserved Oscar. Babylon or Elvis were better options
