Loads of talent who remained in Shirley's shadow through the 1930s. That scene with her and Al Jolson in The Singling Kid is priceless.

Such a nice lady we used to chat on IMDB back when they had the message boards and through emails. She was such a gracious sweet heart. I cried my eyes out when she died :-(
IIRC she used to go under the online handle wbkid1. She replied to my email where she plugged her autobiography at the time.

Just wonderful! I had seen little tough film, knocked iut by sybil'actin, expessions and dancing. Wrote her name in notes, trying to purge papers and came acoss this interview. Wonderful woman. A delight.

In The Little Princess 1939 after Sara Crewe played by 10 and a half year old Shirley Temple found her father, Captain Reginald Crewe played by Ian Hunter still alive and knocked the amnesia out of him, they went back to the boarding school, rescued and adopted Becky played by 11 year old Sybil Jason as Sara's 12 year old sister and their fortune got restored. The Crewe family then moved to a new home in London, England next door to Ram Dass played by Caesar Romero and his parrot. Miss Amanda Minchin played by Mary Nash got fired and arrested whereas Miss Rose played by Anita Louise married Geoffrey Hamilton played by Richard Greene and they became Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Rose Hamilton became the new headmistress and Mr. Bertie played by Arthur Treacher became a new teacher. All the girls got their presents back and Ermengarde played by Ira Stevens became friends with Sara and Becky.

What an unexpected surprise to fall upon the obscure (to me) cockney chimney sweep from The Little Princess! My favorite Shirley Temple movie! Shirley wrote that Becky was a trial for her as she stole all their scenes together! Loved this. And I so hope Becky was to go on to escape from Miss Minchin's scool in the end... Maybe settle in as the adopted daughter of the nice man with the bird who lived next door to Sara in the attic. Or better, if Captain Crew himself went on to adopt Becky making Sybil and Shirley sisters...

Gary - Now that I re-read your comment, I’m sure you have no idea how much that movie plot differs from the novel. If you ever decide to read the novel, I’ll be interested in your reaction. It is still a great favorite of mine ever since childhood and I re-read it about every five years. When my brother was at least 25, he was bored one day and pulled my copy out of my bookcase to read. He enjoyed it!
GINA, I think I may have read it but eons ago, or maybe not. I would have been interested in it. Am I getting it confused with The Secret Garden which I KNOW I have read?
Shirley's TLP was so heart stopping, dramatic and suspenseful, unlike most of her other vehicles. I remember being on the edge of my seat watching this one with my grandmother. The Shirley Temple Film Festival aired on KHJ channel 9 in Los angeles on Friday nights when I was 10 or 11(?). Must see TV! And then there was Shirley Temple's Storybook where the grown up lady(!) would take parts in such classic tales as The Little Mermaid. But about Sybil...

I adored her and read both of her autobiographies! She did 2 movies with Kay Francis that were wonderful too.

I grew up with The Little Princess. My middle name is Sara so I got the movie for my 8th birthday so it was a regular. I love Sara and Becky 's relationship. I can definitely see Becky's eyes in Sybil even years later.

What a nice lady! And most people hated working with Jolson. I think she's the only one I've heard that has said anything nice about him. Makes you wonder....
Barbara Hale got along well with him, after she did Jolson Sings again she and Jolson did sort of a vaudeville routine promoting the film in certain theaters. Apparently he and his wife were lovely to her, only problem was it was hard to get him off the stage. Even at that later time in his life, the applause and the people still got him and he wouldn't stop performing.
@@cmcb09 Maybe he mellowed with age, but he did mistreat a lot of other people. Deep down he was no doubt insecure.
I just viewed her in I Found Stella Parish on TCM ... enjoyed seeing her in the role of the daughter... a very talented young actress.
What an obnoxious interviewer. Why couldn't he stop interrupting and let her complete her train of thought. But I'm grateful he interviewed her

Sybil was great! But why did they start putting her in short films? The same thing happened with Janet Chapman. Warners did them wrong
سیبیل جیسون به معنای واقعی کلمه بازیگر بود،من تا به امروز بازیگری مثل اون که انقدر طبیعی بازی کنه اونم با اون سن و سال کم رو ندیدم واقعا بینظیر بود
حالت صورت و صحبت کردنش سر صحنه بر خلاف شرلی تمپل که بیشتر مصنوعی بود،کاملا واقعی بود
این ناراحت کنندس که کمپانی فیلم سازی برادران وارنر انقدر راحت اونو کنار گذاشتن
بازیگری بود که بخاطر تک تک فیلماش باید بهش جایزه اسکار میدادن ولی بخاطر نژاد پرستی گذاشتنش کنار
به هر حال بازم خداروشکر که استعدادش کشف شد و من رو بشدت تحت تاثیر قرار داد از نظر من اون بزرگ ترین بازیگر تاریخ سینما تا به امروز بوده و هست و خواهد بود

In that clip of her singing and impersonating Mae West and Garbo she proves, though Shirley Temple was the bigger star Sybil Jason was the better actress. I love her as "Becky" in The little Princess.
I had to laugh as that interviewer is so awful. He was the inspiration for Martin Short's Jiminy Glick. It's a spot on imitation...how obnoxious and intrusive.

Skip E. Lowe was such a troll; always interrupting and getting facts wrong.
