  • Our compost worms travel by air as we set them up for harvest using the migration method. We gathered our food scraps & paper waste on our trip as we flew out west to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon & Zion National Park Utah all with our little composters in tow!
    Check out how easy (or hard) is was to take our shoe box sized worm bin as carry on luggage on an airplane...you won't want to miss this video!
    And if you haven't checkout out @A-V worm farming channel do it now!!
    Epigeic worms or composting worms are fascinating natural composters & fertilizers that are in most homesteaders bag of tricks to make free organic fertilizer & soil amendments as well as fishing bait. If you've ever thought about vermicomposting or composting with worms to make organic fertilizer & natural soil amendments with your plant based kitchen scraps or food waste, this is the channel for you. I have 4 worm composing bins which you can watch from start to finished worm castings on the 4 playlists following each worm bin. The smores were world class!! Especially after all that hiking & almost dying! Yep, you're the CZcams worm farming GOAT!! So many of us have learned so much from your videos...I hope this migration works well; I know I have to have patience, but also check on it at regular intervals so the worms don't eat all the food then go back into the castings...especially with how small the bin is. Lots of unknowns, but I have your videos to fall back on! Thanks so much for stopping by to watch AV!!🪱🪱🪱

Both Autumn and I decided that was the last time we were gonna do such a crazy hike😂 There was a lot of talking to myself outloud to calm myself!! I am amazed how open they let you get to the cliffs of the Grand Canyon...some spots have chains to warn you, others are just wide open, both with sheer 1,500 ft drops!! But is was fun nonetheless!! I like things that are original, your traveling worm bin is soo cool. I like the way you even got it down to the max population the bin achieves, no matter how many worms you start with.

    Hey Patrick and Executive Producer! I'm from Hawai'i and just wanted to let you folks know that we have strict environmental laws. A lot of seeds, plants, and animals can't be brought over, including red wigglers. We have to go through local vendors here to get them.
    Love the channel and learning a lot. I just started vermicomposting this year after years of using other composting methods. I feel like I'm ready for the living creatures now haha.

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  Před 22 dny

      Thank you for mentioning that!! I've flown to Hawai'i several times on vacation & during my time in the Air Force and remember the extensive paperwork questionnaire and Ag inspections. Yep, my worm bin will just be visiting US CONUS...I didn't bring it to Brazil back in December: czcams.com/video/CExmTGmbxR0/video.html for similar reasons but I was surprised they didn't have more extensive paperwork and inspection like I see going to Hawai'i. You live in the perfect place to have a worm bin in my opinion! Steady temperatures year round, multiple growing seasons in one year & sooo much material to compost!! You are more than ready to compost with living creatures!! Let us know how its going!! Thanks so much for watching Lance!!🪱🪱🪱

    • @lancedance2239
      @lancedance2239 Před 20 dny +1

      @Vermicompost thank you for the encouragement! Before I got to your channel, I created a small 3-tier worm bin, around the size of your tiny worm bin, that stays under the kitchen sink. I used transparent plastic containers to see the worms move around, eat, and crawl up and down between tiers. I feel like a kid in science class haha. I'm also starting a Vevor Worm Bin, pretty much the same as a Vermihut, that will be used in my garden.
      Hawai'i has great climate for all kinds of gardening and farming but you'd be surprised of how little we do here to sustain our environment. Tbh, those forms they make you fill out are simply made to check off boxes for the state to say they're actually doing something but we still have a lot of invasive species coming into the islands (plants, Animals...people lol jk). Compost worms are also sooo expensive here. We have 1 or 2 authorized sellers on O'ahu and the cheapest I could find was 1lb of red wigglers for $160 💀. Living sustainability is expensive here unfortunately.
      Sorry to make this a long comment but I also wanted to say that my dad was a F15 fighter pilot in the Air National Guard. I saw that you retired from the Air Force. Thank you for your service and thank you for your amazing work on CZcams!

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  Před 18 dny

      Plants, animals ...people😂🤣😂 $160 per pound, that is crazy!! I'd be tempted to try to start with 10 bait worms! I would love to have a clear worm bin to watch them!! That is so cool your dad was a fighter pilot! I was a KC-135 pilot, air refueling F-15's and other airplanes. One of my most rewarding missions was actually an aeromedical evacuation of an wounded Hawai'i National Guardsman...before customs even got to our plane his buddies from his unit busted on to our plane to greet him and give him hugs...normally we can't even open the doors until customs arrive. Lots of great memories there!! Thanks so much for the kind words!!
