My New Favorite Spot || Exploring Eastern Oregon

- The PNW is mostly known for its lush green scenery and typical moody/rainy weather. But did you know there's plenty of desert as well?
I've had this spot on my list for quite some time, and I've finally had the chance to go explore it. In Eastern Oregon lies canyons and desert that straight up looks like SW Utah. And here you'll find a special place called Leslie Gulch in the Owyhee area.
I only had one good day of weather, but I'm so glad I did because this place is meant to be seen with warm golden light illuminating the red rocks. Plus this place is not well known, and very "off the beaten path".
I highly recommend checking this place out sometime to avoid the crowds! This trip also kicks off my spring roadtrip to the SW, so subscribe for next week's adventure!

I've spent a lot of time in Leslie Gulch over the last 40 years riding the trails on motorcycles and flying my ultralight. One of my favorite areas of Oregon. Next time you're there I recommend driving over to Three Finger Gulch and taking a hike. High clearance vehicle required but the canyon walls are spectacular. Early summer is best when the grass is tall and green. There are caves, a very old rock corral, and thousands of birds nesting in the cliffs. Just don't tell anyone about it!

I LOVE Leslie Gulch. Also just visited there for the first time this year. Loved it so much went back again a few months later with my brother and his wife. So scenic!

Photographer's paradise, for sure. When I first photographed Leslie Gulch in 1965, I couldn't believe it was part of eastern Oregon.

I have a book written by a woman who lived in the area over 100 years ago, it's incredible the things she says about it from the prospective of someone that lived before the road was even there!

I was grew up in John Day and covered most of that country back in the 70's. I think that is the area I remember seeing Mountain Goats when we were heading through Leslie Gulch on our way to Owyhee Reservoir. I don't know if they are still around, but I heard they had been re-introduced in a number of areas at some point in time.

went out there and explored all of the eastern state a couple years back, leslie’s gulch is nice! and especially camping out in the high desert gives you fucking amazing views

Went to Leslie gulch 30 years ago,not another human there.most Oregonians had never had never heard of it.
