- The Rumjacks are a punk rock/celtic folk band from Sydney, Australia.
Formed in 2008 by Frankie McLaughlin (vocals) and Johnny McKelvey (bass), The Rumjacks combine a variety of musical influences, including elements of punk rock and traditional celtic folk. The band wasted little time releasing their debut EP Hung, Drawn & Portered quickly followed by their second EP 'Sound as a Pound' released later in the year.[1] The Rumjacks never a work shy group quickly developed a strong local following, through their constant touring and energetic performances they became a must see group of the Sydney and Australian music scene. With their strong local support and burgeoning international awareness the Rumjacks quickly secured international supports with punk legends U.K Subs, GBH and Gypsy punk legends Gogol Bordello amongst others.

Can you believe I didn't care for the Rumjacks the first several times I listened to them? This and Fistful of Roses made me see the light... these guys are great!

as a lifelong Plebe i know exactly what they're saying. life in servitude of the "higher class" is like a surreal nightmare yet glimmers of humanity remain in us no matter how they snuff us. from escaping homes whos rent we can't afford in the dead of night(flittin) to out doing ourselves with A master's artisan skill only to see that beauty turned to shite. (not speaking figuratively if you actually work in a scullery) a very deep song .

Definately Celtic style shanty, not irish as it also includes scottish slang and even hogmany. Good tune though.

I'm not a native english speaker. I don't understand most of the lyrics when I heard it. With written lyrics, I still don't understand most of it. But who cares? You know good music when you heard it. Not when you understand it.
A bunch of it is irish and Scot slang
Basically it's an old style chanty about 2 people sleeping homeless. In the lyrics it previously says things like they used to work in good jobs for the upper class but now have nothing and a fire they share with each other. Great tune but the meaning is very sad.

To be fair, Ive spoken english my whole life, and have some Irish blood in me. And I can say with all certainty, only the two entities involved in the conversation actually understand each other completely. Its for the listeners to just sit back and enjoy.
