  • if you appreciate my work please leave a comment or recommend my video to any new fans. This is a 10 Part, full-on look at Bjork's almost 40 year contribution to music. It's really been a long time since I've listened to any of her music, so editing this gave me a great excuse. It was strange at first not hearing her for so long, her voice is almost abrasive compared to many other female singers. It takes a little time to get used to her, but It didn't take long to realize what I liked about her. I got hooked on her voice again and get sucked right back into her music world.

I saw The Sugarcubes live in Alabama on MTV late one night in around 1988. I felt like everything I ever knew about music was changing right before my eyes. I tried to explain this other-worldly performance to friends and family but there were no formulations of words that could describe it. It was kind of frustrating like trying to describe your first kiss. All I could say was "just wait, you'll see her, I promise. Remember her name, . . . It's Bjork". Your documentary is a monumental tribute to a monumental talent. Such a gift. Thank you so much.

WHO is so perfectly and wholly themselves?

First found Bjork back in the 80's, had a musical epiphany that's lasted a lifetime. Different generation now, "who's Bjork", or worse, "that's weird". Not much interest in what one could call "avant-garde". But she can still pack a stadium so it won't disappear, that's not possible.

I started to appreciate her just this late March. I was kind of avoiding her when comparisons were drawn between her and my favorite artists like Lorde, sonically. Interviews were popping up on my YouTuve recommendations; the first one being the TV interview. Then, a few songs. What made me start listening to her was when Spotify, along with Grimes, released a playlist called "Ethereal", and one of the songs there was Hyper-ballad. At first listen, I was blown away by how raw the emotions were with her awesome voice, but especially, because of how it sounded familiar. It astounded me how that song was from the 90s, but it felt like I was just listening to the usual songs I've been listening to in the 2010s. Now I'm here appreciating all her work and getting to know her, and maybe honor her too.
Björk is definitely not going to be forgotten.

And it's amazing how apart it is from me, which was born and raised in Brazil, and how close it is at the same time. Her voice is amazing. Her songs touch me somehow. I guess it touches the universal and human part of my soul. And I like it. Very good video made about a very very special human being. Now I think I feel compelled to learn and hear more about her. The Sugar Cubes. Byork's voice is so sweet and natural. and passionate! From Iceland! Such a small community.
I am from the UK. How can I understand the nature of Icelanders? The culture, the nature, the lansdscape, the
history of Iceland? I can't get enough of that. You have fairy's, Elves, Pixies! Byork expessed all that! And she still does!

Just an amazing woman. There are so many layers and yet, she hates to be peeled. Tremendous arrangements and such a distinct voice. Though I never really bought her albums or watched her videos, I find her to be extremely gifted. Artistry comes in so many different forms and music is just one of many. What she does is not really music; it's like a cacophony of different sounds and so many non traditional, pop musical instruments. Yes, she has an attitude. The video of her attacking that female reporter in Thailand; that's Bjork. It balances her innocent looking face when she's behind a microphone. That is her true legacy. Her talent was WAY ahead of it's time. Probably one of the most interesting and fascinating artist's to have ever walked this Earth. I respect her.

Thom Yorke describing Bjork is the best thing I've ever heard. Also Bjork is the first person to get me to listen to a complete album without knowing one lyric (except for Can't help loving that man of mine) what an amazing being. Still not 100% she's human.

6:26 You can hear her promise as a singer in that excerpt from "Fool on the Hill", where she also played flute and recorder I believe. Even in the other songs, although some of them are rather twee, you know that you're in the hands of an instinctive performer with great musical gifts.

I couldn't imagine what it would be like to grow up in a place so isolated, so homogeneous and so culturally unique. It's not really european or north american and were cut off from the rest of the world for a long time and the self sufficiency must of imbued a deep sense of independence and pride. Bjork's music is so unique and different than anything else and I'm sure growing up in Iceland contributed greatly to that uniqueness. Even when her music is dark it is never depressing or sad to me and I think that accurately reflects a culture that despite winters that are brutally cold and dark for months on end are in general a happy, healthy and successful people. They are used to the darkness and persevere.
