Sona Jobarteh is the first female Kora virtuoso from a West African griot family. First in a tradition that is several centuries old, in which the Kora mastery was exclusively passed down from father to son. Since the release of her album 'Fasiya', she is justifiably praised, both as an instrumentalist and vocalist.
Live, she is accompanied by four musicians.

I don't know the African Language But SONA's music very good. I was searching the international music and I found this lady. She is leading the International Music. I am from India.
She is from The Gambia and the language is call Manding
No mandinka. In manding language we have (bambara,dioula,mandinka,malinké etc)
There’s no such thing as an African language similar to how there’s no one specific Indian language. I’m African too but I don’t understand her language because we have over 2000 languages

Whenever I listen to Sonia, I keep wondering why we pick up arms to attack peaceful individuals when God has given us so many instruments to peacefully occupy our minds and praise Him. I still admire the confidence of this lady while skillfully playing the KORA!

I recently 'discovered' Sona Jobartehs music and I am hooked. Love the amazing playing by all the band members, such a tight uplifting sound. I'm now working my way through her impressive back-catalogue. Would love to see her in Aotearoa / New Zealand one day!
