Recording My Own EEG for the First Time! (4 channels) 🧠😄

  • In this video I record my own electroencephalograph (EEG) for this first time! For this EEG I used 4 electrodes, not the usual full 10-20 system. My brother and dad programmed the computer to pick up my brain waves with a few electrodes. I talk about the basic EEG concepts of posterior dominant rhythm (PDR) and show different artifacts. Can you talk more about the equipment - what each piece is and how it's connected please?

      @@PaisagemPlural I have a circuit board to convert the analog to digital signal. Also some prep (like exfoliating soap), conductive paste, and electrodes. Can email me if you are looking to buy the supplies for a DIY EEG recording. jared@aioneeg.com

      @@jaredbeckwith I would like to buy and built a machine like this, you have a very inspiring story, and maybe I will study like you, in order to work with this. I am already studding biology.
      But I'm also interested in not only measuring brain waves activity, but change them. Can you make a video about this?
      Right now I don´t have enough money to buy it, but every knowledge you share here is infinitely valuable. I also read many books of the collection of Jung.
      Thank for answering and please, if you can, make a video on how to use the eletrodos in order to change the waves, to produce a theta state, for example...
      A big hug from Brasil!

      @PaisagemPlural Awesome! I am going to start selling the full brain recording kits for $995 starting in August. I’m also a big fan of Jung and Freud. Changing the brain waves is a field called “neurofeedback” I think you should search videos about that. I’m mostly familiar with EEG for epilepsy detection. If you’re interested in theta waves, you can see them in deep sleep (stage III). Best wishes my friend!

    Fantastic review! I appreciate the depth and review that you went into using EEG electrodes and testing them on yourself. It's fascinating to see that we can get an insight to our brain waves without expensive EEG amplifiers that costs thousands if not more. I'm also curious about using EEG electrodes during sleep to understand the structure of sleep and REM sleep. Thanks for sharing your review and knowledge!

      Hey thanks for watching, I had fun recording my own EEG. Here’s a video I did reviewing an EEG during sleep I think you’ll find interesting: czcams.com/video/GkVclKIkcHI/video.html

      I got the hardware from OpenBCI. Here’s the minimum stuff you need:
      1. Ganglion 4 channel board (acquires signals)
      2. Ganglion dongle (connects to computer)
      3. Electrode adapter (let’s you plug in electrodes to board without headset)
      4. Electrodes
      5. Conductive paste
      6. Electrode gel or Nuprep

    Personally, I'm working with the ADS1263, and trying to connect it with the ESP32. Do you guys have any kind of reference or documentation for this? Can you help me .

      I’ve never worked with ESP32 before. Right now I’m troubleshooting a different board with 32 channels.

    Oof just saw the prices for Ganglion etc. It would be so cool to be able to do this at much lower cost with Arduino/Raspberry Pi.

    • @jaredbeckwith
      @jaredbeckwith  Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah even things like Ganglion are still expensive for only 4 channels. I’m trying to build my own board to record the full brain 32 channels under $1k

    Is it possible to make a device like an antenna that can pick up the brain waves from a short distance like maybe 1-6 ft away instead of connecting electrodes on the head?

    • @jaredbeckwith
      @jaredbeckwith  Před 8 měsíci

      It’s difficult to pick up brainwaves without it connected to your head. Scalp electrodes still have to pick up signals underneath the skull and multiple layers of skin. You may be interested in magnetoencephalography (MEG) which hovers slightly above the head, picking up magnetic fields of the brain’s electrical activity
