The TLDR of the situation is that Ranboo is being mind controlled by Dream while asleep, but when he wakes up he has no memory of the things he's done. It leads to, as my original comment states, a psychological horror show of epic proportions.
imagine while tommy is walking past the prison looking for dream (escaped) he hears this song softly coming from the prison entrance getting louder everytime he tries to go farther away from the prison :)
