- Every 4,000 hours of flight time we perform a detailed corrosion inspection on our aircraft. This inspection was performed on a SurfAir Pilatus PC-12 manufactured in Switzerland.

There needs to be more A&p guys like you . Someone who's happy to be there giving 100% in everything . Seems you really enjoy aviation.
As someone who works in the industry, I just want to say thank you for going by the book. I've seen so many mechanics that cut corners. I know many of them that would have blended the corrosion on the actuator, hit with some anti corrosion, and never thought anything else about it all to save a dollar. Could that actuator work fine and the corrosion wasn't that bad? Correct, but it wouldn't have been by the book. As you stated, the manual says that if there's any corrosion...and you handled it beautifully. Thank you for your attitude and leadership.
Lead by example! Thank you for the kind words.
these vids are very interesting to watch and it's really great that your company allows you to do this! keep up the great work!
Garret R they are certified by the FAA, before they had jobs at Surf, they had to satisfy an FAA examiner...the company doesn't "let them" the company NEEDS them to do this work.
BLAMBERRY i dont think thats true.. You don't see many channels like this AT all for a&p technicians. But hey what do I know
I’m a kid at school trying to get my A&P and love watching both your videos. it’s nice how you to make a great team. I watch your videos and I learn a lot from them 👍🏼👌🏽
" team work makes the dream work "
Thats what she said
Outstanding work and I love the details, no fact is too obscure!
It's great to watch great technicians I really, really miss using my A&P license I had a great time at it, watching you guy's brings back a lot of good memories!!
You have a one of a kind channel. This will be a game changer. Remember we can never have to much information. If you could hold the camera on those bad areas just a little longer that would be great. Please keep the videos coming!!
You guys are a great team.
sick videos man!!! love it
Very interesting guys. You seem to enjoy your work and your team. . Well done.
I'll Love to work with these guys, I'll learn so much.
Great job guys
Nice video James!!
Man, great videos! The tool recommendation is also much appreciated. If possible it would be great to see more tool recommendations and reviews pertains to aircraft maintenance. Regards from Moscow!
Cool valve stem cap tool!
Awesome.
thanks for sharing guys... really cool ...Happy New Year
nice video - fron france
Crazy to see you guys do all that work for a tiny bit of white powder on a tiny part buried deep in the tail. Great job noticing the details and fixing it
Pretty funny when you put it that way...
Nice safety harness ;)
I would have loved to have worked with you guys. I watched these videos before A&P school and now after being in the field for 2 years I still watch them. But now I actually understand what is going on.
That's just awesome Brian. Where are you working?
James Sullivan I work at Teterboro airport in NJ
809, it’s Agnus! Just missing seeing Peppe and Nate Sosa haha!
I work in the company that produces the structure of PC-12,
Yes it may be tight do it because of its size but rather fun
Thats what she said lol
Hope this means you are back even though I've seen it before. Still interesting
Cool video! Thank you. I've subbed...
Surprised you guys are allowed to film like this at work, thankful for it though!
Question: Can you fly?
👍👍👍👍
hi right now I'm studying to be a diesel mechanic, just curious what kind of training you've been through and where. you guys do some really interesting work and I'm jealous!
I'm about to start my a&p Program at Spartan here in Riverside. It'd be cool to possibly work with you guys I live in so cal
Hey man, just stopping by to tell you to keep up the great work, found a new subscriber! You mentioned a bike in another vid, what are you riding? Must be great in California, the weather you got there seems a lot nicer than here in Germany ;)
Thanks! I'm riding a 1986 Kawasaki 454 - it's a fixer upper but a lot of fun to ride
That's cool, I ride a Kawasaki myself, a '78 KZ1000. Fixer uppers are cool, really great feeling when you finally turn the key for the first ride after assembly - have fun with it and ride safe!
So what happened with this channel? Seems to have been quiet for a bit now. What a shame. It has excellent content.
He became a pilot.
Most likely they got fired or in trouble for filming while they should be working. Not trying to be a jerk by that statement, but I've been an aircraft mechanic for 25 years and filming yourself while working wouldn't fly at just about any place.
No hard feelings! It was approved by our management so no issues there. I'm working as a pilot now and Vince is working for a different outfit out of Van Nuys. We're both doing well!
@@JamesSullivans I’m glad to hear that. Best of luck in your new endeavors! Maybe you can continue your channel on your new career path as a pilot.
I really regret seeing that’s all that holds the horizontal on. Next time I’m in moderate or better turbulence I’ll be thinking of that.
Rest assured, it is an EXTREMELY strong component. And, because it is considered a critical component, you bet your ass the A&Ps take great care of it.
I had a Kawasaki BUT he refused to carry me on his back anymore.
Lol what a poor sport
My only complaint is I couldt see the corrosion because it was moving around, basically unsteady and not long enough. It's like see here and here but you get .01 seconds to see it. So, I'll just take you're word for it. So surface corrosion is a down squawk? What is Pilatus going to do with it? NDE, paint and send it back? I'm surprised you can't do a dye pen and return to service. Be safe, have fun.
7:30 is the paint on the replacement part a good thing or bad thing?
good thing helps protect against corrosion
Did one of your pc12 just has a crash due to engine failure ?
suuuuub :)
Just curious, do you know how much fuel it takes to do one of those little plane swaps? Starting the engine and running it for just a few minutes. Imagine it isn't a lot but I'm not a planeman
It takes about 2-5 gallons depending on the taxi clearance we receive
Yowza, that is more than I would have expected. Thank god for an unlimited number of dead dinosaurs yeah? Or is jet fuel not from dinosaur blood?
Totally Dino blood.
How much do you make
And now we know why the operating costs of planes are high!
hey you guys should also show paper work part of the job
That's the boring part and I worry a little bit about liability. You're right though, it's just as important as the actual work
James Sullivan i know right. Anyways i love your videos. Going through my apprenticeship atm and i watch your dedication to the aviation industry, you inspire young people like us. Anything is possible.
Is it really corrosion ? It looks like a typical small paint/lacquer loss without any infuence on mechanical properties or flight safety (mayby I'am wrong).
It was really corrosion. I should have done a better job filming it.
James Sullivan Small "damage" and a lot of cash for new spare part...
Warranty for this one ;)
James Sullivan What was the total flight time for the replacement ?
Just under four thousand hours. Like I mentioned in the video the actuator we installed has a newer corrosion preventative paint in that area. I also reached out to Pilatus to confirm the rest of our fleet has the new design. That actuator gets removed for overhaul every five thousand hours anyways so just a little early.
need to talk to you i'm looking for a deal on four of these!
Fail safe bolt, how cool
you can fly after you get A&P?
Nah that's separate training!
I used to think.. airlines provide tools
Does your employer ever worry about any of these videos surfacing during possible litigation? I note that you never seem to show, or emphasize reference to a MM when performing a procedure, or conducting a functional test, much less having work inspected and the paperwork signed off.
its a video for entertainment purposes. 12 hour days cut to a 10min video...

4:14 maintenance is missing it's T >.< hehe... =)
Miles, stop sitting so close to the screen or you'll burn your eyes out. -Mom
