We're doing a 125cc TURBO swap! czcams.com/video/BkHVaRDEAlY/video.html
The thrust bearing inside the turbo requires oil pressure to keep the impeller shaft floating in a film of oil otherwise it contacts and wears
Depends if it’s ball bearing or bush
@feelincrispy7053 both designs still need an oil feed
weld a nipple on the cap and pressurize it, remove cap for oil change
Journal bearing chra requires unimpeded flow, ball bearing NEEDS a restricted orifice ( on a car).
This is almost certainly a journal bearing chra , and won't even spool correctly without proper flow / slight pressure inside the chra, and 270 thrust bearings( like this one probably): are even more dependent than a 360.
Either way, the oil flow is also 1000% a necessity to not burn oil and coke up the bearing.... As all oil burns at turbo temps.
The video guy is confusing the oil supply requirements as being similar to a roots blower.
It's like building an engine without rings.
You can do it, and it'll run.
Maybe even for 30 whole minutes.
will filling it up to the near top thread, then screwing the bolt in, pressurize it?
I agree the turbo placement looks awesome, but you'd probably find it more efficient bolting it to the intake. That'll give room for the expansion chamber, while offering instant response.
I definitely agree with this, but it looks so damn cool 😅. We’ll re engineer some of the setup on the next vid and see how it goes 👌🏻
A small oil cooler etc used as an intercooler will help
The turbo needs the exhaust for scavenging, then the compressor goes into the intake. If he didnt strap it to the exhaust, it might spin but wont make positive boost.
@@cxbra Pretty sure he meant to have the expansion chamber before the turbo
Put nitrous on it
Every engine needs a expansion chamber tuned to its timing and rev range an displacement you can do your search.
Thanks 😁🤙🏻
truth. Once he learns its gonna be a drug to him. Each pipe has a diff result.
its the other way around?
I can't believe this actually WORKED?! 🤣Should we do a part 2 with boost gauge etc? We need to paint the frame too 🤔
Yes part 2 please love the exhaust lol
Yes bruh! do both the paint and the boost gauge
Soo totally need to give it a bov ha ha. Love it ❤
Yes so keen for part 2!!!!!
YEAH, I WISH I HAD ONE
I used to get into 2 stroke rc cars, I would think a bigger expansion chamber would help. You could maybe loose the gasket under the cylinder to get a little more compression (use some goo instead and check the piston isn’t going to touch the top of the cylinder). Not sure how the clutch works in that thing, in the rc cars they were two half’s held by a spring. We would use a heavier spring so the clutch would engage at higher rpm’s. 🤷🏽♂️
Amazing suggestions! Yep the clutch works the same as you’ve explained and I can in fact get heavier springs!
@@itsmikelakemight need lower gearing?
Hpi baja ..
A turbo 212cc 4 stroke would be even more insane! And tap a inlet and drain like that go to the bottom of the block in the oil "sump". Since 2 strokes dont have an oil sump, you couldnt get any heat relief from the hot oil inside the turbo. With. 4 stroke you would even be able to add an oil cooler in theory (which would cool the MOTOR down from the high pressure intake AND the turbo). Im surprised it worked using the same fueling as it did with n/a. Wow VERY cool many!!
So good, I saw your thumbnail the other day, so Sunday morning got into the garage and finally welded my LCA to my 50cc drift quad. Still need supports and then chop the frame for the seat. But getting there. Love the tiny turbo!!
Good job busting the myth of being able to turbo a 2 smoker. Me and my dad did it to a twin cylinder 440 jag smowmobile about 9yrs ago. It definitely works and definitely makes power! Awesome job man. New sub from me.
Thanks bro! Yep, I’m the type of guy that just gives it a crack regardless of what the internet says haha. Turbo snowmobile would be so good 🤣
@@itsmikelake it was a for sure ripper man I wish I had video of it 🤣 thanks for replying my man! Keep killing i!
Another killer vid mikey!! Cheers mate, looked super fun!
Thank you bro! Fun little rig 😁
Mike lake you savage! Look at how many like this video has!!! Bro I’ve been a sub since the bmw swapped, supercharged Corolla! You have grown my boy and my man I am so proud of you! Don’t stop baby don’t stop! Love from Nz
If you'd want to make a 2 stroke exhaust that actually works well, you'd have to use a 2 stroke exhaust "tool"/calculator to get the correct measurements for the exhaust.
I was looking at these online! We’ll upgrade the exhaust next vid 😁
@@itsmikelake cool! I'm looking forward to it👍
The homemade expansion chamber is not very good because the shape, curve, length and every other factor has to be considered for it to work. They are specially designed so that the exhaust gasses push any remaining fuel from the exhaust back into the cylinder. I suggest you get an expansion chamber of like a 50cc 2-stroke moped and use that. Expansion chambers can like triple the power output at high rpms.
100% this. Every mini moto I've built for more power, the engine mods did virtually nothing but put a Leo Vince TT chamber on and the engines instantly come alive
Indeed. 1/3 of the power comes from the pipe. The rest comes from compression, intake/carb and porting.
I randomly got hyped for this video. I'm so curious!
Yes you can turbo 2 strokes.. I live in lake havasu city, az, USA and I've turbo charged so many 2 strikes even in the 125f degree weather and they love it. Remember to use a 2 cable throttle cable so it dosent run away from you
This is what I like to hear!
depends on the TYPE of 2 stroke your putting forced induction on.. but mostly your just blowing the fuel charge strait out of the exhaust..
You can’t add forced induction to a two stroke, it’ll blow right through. A four stroke, they’re made for it.
@@chrishenniker5944 again it depends on the TYPE of 2 stroke.. snowmobiles have an intake valve
Expansion chambers on 2 strokes can't just be guessed at. There as important as tuning a cars ECU. Length of pipe between the carb and chamber, Chamber to turbo and exit. Cool little build. I've built many.
I’ve certainly learnt this with this build 😅. Cheers 👊🏻
I worked on tiny 2 strokes for years just out of my garage and the biggest and best horsepower upgrades were aluminium motors with bigger carbis top speed 80km an hour with my worked 50cc iron and 95km with the 73cc iron but over 110kmph top speed with aluminium lighter has such a significant effect when so small
That’s so fast 😅. I’ll do my best to get as higher top speed out of this one 😁
@@itsmikelake good thing would be getting more traction for faster drifting then wouldn’t it
I’m great at tuning those engines! I want to build one now
Very cool looking forward to future progress with this
Cheers! Part 2 drops tomorrow 👊🏻
Oil cooler, diesel fuel pump, very light weight oil, and oil catch can. Also a 12v source to power the fuel pump. Fill the catch can with oil. Bottom drain of catch can goes to fuel pump. Fuel pump, pumps the oil through the turbo. Drain of turbo runs to oil cooler inlet. Outlet of oil cooler goes to top port of catch can. Since you are adding a 12v source to power the fuel pump you can also add a small 12v oil cooler fan to the oil cooler.
you can definitely turbo a 2 stroke if your carb is a float bowl type you need to feed boost into the carb vent if its a diaphragm type its not necessary
This is the EXACT type of info I’m looking for. Thank you 😁
May God Bless And Be With You All Throughout Your Journey And All Throughout All Of Your Time Building Cars 💙
Haha that's awesome love flutter ❤ good work mate that's what life about having fun just giving it a go 😎✌️
Thank you my friend haha. Fun was certainly had!
Happy trails, Cowpoke
🤣🤣
You need an external oil system or the turbo won't last. I give it a couple of days before it lets go. There needs to be oil pressure in the bearings in order for the shaft to not come in contact with them. They need to float in oil not just sit in stagnant oil.
Yeah that’s something I’m currently trying to sort out 🤔. I have a few ideas. I wanted to figure out if the 2 stroke would even accept boost first before sorting the oiling stuff 🤙🏻
That’s correct under normal operating circumstances! but for this motor being suspended in oil with will work,And for a lot longer than you think! it’s submerged in oil! It’s not the same as in normal operation on a larger motor running out of oil!
@@needmoreboost6369 apparently you are confused on how a journal bearing turbo works. Filling the cartridge with oil doesn't work. For starters the cartridge is not airtight there is a way for the oil to escape on both the compressor and the turbine housing. Secondary the oil needs to be pressurized or the bearings will come in contact with the turbine shaft. It is the same with any motor operating a turbo in fact in the case of a single cylinder engine it is even worse than a multicylinder engine due to pulsating waves of the exhaust pressure. Spinning the shaft at any speed will make it come in contact unless there is pressurized oil flowing through it for both lubrication and cooling. Especially with a small turbo that spools up quickly. The passages of the journal bearings are so small that without pressure essentially the spin of the shaft pushes the oil out of them.
@@itsmikelake maybe an aquarium pump with an external oil resevoir
@itsmikelake lol I get the sort one before you sort the other but trust, you want oil going to that turbo asap. I've broken a new turbo before by trying to sort out boost before lube. Not making that mistake again haha
Cool dude this go kart rocks🤘
That's so awesome!!
Thanks!
Hey brother, the only thing I would say is it’s a beautiful thing I would do is one I’ll get a different engine and make it a little bit more powerful I understand you like tiny motors. It’s really efficient and everything else but you’re doing the turbo outside, throw much bigger engine on it For stroke 110 engine so you can get rid of toppers and probably make something a lot better but you do have to worry about the field mixture and everything else then but if you need some help with that. Just talk to me.
Well done lad
It works iv seen it done before. Only issue you have is the oil "you gotta make a oil tank" and I highly recommend some type of intercooler cause 2 cycle builds heat like crazy and your adding a turbo. It's not gonna run good. But if you have a way to cool it down it works grate
If you really want to increase the power, you need to port it. Something like a wieder exhaust port and a higher exhaust Timings. Then you need a different expansion chamber. In general the champer should be shorter, but it must be tuned for your setup. You can also bore out the carburator or get a bigger one.
This, no need for turbo. Just porting, better reeds, bigger carb with proper intake tube and a custom pipe will do the trick.
😂 that's the basic of 2 stroke engine! An expansion! But have to be specific misure!😅 That's not an expansion, that's a swollen pipe!😂
It looks amazing anyway!😎
Good luck!
I’m learning as I go 🤣 but thanks for the advice!
SOUNDS GREAT
Knew you'd love this one Tristan! Haha
That turbo on there looks awesome
Cheers!
I’m bout to pick up the same quad just because of this
thats insane
THIS IS SO COOOOOL :)
Thanks!
i made a small turbo for a rc car and they run like a 2stroke and it worked i was supprised because alot people say you cant turbo them but it seem that you can
I build chainsaws and .020" squish is usually good to boost compression and port work. Nitros works as well. Cheers
Thats wicked you've inspired me!
Cheers Scotty. Bloody good fun!
He did to me to I’m looking for one to build up now
did you play around with the ignitiontiming and colder spark plugs?
OP modification bro 👍💪🥶
Thanks!
Love the sound of it dumping
Same 😍
It sounded like it was edited in
Can you use reed valves on the intake with a turbo? Also you might want to run it slightly on the rich side so it keeps the engine cooler
Mike I love you bro
Love you right back homie!
Nice work. Your not a nob either which is great :) New subscriber.
This takes me back to the time i shaw a turbo gy6 scooter racing and winning against faster cars like whaaaat
Cheers Mike ,, I reckon throw the other carby on the front of the turbo, , twin carb turbo drift cart🏎💨💨💨
STUUTUUSTUUSTUU!🔥
Larger expansion chamber on the exhaust should help it rev a bit more because total exhaust volume will be larger allowing more total exhaust out but at sacrifice of lower rpm and mid range power
Hi Mike, thanks for posting this video
You are very welcome
@@itsmikelake A thousand thanks
Cheers for dropping this on my birthday 👌 few ideas, put a dose pipe on the intake of the turbo, fiddle around with the length and maybe we can hear some vl turbo dose noises coming outa this thing
Also, see of you can hook up a wideband to this thing, its probably leaning out as I imagine the boost will push the fuel out of the carb, maybe add a vacuum line from the charge pipe to the fuel tank so that there is no pressure differential in the carb
Make a new dump pipe where it separates the wastegate opening then have a muffler and a screamer pipe
Im half tempted to go buy a little pocket rocket and try this stuff now 😂
Happy birthday my bro! Haha crazy that everything you’ve suggested is exactly what I have planned 🤣🤙🏻
@@itsmikelake cheers bro! Great minds think alike hahaha
The little waste gate sound is much needed
Epic mate 🤙
Thank you bro 😀
hey mike, the turbo flutter on the 2stroke was pretty awesome lol
Thanks bro. So cool hey 🤣
Hey Mike u will have to change the needle position too to get some more fuel in will run better too since u turboed a 4 wheeler
did you add the boost sound to the video or make it realy the sound ?
You can probably make even more power if you use a real two stroke exhaust pipe from a moped. If you want to make it faster and I would recommend to engine swap it with a Yamaha yz 80 or Honda cr 80 engine and make a shifter drift kart.🤔 Very cool project!
If you think that's sketchy try doing the down hill drift trike on Okemo mountain! VT💪🏻
Haha yep, that's sketchy asf!
lets go mate u told me it would be here today thanks for being honest. great Vid
Thank you bro! Doing my best to pump out quality content haha. Cheers
You should do a meet and great next weekend while im down there.@@itsmikelake
Great job bud...sheesh I had just as much fun watching this vid as you did building it. Where did you get the mini turbo from? I wanna put one on my kit bike.
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it. Link is in the description for the turbo 😁
You should make coloured smoke on the wheels, that would be sick
build an airbox that houses the whole carb, and boost into the airbox, you are having trouble with the pressure differance as its not a blow trough carb. pull the piston out cut it up to remove the piston port and make it reed induction, so that the turbo has more time to fill up the cranckase and cylinder.
a new car. turbocharged motorcycles. I agree that the turbo placement looks great, but you'll probably find it more effective to mount it to the intake. The turbo needs oil pressure to keep the impeller shaft floating in the oil film, otherwise it will become exposed and worn.
ive wanted to throw a turbo on my 2 stroke jet ski this gives me hope it might work
Lol this is so much like my budget drift kart! Same base quad too lol. Ive just swapped a gx200 clone motor. 100$ for 6,5hp
If you can somehow make a smaller exhaust straight pipe it may create more compression I did it to my Yamaha banshee it added compression and sounds good
Nice mate
Cheers Barry!
How does that carb not spew fuel everywhere when the bowl gets pressurized under boost? My understanding is that carb turbo applications need a sealed carb and boost referenced float bowl and/or fuel pressure to contain the boost so it doesn't simply blow the fuel back through the jets into the bowl, which is vented to atmosphere. The only thing I can think is it's simply not even making enough boost to cause fuel problems, which means not much at all considering how little the carb is....any thoughts?
The world's cutest turbo 😂its a key chain bro
Haha exactly right 🤣
I wanna see 2 of these on a little 4 cylinder
My chevy cruze 1.4t 2016 has a 31mm opening on the intake of my turbo, stock
you should have a carbon seal installed in the turbocharger for a draw through carburetor system ideally!
This would certainly be the ideal setup!
Why not get a pump and tank for oiling the turbo not a hard system to build fyi best to put carb behind turbo and using starter fluid to bump it off on first start
i wonder if u could put either daul motor or super charger
Not on topic but I love the z!♥️
Thank you! I’ll be dropping new vids on the z real soon 😁
Look at snowmobiles ya there's Turbo Kit's we put on 2strokes
So good!
Cheers!
I want to see the next episode on this.
Should drop next week 😁
They do turbo 2 strokes.. for snowmobiles.. I suggest u build an oil system for iT with a pump or the turbo won't last
We’ll keep upgrading it as we go 😁
you should get the 19mm carb with the uprated intake for this so the carb isnt a huge restriction
Maybe even 21, unless you want speed then you can go up to 32mm; but it won't be good for much beyond full throttle all the time
you earned a sub from me dude I need a turbo go kart to get around on
Appreciate that homie! I think everyone needs one of these bad boys 🤣
Next video: "We slap a turbo on a ROCKET SHIP" 😂😂
Also i absolutly love that tiny air filter, adorable
i need to buy a mini turbo for my kart too
12V oilpump with a tiny oil cooler should work great
Put a bigger jet in the carb can get a windowed piston for it will go a lot harder
Awesome 😮❤🫡
Cheers!
Will a compound turbo improve performance?
might wanna add an airfilter to the front of your turbo so you dont dust your engine!
rig the pipes get a second mini turbo and make a head light kinda thing it would look sick
2 turbos?! Haha
Cool bro
Thank you bro 👊🏻
¿Que turbo es ese? Por favor el link de compra 🛒!
u should get one of those scooping filers for the turbo and maybe make a better expansion exhaust and intake or probably upgrade the engine like a big bore kit or sum for the turbo to work better cuz i lowkey wanna see the limits of that engine
and if u need a pump for the turbo just make a mechanical pump thats connected to the engine so it would be like a supercharger but a pump and make sure to gear it down too cuz its just a lil pump
I agree with you bro, I’d like to see the limits of this motor also! We’ll be making upgrades, don’t you worry 😁
bigger jets ;) or upgrade from the12/14 mm carb to a 19mm
hey my dude, won't the boost push the fuel back into the fueltank, since a carb works with the venturi effect, what builds a slight vacuum to pull the fuel into the carb?
I have a boost line running to the fuel tank which seems to be working at this stage 🤔
Could you put a oil system of the crank. Tank radiator and pump of the shaft. To cool down the turbo?
More guys. Please. Thank you. Do the Max. Think out of the box guys. ❤
Yes you can turbo 2 steoke.. tell me why it wont work ?
I think I saw ur pink car on the highway on the trailer the other day in Melbourne was it you?
Fill it with high temp grease like the comp oilless turbos
That’s what I’ve done now 😁
