It's a boost. The gain IS the output level. Gain does not mean distortion.
I know the EP is special but I really like what that MXR does!

MXR is a more flexible one. It can be used as a "sound enhancer" and warmer same time. Xotic is not for distorted sound. MXR does amp overdive well.
Depends on what kind of music you're talking about.For more Ambient kind of stuff, probably the EP; for more Alt Rock , I think I prefer the cut and upper mids on the MXR.
Reminds of the diff between the old LPB1 and the Micro Amp; the choice all about style and genre, but, - of course, - anything can go.
Catalinbread gets the Echoplex thing down to a T , for better or worse.Much more going on in that that circuit, - presence, ambience, ,- almost like a short verb or delay.
Awesome playing...the EP is one of my favorite pedals ever, and I also own the MXR. I like the versatility of the MXR, but I don't think it has the same magic.

I am not 100% certain on this, but assuming what Dweezil Zappa said is correct (that EVH used an MXR Micro Amp for a boost), then perhaps the MXR Booster is meant to combined the Echoplex preamp as well as the MXR Micro Amp, similar to what EVH used. That is, however, taking the wireless unit out of the equation, but whatever.

can be use after distortion for solo boost? i meant the mxr.
EP Booster colors the tone too much a a solo boost after high gain. Does MXR do the same? Or is it possible to use it like a normal clean boost?
Well that’s the point of the EP. It’s not a clean boost. It an echoplex emulator.

Mustafa İçil ahhhh! My bad. Sorry. I really like the ep. it’s been on my pedal board for a long time. For clean boost I use a Wampler tumnus, a Klon clone.
