Dave joined the BBC from school in 1971 as a Technical Assistant in the then Television Recording department.
In his 38 year career in telecine and videotape he eventually became a television colourist, grading the pictures on many prestigious BBC drama and documentary productions.

as a BBC Ealing film editor, I was often cutting reversal stock for Panorama. It was always a joy to visit telecine, to Tarrif or grade the film. Bunch of the nicest people in TV. my heart sank if i needed to visit the VT basement, where their was a attitude, we know best and no you cant cut there as it broke some 8 field pal sequence rules. Film dept and telecine seemed staffed by creative types not engineers.
