I was an assistant editor on this film and had a cameo at 5:14 as one of the stoners (on the left) ha! Great review and channel!
That’s so awesome! Thanks for your part in making this! I know nothing about editing but I thought the shift from doc to horror was really well done and I’d guess the editing was a part of that. If you still keep in touch with anyone from this movie, let them know you all made a great film that’s brought me and my partner a lot of joy. Great work!
Thank you, your awesome
This movie is CRIMINALLY underrated.
meh
I feel the same way-some genuine scares and hilarious. And I’m not a huge slasher fan, so I didn’t see most of the Easter eggs, so I have to think it’s better for real fans. But the tonal shifts hurt it, which I get but I thought they did a good job of setting that up and paying it off.
Given that Eugene is so confident and level headed, I think he's supposed to be the Phantom Killer from The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Billy from black Christmas was wayyy too unstable to ever settle down
Rob Zombie should've cast Robert Englund as Loomis in the Halloween remake.
Eww, no
@@raulduke6761 he would have made a better Loomis then the other guy
@@mofftarkin6010 the "other guy"? You mean Malcolm McDowell? McDowell does make a better villian but he could act circles around Englund
I totally agree that Robert should have played Loomis. When I see Malcolm M in a movie, I keep thinking of Star Trek Generations. (the evil scientist that went against Kirk and Picard)
I don’t think Englund would be a better choice than McDowell, he is given a superficially more traditional version of Loomis to essentially be playing here than the loomis of 2007 but ultimately given the same script as one another Englund as an actor is the lesser choice I feel.
In one of the Hatchet movies (i think Hatchet 2) a guy mentions Leslie Vernon in his home town of Glen Echo. So the Hatchet series is also linked to this cinematic universe.
Awsome
David Arson Oh, boy...
“A small reference to another film - they must be connected!!!!”
@@dommoore6180 Lesley Vernon was mentioned by name as a legend
@@dommoore6180 Seeing as the Leslie Vernon universe is a universe where slasher killer actually exist, why can’t they be connected
I’ve been watching you since 2012 and never once have you made me go on board keep up the good work
OMG Leslie's mask is Ghoulash's face!
Where can I find a video of ghoulash?
The intro was enough to make me like the video immediately.
Now we know what really happened when Hershel got drunk back before the walkers appeared.
What a coincidence my friends and I were going to make a crappy found footage film called Behind the Mask. Guess we gotta change the name
7:10 Scott Wilson passed away today 😭
Damn this is news to me. First he gets his head chopped off then this!!!!!! Damn!
:(
Someone said that the backstory behind Leslie Vernon being eaten by turtles is a nod to the ‘I like turtles’ kid. The make up he wears at the end and the mask look very similar to the make up the kid used as well
Leslie Vernon gets a mention in Hatchet 3.
shlockofgod It’s actually Hatchet 2. Close enough....
@@oldfashionedslashin8280 hope you do a tribute to him soon
Love that Oingo Boingo song, hope it stays as the intro for the year of Ahhctober, I’m thinking this is gonna be a good Halloween
Eugene could be the uncaught killer from a town that feared sundown
When watching this film I like to think about all the behind the scenes stuff with the slashers. Like maybe Jason was just a guy that saw the story of a woman going crazy and killing a bunch of counselors and decided to go off from there! And maybe after he hears there was some guy copying his kills he decides to come back in the game.
On a serious note: Congratulations on 71,000 subs! On a less serious but genuine note: I love you and your content. Thanks for everything!
I recognize that song in the introduction from Casper: A Spirited Beginning.
Boingo!!! This has got to be one of my favorite songs ever since the highway scene in Texas chainsaw massacre 2.
Best intro ever thanks dr wolfula
This is how found footage should be. It’s like a damn snuff movie, just terrifying.
I love horror films that pay tribute to other horror films, especially the classics! I can't believe I haven't heard of this one!
Great Review Doc! Looking forward to more Ahhctober! : )
I really hope we get another Leslie Vernon movie
I don't comment much but watch pretty much every review and I can say this is my first Ahhtober to be here for the start of and I've never been more hyped! Thank you for all the great reviews and time you put into this Wolfula
Doc halloran is also a reference to Halloran the groundskeeper from the shining. He's like a mashup of loomis and halloran.
I'm guessing that "Midnight, the Stars and You" playing at 12:35 was a "The Shining" reference, anyone else catch that?
Yes it is
They probably should've just had the final act be the opening of the film and the rest of it being the documentary/found footage style. That way the film would've acted more of a insight on a slasher's life. I think that would help the slasher parts and the mockumentary parts feel more pieced together.
The filming style is kinda like that Phoenix Light found footage film. I like when found footage is broken up with standard filming
More than a decade has passed since its release....God that is so hard to believe. Im getting old.
I actually used this film for an analysis during the slasher lessons in my film class
The end credits with Kane Hodder playing the mortician and getting to meet Leslie (in an unconventional manner) were brilliant. Love this film!
YO! You sound like your old self from phases 1-4 in this video. You're probably all like "WTF" rn but...believe me...there has been a difference in the voice in recent years. Nostalgic video here.
I'm so glad theres an ahhctober this year I was so sad when there wasn't one last year, been watching your channel since 2013 and its grown and i love how more people are appreciating your work. thank you.
And fun fact: Eugene is suposed to we the same killer from black cristmas
I thought I was looking at my new feed thought this was posted March 2020. Then Doc said ahhoctober. I miss ahhoctober there's just so many horror filcks one wolfulight can cover
I haven't seen this one in years. If you get a chance, check out Man Bites Dog, a film that undoubtedly influenced this one. It's a black-and-white mockumentary about some filmmakers who follow around a violent, charming criminal. "Cinemaaaaaa... Cinemaaaaa..."
I saw this movie quite a while back.; I personally think it is fantastic if you like slasher flicks.
That Intro! By god im glad this Showed up on my Recommended list
So jazzed to see you review this, Doc! One of my favorites!
This season has my favorite AHHctober intro
Dang the way he moved his hand at 10:35
I wanted to like this movie a lot more than I actually did
Simply Thank You, I have passed on this movie many times a mistake I will no longer make
This Halloween is going to be the worst because everyone is going to dress up as fortnite skins.
No, sadly you were wrong. There was pretty much no Halloween this year.
i can't wait for his review of the texas chainsaw massacre reboot review to complete his review on TCM: The Beginning .
I love this movie so much. I was hoping you'd review it someday. So glad you did!
I've been waiting this for a whole year, like every year. Keep up the work.
At some point, I'd love if you covered Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, as well as the Final Destination movies.
I remember you mentioning this in one of your videos a while back and I immediately wanted to watch it. I eventually did, and it is probably my favorite found footage horror movie ever. Great, great movie. I actually bought it a couple of weeks ago too. Can't wait to rewatch it for the season.
This sounds really interesting. I might check it out this October.
this has been one of my favorites since i bought it on dvd when it was still fairly new to dvd. It's such a cool take on a horror flick.
This is my favourite opening ever doc
if all of the supernatural elements in these slasher films are meant to be illusions i wonder how Freddy's dream powers work.
I’ve loved that song and Oingo Boingo since I first saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.
Yo doc, have you heard they might be making a Texas Chainsaw Massacre tv series
Ahhthober!!!! My favorite time of year to catch up with the good ol doctor.
Great review Doc ! Personally I liked it , so different from the usual horror flick.
I love the old school music in the intro of each video
I really hope Joe Bob Briggs does an episode on this movie!
This kinda reminds me of How To Be A Serial Killer. I'll have to check this one out.
Love it! Can't wait for the other reviews this year. All of them are favorites of mine (except Halloween 2018, of course, but hopefully its a soon to be favorite). Keep up the good work!
Congrats on just hitting 71K subs!!
I swear this guy has the best intros on youtube.
Great channel, especially this time of year. Need Doc Wolfula to review The Exorcist.
Filmed mostly in Oregon...hell yeah👍🏻
Yeeeeaah Ahhctober is back!! finally! one of the greatest moments of the Halloween season because it starts October 1st and ends maybe November 20th because Doc Wolfula has the power to endurance the Halloween season xD
I miss the 2018 AHHHctober intro.
Lol
this is my first time tuning in for AHHctober as its happening super excited
One of my favorite reviewers reviewing one of my favorite horror movies? Hell yeah.
I tell everyone I can about this movie. Hopefully, your excellent review gets it more attention.
AHHHCTOBER IS FINALLY HERE!!
Wooo, I'm always hyped when I see a new upload of a Doctor Wolfula review!
Happy ahhctober dr woiffula
Scream + Man Bites Dog? Sounds interesting.
Opened the video thinking it was a sequel l to The Mask I hadn’t heard of
I thought this was one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen and I'm quite surprised to see a lot of people like it. Different strokes I guess
I talked to Nathen, they have been are are still trying to get a sequel of some type made.
I heard there were plans for a sequel to this film but sadly they never materialized
the sequel came out in comic book form
I'm not normally a fan of found footage, but this movie does look interesting.
This film is also in the same Universe as the Hatchet series
The movie was pretty good. The ending was the only thing that kinda ruined It for me.
I was bugging thinking why do I know this kelly chick now? She's Lips GF on Shameless since last season.
Amazing! 800 likes and 0 dislikes in 14 hours! Awesome work Doc!
So wait a minute, Behind the Mask has a shared universe connection with Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street?
That's sounds like Billy from black Christmas
I wanted to love it...I just couldn't. Not sure why really, just didn't click with me at all. Might give it another try though, I've had a few movies where a second watch got me to enjoy them.
Paul Dennett didn't grab me either.
Glad I'm not the only one. Bought this after the review and thought it was ok. It had some neat bits, but I think correctly predicting the twist ending took away from my overall enjoyment.
Your newest monthly Patreon! Glad I support a great cause.
I consider Leslie Vernon on par with Michael, Jason, and Freddy.....in his own unusual way.
Never caught that Eugene's wife was his final girl....I'll bet the name "Jamie" was a hint.
I got the scream factory copy of this. So happy to get it.
🎵Let’s have a party there’s a full moon in the sky🎵
Happy AHHHCTOBER!🎃👻
I’ve been wanting to see this review for quite a while. Definitely gonna check it out now.
This have been one of my favorite films since I first saw it back in 2008
Hershel from The Walking Dead is in this.
Thanks for this recommendation. I recently watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a spoof it's probably as good or better than "Shawn of the Dead." Very entertaining.
I haven't seen it yet, but that seems unlikely based on the material in this review. SotD is a genuine classic. This looks funny, but I doubt it meets or exceeds SotD
Love this movie, had the privilege to talk to Nathan, they have been trying to get a sequel off the ground for YEARS!!!
HE'S BACK!!!!
Great movie, one of my favorites! But is it really found footage style? Seems more like a mockumentary. That's why the twist hits so hard, with the shift from meta-commentary to actual slasher horror.
Are you doing anymore Scooby doo retrospectives?
Goddamnit, why do you have to upload this while I’m in class?
