Yes I love the art maybe you should have an movie screen writer just a suggestion
The non -disney classic which is now technically apart of disney.
Nathaniel Foga Funny how things work out, isn't it?
Thumbelina, FernGully, and Pagemaster are now too.
So Disney doesn't have them?
@@TheInkPitOx They belong to Fox. And Disney bought Fox a couple of years ago.
@@Alejandroigarabide I was remarking on his grammar. "Now technically apart of Disney".
This remains to be my favorite Don Bluth film because of the romance and other things that I can't think of right now. And it's good to see someone not giving this movie a "meh" for once. Overall, a good review.
Oh, Don Bluth. Why do your films always get the most atrocious cover art for their DVD and Blu-Ray releases, despite having the most awesome theatrical posters and VHS box covers ever made?
Great observation. I imagine it's because on the original VHS covers, the poster art looks like the animation in the actual movies, which was nothing if not stellar. The DVD editions of these movies sadly came out long after the movies were made and the distributer no doubt didn't feel much motivation to pay to transfer the original over art over to them since it was probably thought the movies were so forgotten anyway, they wouldn't make much money in sales, so why not just have a computer shit out some cheap CGI duplicate animation for the cover. This happens all the time with older animated properties that don't belong to Disney. The distributor figures their is no way they will ever sell very well, so why take the effort and money to give them a nice cover. That might change with Amastasia though, now that it's owned by Disney ironically.
This is and always will be one of my favorite animated movies. It holds a special place in my heart~
Dmitri quickly reformed and became a selfless character, like the Empress. Being blunt - at the beginning of the film I would have said he was sleazy scum - at the end I would call him a good guy that I wouldn't mind my nieces getting to know.
Your imagined version of In The Dark Of The Night immediately made me think of Army Of Darkness and just about anything Ray Harryhousen inspired because of the skeletons, and that definitely does sound awesome to me.
So as other reviews have noted, they *really* gave Rasputin the short end of the stick by making him in that historically he had a postive relationship with the Romanovs, and was by all accounts a devout Christian.
What is interesting is there was gonna be an explaination for Rasputin being evil in his film. In th folder script, Rasputin survived his real life assassination and blamed it on the Romanovs. In fact his introduction scene was gonna have him dripping because he's just escaped the river his body was thrown into.
Christopher Case, Empress Alexandra has a very toxic co-dependent relationship with Rasputin and it destroyed the little positive image the Romanovs had in the public eye. The fact that Nicholas didn’t put his foot down and banish him is what helped bring about the Revolution (two back-to-ones, actually.)
I think a better antagonist could’ve been a revolutionary member who once served in the royal court. Avatar TLA has taught me that kids can handle dark topics like war; provided it’s presented in an understandable way & doesn’t talk down to them.
I never noticed how her hair grew from "learn to do it" to the boat part. Her hair even turned red.
I always thought her dad turned into a demon during the nightmare scene because Dimitri distracted Anastasia into looking his direction, thus breaking the hold the nightmare had over her, not because of anything Rasputin did! Common sense should have made him put some kind of spell over everyone else (including Pooka) so they don't wake up and try to save her
If there really was a curse against the Romanovs, then it was put on them by Marina Mniszech three hundred years prior. Look her up to see what I mean.
We all know the animation will definatly be amazing
Great review, and recognizing the DVD cover at 22:31... I'm looking forward to the next one.
It's The Sandlot, isn't it?
The music holds up better than other Disney competitors.
I find it a bit sad that Miss Potts from Beauty and the Beast is the Grand Duchess, an important character, while Lumiere is here for five seconds. He's only here for a cameo...in the french version. (I forgot if he's here in the english version; it's been seven years since i saw this movie, it's hard to remember everything) Why he couldn't be a character that Dimitri know like a friend? I love Lumiere's voice and his accent is very charming, more than the brown hair man in fact. Dimitri's voice is fine but not as seductive as the living object.
Rasputin is a great villain and is song is amazing, she's so catchy and the lyrics are cool; the music is pretty and i love the guitar parts :D Yeah the visulas aren't as scary but she is still awesome and entertaining!
Bartok is a bit useless. I mean, he's only commenting on what's happening. The bat didn't help his master, he didn't distract Anya or try to attack her so his partner can kill the duchess. I prefer him in his own movie, at least he was proactive and risk his life to save an entire village. Here, Bartok did nothing important or useful XS
Great review of a great film by a great critic
One of my all time favorites!!!
Singing voice for young Anastasia is Lacey Chabert.
Shut up, Meg.
@@cosmicpepe3973 Penny in the 90s Lost in Space movie, Eliza Thornberry in The Wild Thornberries, and Kaycee in the Bratz series.
Awesome review. I adore this movie and I was so glad it got a Broadway musical
Rasputin's song is really cool. Actually the insect infested cave terrify me when i was a kid. It's just too gross.
The credit song though. It's the best song in this movie. Luckily kid me watch even the credit scene because i love this movie too much so i could remember the song and download it when i know CZcams exist.
TRUE but I mean the visualls need to align more
The fact that the movie is a fictionalised version of the 1917 revolution makes it much more interesting to watch.
Also Duchess Anastasia dies in real life, together with her family The Romanovs, murdered by Bolsheviks.
And Alexei joined the KGB!
Under an alias!
Let’s be honest - Barstow is the most complex and interesting villain sidekick in animation with the possible exception of Diago in the first two Aladdin movies.
Awesome Review! You got more subs on the way. My friends loved the video and look forward to watching more from you. Thank you so much for commissioning me~!
This is my all time favorite movie for so so many reasons!
Hey welcome back man. Glad to see another review from you
Anastasia is the best animated movie of all time!
You are not gonna change my mind!
the lady at the ophranage treats her like a joke.
I fuckin love this movie
Perfect review, are you going to do the Bartok spin off movie?
LOVE this movie!!!
I find Anya a bit selfish. She finally found her grandma after years then leave her to be with a guy she barely knows. Yeah that's not sad or anything! Just leave the only person of your family for a handsome guy. It's not like your grandmother could die or missed you! Anya could at least sends letters to her while she's traveling with her lover, guess she won't do it ;(
Good review again.
The bat: "can you hear me misses uhwiggins?"
In other words: Kingdom Hearts form of Kairi without too much WASTED potential...
Ooh this is a good one
Anastasia's grandmother was still alive, so why did Rasputin think Anastasia was the last of the Romanov's?
Rasputin was long dead before the Romanovs actually died
@@1945joshuaruiz I know. I'm talking about the 1997 version of the Anastasia movie. In that movie, Rasputin was undead (like being dead, but still alive). He even claimed, in that movie, that Anastasia was the last of the Romanov family.
Because Empress Maria Feodorovna both in real life and in the movie was married into the Romanov family, she was originally a Danish Princess. Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna was the only descendant left of the ruling royal family and the rightful heir to the Romanov fortune.
I don't mean to sound like a buzz kill, but I'm just realizing that the promise of a reward for find Anastasia back then was actually pointless in reality. Recently, I read an article about her and it said that her remains were found in 2007 (yeah I know, I'm pretty late) and the experts confirmed that her time of death was in 1918, concluding that she did, in fact, die during the revolution. In other words, in 2007, the entire Romanov family was confirmed dead and no descendants could have possibly been born because Anastasia never survived and lived with amnesia. What a letdown. :(
This was a good review.
All I remember about this movie is that I watched it as a little kid and it scared me
Bartok is my favorite character
So he values poetic justice over being smart, yet didn't got for it inhis initial murder attempt and was willing to hold off on it in his other murder attempts.
RIP Angela Lansbury 😢
Oh, hey, the animated movie based inn the story from that lady pretending to be Anastasia, they found the real ones skull years back.
Oh, yeah, my mom loves this movie
Yes! I hate this stupid movie!
The movie is good and all but Anya is a bit selfish. I mean, she abandon her grand-mother after finding her just because she is in love and want to explroe the world with Dimitry. Geez poor Empress! She will be alone and the last person of her family just leaves her for a guy, i feel sad for this women X(
The animation and the songs are what i like the most in this movie, they are beautiful and catchy. Rasputin is a great villain, he's funny and has great powers; he could make a good partner for Hades; theses two will be hilariosu if they worked together XD
For one, she only left after getting her grandmother’s blessing, and judging from her reaction at the end of the movie, the Empress is totally fine with it. Probably because she knows that she was not alone for the last nine years.
Don’t mean to be rude at all, just wanted to share my reasoning with the events of the movie.
I'm in the opinion that Don Bluth's worst movie is still way better than the best Swan Princess movie.
Oh, that... cover art. It's... disgusting. Why can't any of Don Bluth's films get Blu-Ray and DVD covers that match the excellence of their theatrical posters? (All Dogs Go To Heaven aside)
Even All Dogs Go to Heaven once got a *very* creepy (not creepy as in the "cool, awesome, terrifying, Nightmare Fuel" quality Don Bluth movies usually have, but "creepy" as in disgusting) cover for its Blu-Ray release. Good fuck, what were they thinking? It actually made The Secret of NIMH's modern DVD cover look good.
Wait, there was an Anastasia Broadway play, how long ago was that
2016.
Also, Dmitry SHOULD LOOK LIKE A HOT VAMPIRE FROM THE BLACK SEA!🇺🇦🇷🇺☦️🪆🐴🐎🏇
Not a Backstreet Boy!
Well Disney bought Fox
Why does Anastasia sound like Marzia Kjellberg?
God i love this movie soo much
St. Petersberg (Petrograd) was renamed "Leningrad" to glorify the leader of the Bolsheviks, Vladimir Lenin. How the animators never caught that error, IDK.
That seems like the writer's responsibility, not the animators'.
Lots of people would probably still call the city St. Petersburg, not really an error
This movie was great in a lot of ways, but lacked a real villain, and was very predictable.
I do wish you could have made a more in depth review, not just the odd comments and jokes.
20:21 Dmitry/i, not Dimitri!
I love this movie all except resputan
The “Citizen Kane” of animated Disney ripoffs
Um no
Keith Pixton How is it not? What do YOU consider a GOOD Disney ripoff?
I remember when I thought it was a Disney movie 😅
Gracekim1 You were just predicting the future.
@@giovannirastrelli9821😂I guess but I was just a child who didn’t know better 😅
eek that's gross
