Bartley won three from three that day after getting married to Vin Edward's daughter in the morning. He won earlier aboard the 2yo debutant Novacaine for Kenneth Mattis and won the last race aboard Plutus for Cordell Stewart, where he caught Everton Miller aboard Dragene in an F class contest. Loretta's Choice was trained by Michael Mattis. Bartley and Miller had an intense battle for the championship that year and Bartley actually came out on top for a second time after their battle in 1983. The second race saw Kenneth Mattis saddling the top three finishers in David's Star (owned by David Vernon, who was a former track announcer) ridden by Alphonso Henry and carried a mere 83lbs that day, Sky Dancer with Michael Redwood and the late closing Beucephalus with Winston Thompson. Wonderful memories Rohan, big up yourself bro!!!

@RayRay-go5dh Yea bro, I remember Superman. He was owned and trained by Dennis Lee. He won the Jamaica 2yo Stakes in 1980 with Fitzroy Gillespie in the saddle. Royal Dad refused to enter the gates and was a very late scratch. I remember him bolting one day with Bimbo too. This, after holding a seemingly unassailable lead on the rails 100 meters out but soon headed for the tunnel under the stands and dislodged Bimbo in the vicinity of the winner's enclosure. Black Knight (Fitzroy Gillespie) capitalized in the process. Patrick Lyn was a promising apprentice and, like Bimbo and George Hosang, was nurtured by Fitz Crawford. I remember the last race he won too. It was aboard Easy Living in a D class contest in 1992. Lyn was popularly called "white mice." That day I gambled Easy Living too and I remember collecting $6,000+ for my 5 of 6 in the super-six. I failed to spot Lucky Fellow with C. Riley in an F class contest. That's racing!!! Major Lewis (Percy Williams), Zypher Hill (G. Gordon), Rocker's Island (Bartley), Monarch (Fanna) and Easy Living (defeating Bailor with A. Maragh) were the other winners on the super-six. Talk about real racing back in the day bro!!!🙂

Hey I beg to differ Chris hammond epitomizes race commentary he was so verse he could call a 16 horse field spreading across the furlong pole and not miss a beat in the horses name he made race commentary entertaining and exciting

Characteristic finish by Bartley. Who remembers him producing Forceful Native to beat The Moss Agate and Royal Dad in the 1982 Prime Minister’s Stakes?

  • @paggyD2024

Loretta’s Choice (Loretta’s Boy out of Pre Empt) ridden by “Chinna” gobbling them up inside the final furlong to get the win. These breathtaking wins were a hallmark of Chinna’s early career and was described by Chris Armond as the “Magical Touch”. Chinna’s Caymanas Park win % at 22.4, remains 4th only behind HoSang (29.8), Bimbo (24.6) and Fanna (24.2).
I remember, Loretta’s Choice trained by Willoughby Simpson, a tough campaigner winning a number of races for Dave Jackson when he was a hot apprentice in 1985, including one where he bested D’s A Legend and Bartley in a B2 class 7F contest.
