    It's funny to think how an entire category of technology got invented, gained popularity and then became mostly obsolete, within 15-20 years. I say 'mostly obsolete' because you can still buy them. Seriously. -Check Amazon.- I'm sorry - Check your Argos catalogue.
    Portable DVD players were quite good in the days when a laptop would cost £1000 and weigh almost as much, but when your smartphone probably has enough storage for several movies - these days, possibly hundreds - a heavy, flimsy device and a bunch of easily scratched discs somehow seems less appealing.
    Wow. I completely forgot about the asymmetrical screens. I had no idea why they were designed like this back then, but my best guess now is that it was to make space for a ribbon cable spanning an entire edge of the screen. Why couldn't that cable span the bottom edge? ... I don't know.
