I was a bit worried about whole concept of this title as a board game but it seems to be done pretty well. Looks like im going to buy best edition on kickstarter, thanks for great overview!

About 34:00 I thought the reroll does only work for sword die (and not an ranged attack).Great overview anyway - thanks!

It flows really well. The bag building is interesting and you get a lot of options with how to use the tokens right out of the gate which I like. Of course with upgrades to them later on. Combat moves along nicely. Doesn’t bottleneck the experience and if you don’t deal with enemies you quickly have a bunch on you to deal with. Big fan of the low health as it keeps you on your toes too . Have to be careful out there. Playing with two characters introduces some cool synergies too!

This is so sad, I loved the videogame and unfortunately this game doesn't look like that in any form. Looks more like an abstract game with a skin of Children of Morta. No exploration, combat was so dynamic in the videogame, and the map feels like I'd get a single playthrough and then to the forgotten shelf. It had so much potential due to the IP. Anyway, thank you for the video. I love your videos and the way you explain those games!

@@RollingSolo I've been playing A Town Called Despair! It's been such a great game with tons of possibilities hehe. And I wasn't even into competitive games!

It actually quite does to me! I never thought it was going to properly replicate the game's exploration, but the basics certainly look like they are there. The artstyle continues to be gorgeous, the mechanics look really fun without being too technical and in-depth. From what I've seen it looks to be excellent fun with multiple people as well. It was pretty much insta-backed too, so most of us are all liking what we're seeing.
Perfectly understandable that some won't find it to their liking though, so I respect your opinion!

@@willeh1947 I totally respect your opinion too, I think the game without the IP name is still fun. My only problem lately is those games that are "based" on "x" IP and just using the IP name as a way to attract people instead of actually being mechanically like the IP.
For instance, I own SFG's Resident Evil (all of them), Devil May Cry V: The Bloody Palace and Gears of War: The Card Game. I totally loved the first two because you can actually feel the IP influence in the development, is not a generic dungeon crawler with the IP on it's name (in RE's case) or a boss battler (in DMC's case). While other games from them like GoW: TCG and Sea of Thieves: Voyage of Legends looks more like a generic pvp game with the skin of GoW: TCG and SoT: VoL.
For this game using exploration, positioning which is important in the videogame, and dynamic maps which represent more the style of the videogame could have been an insta-back for me. The upcoming Don't Starve: The Board Game seems to manage this, so I'm very excited for that one.

Obviously the reason you selected the Kevin family member to play as your solo character is because he's home alone. "KEVIN!" Hopefully, he will prove to be just as resourceful as his namesake.

hahaha Exactly this. He’s managing it all along after his family ditched him 😜
