- May 26, 2012. I made a visit to Phillipsburg, NJ with my friends 87STEELE and koasterkidd. Our main purpose for heading up there was to see NYS&W 2-8-2 'Mikado' #142 on excursions at the Belvidere and Delaware River Railroad (Bel-Del), also known as the Delaware River Railroad Excursions. 142 was built in 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive Works, and was sporting her original Chinese 5-chime on this day. We will see her at both the Carpentersville Rd. crossing and the Susquehanna Mine.
We also did some railfanning on Norfolk Southern while up there. The trains are as follows:
Train 1: NS 212
Power: NS C40-9W 9491, NS ES40DC 7615, NS C40-9W 8958
Train 2: NS 21M
Power: NS ES40DC 7586, NS C40-9W 9247, NS C40-9W 9656
Train 3: NS 11J
Power: NS ES40DC 7713, NS SD70M-2 2650
Train 4: NS H76 (Portland Secondary)
Power: NS GP38-2, NS GP59 4619
Enjoy!
Great shots at Bel-Del!
When 142 ran those trips, it was owned by the NYSW, which sold all of their passenger equipment in 2003. 142 and the passenger cars were acquired by the Bel-Del for use on their tourist excursions.
Nice. I love 142! You did an awesome job with this video!
You know, Norfolk Southern themselves is running steam this year with Southern 630 and NKP 765 but the only PA appearance will be the 765 in Harrisburg August 18-19 for employee excursions. I was kind of hoping the 765 would run through Allentown to NJ like it did in July/August, 1988.
Why can't Bel-Del run on NS now, now that they're so steam friendly? Excursions to Belvidere and Hackettstown would be cool. Even if they were only once a year or so.
Cool video! Too bad you had to put up with Chad for a day!
The 142 did run public excursions on NJT several years ago, and on the NYSW main line, what happened to those? Too much trouble taking the 142 away from Phillipsburg or NJT no longer wanted steam trains? What about the NYSW main through northern NJ? Why no more steam excursions on that line?
