A couple years ago, I stopped by to check up on this siren once again. This thing is buried in the trees so I figured spring time was the best time to come back. The wind-up is still weird, the pitch still peaks low, but the volume is still loud. It’s a mystery, but my best guess is that it’s on a phase converter and runs at a lower RPM than usual. I got a better look at the stator too. It’s still hard to see, but it appears to be an eight port Model 5 (which I used to call a Model 3)...not to be confused with the larger Model 7 of which we used to call a Model 5...phew that's a mouth full.
From Maukport, you can also hear Brandenburg, Kentucky’s sirens from across the river. Until then, I had no idea they did noon blasts everyday. There’s also a very sick Model 2 that could be heard. Somehow the pitch is even lower than this one. I’ll definitely have to check that one out if it hasn’t been fixed already.
Sirens in Harrison County are tested on the first Saturday of each month at Noon. Tests can range from a minute to a full, alert cycle.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

Incredible!
It's kinda cool that you got underneth the siren.
Awesome to see a new recording of this! This thing still confuses me.
You and me both!
It was thought for a while that this was 6 port, and that was entirely possible since some of the older dual head 5/7s had 6 port rotors. But I've got an 8 port 5 similar to this and the ports look about the same size
Yeah I still can’t rule that out entirely. All I can conclude is that it’s not 12 port.
@@DSRX100 I bet it is an 8 port running at half the normal voltage
@@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL No, is a 6 port.
@@k.a.r.s. Model 3s literally never came in 6 port lmfao. I think this is some kind of Decot in a Model 3 housing that is 6 port
@@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL I'm thinking it's a slow 8 port model with all long vanes
this one sounds quite interesting
an explanation for this that the motor on the siren has been swapped out with a 3 phase lower rpm motor. The awful sounding start up could be from a swapped 3 phase motor using a Star-Delta start up, with the start up jumping in pitch could be the motor starter switching to Delta mode. since the siren has a otherwise smooth constant pitch and very veyr normal wind down this is the most reasonable explanation. It definitly has a lower rpm since it sounds like a French siren (French sirens (old electromechanicle ones) are 8 port but have a lower running rpm). so the most reasonable answer to this sirens weirdness is that "The motor was swapped with a lower rpm motor using a Star-Delta start sequence. The shortened srhoud i have no clue.
Most Mysterious Model 5 ever ngl. I noticed you said it is loud in the description, and normally 8 port model 5s that run at half their voltage aren’t that loud as all. If this is 115dB at 100 feet like any Model 5, then it could be the only 6 port Model 5 known to exist
model 5's 6 port version is louder than 8 port version. i think 120dB at 100 feet.
Oh no! It sounds like it's running at half speed. That windup was concerning, too!
Or it could have a 1720 RPM motor.
it's 8 port (most likely) just underpowered enough to sound like 6 ports
there's like, a non-zero chance this is 6 port but it's still VERY unlikely
@@wigwagstudios2474 6 port.

I just saw your old video the other day and was wondering how this siren was holding up. Not sure how I missed this before but I'm here now!
Whatever this thing is, my bet is 3 phase. Thaat "hitch' in the startup aside (I honestly have no idea what could cause that) the wind up, albeit slower than a normal 5 is perfectly linear, mirroring a 3-phase start.
As for pitch...yeah I'm not too sure either. It has the proper rasp an undertone of an -port siren, but it's running slow, yet not at 1/2 speed. I don't know too much about motor speeds, but 3450 rpm is standard, so to see something slow yet steady peak is odd. Perhaps this siren had a motor swap sometime in its life?
Very interesting! Sounds like an old German siren!
Amazing Colors in the tight shot! What Camera did you use? Cannon, Sony?
Definitely a full frame Sony, the color reproduction is immaculate on the mirrorless and the body I've seen in older videos is pointing to an A7SII or an A7SIII (im assuming) camera
A7SII, although I'm hoping to upgrade to the SIII or A7R IV in the future
@@DSRX100 Honestly, I would go for the A7SIII instead of the A7R IV since its more for video processing, although the A7R IV has more megapixels.
Although, they're both the same price, so if you do more stills then video work I'd go for the A7R IV, they're both good anyway, I can't afford them though 😂
At what time do they test during the daytime?
The sirens in Brandenburg sound really creepy ngl
Any idea where that Model 2 heard is? It’s not the one mounted on the school, is it?
Nah this is a different one. It's at some lift station on Donna Drive in Brandenburg, KY.
When can that sick Model 2 be heard?
Apparently they test everyday, but I've haven't had much luck with it.
that windup didnt sound to god
great audio and video anyway!
Will they fix it or leave it like this? I like the pitch it has now though
They really don't have a need to fix it unless something goes really wrong. It still seems pretty damn loud so I'm sure they'll keep it until they feel like getting a 130 or something, or just getting rid of it due to bitchy people and stuff
I highly doubt they'll fix it. Honestly to the non-siren enthusiasts out there, this sounds fine. It just needs to be hooked up to proper three phase. But I'm certain they'd rather use the money to just get a new siren. Possibly a Sentry.
WHAT? I thought this was gone
Honestly it could be, that last I was here was 2021.
Is this siren used to fire calls or tornadoes?
Tornadoes and severe thunderstorms
@@DSRX100ok thanks
That is a model 3
That housing is too short to be model 5
Its a C2 -1/2 Model 5
Very odd
