  • In the far west of China, the remote and mysterious province of Xinjiang - once at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road - is fast regaining its reputation as a place of influence and opportunity as China builds 21st century trade routes to take its goods to the world. In this culturally rich and climatically harsh region, the potential for growth appears as endless as the landscape.

I don't think it is terribly difficult to separate documentaries about the political affairs of China and nature / cultural documentaries about China, is it?
Of course, recent events in Xinjiang do mean there's lots of news videos about the Uyghurs. So perhaps your keyword searches are skewed. Hopefully, the Beijing government will get over this phase it is going through so that you and I can go back to enjoying what makes China interesting, right?

I can't help feeling amazed that China caught up w/ the West in terms of a modernizing process, i.e., technology in such a short period of time, that is, less than 35-40yrs., which may be unrivaled & incomparable to any other countries in history!? China has become the 2nd. powerful economic power by having superseded Japan in 2011. Now as of 2022, it is not exaggerated to say that it might have reached the position of one of the most powerful nation only to be preceded by the USA?!. That is indeed an astounding feature in consideration of the fact China was in almost in Medieval age in 1970s!? Would anyone comply?? (04/12/22)

Tribal difference. 80% of mongolia is khalkha tribe while in china its mostly chahar and oirat. During qing dynasty now day outer mongolia was governed by khalkha nobles because it was huge and had little population which was almost all nomads so they broke away when qing dynasty collapsed compared to inner mongolia which was ruled directly by qing royals and had many han chinese population. As for xinjiang, it was populated/ruled by the dzungar (oirat branch tribe) mongols but they were wiped out in the dzungar genocide by the khalkha mongols, han chinese and uyghurs backed by qing army. The mongol tribes fought one another for hundreds of years after genghis’s dynasty collapsed making them easy for russia and china to carve up.
