Blimey just found a big box of these Airfix 1/72 HO figures of multiple eras in my basement well preserved some painted even some still plastic wrapped in their boxes.
Yes the mortar and the mills bomb came later, so I omitted them from my project, the retreat ftom Mons 1914. I used HaT figures as well, very nice sculpts. I also used British infantry carved down to use as early war highlanders with kilts. For the Germans I used a mixture of HaT and Strelets, horse foot and artillery.

Nice! Memories from childhood... Grew up playing with these sets. Unfortunately the scale on the soldiers differed a lot. Example - Airfix Napoleonic brit infantry were so much larger than the french imperial guard, making it look stupid playing with them.
I still have this exact set plus the germans, french, and americans from when I was a kid, was always terrible at painting them! may go back and give it another shot after seeing this.
WELL DONE VIDEO SIR,I GOT 3 SETS OF THESE WHEN THESE CAME OUT AND THE AIRFIX WW1 ARTILLERY UNITS. GOT HOOK ON THEM DUE TO DONALD FEATHERSTONE WARGAMES BOOKS.THERE A REAL GOOD VIDEO ON YOU TUBE ABOUT WW1 USING THE AIRFIX WW1 LINE OF BRITISH ,GERMANS AND FRENCH TROOPS. TAKE CARE
Thank you. I have 2 sets of them,2 of the Germans and one set of the Artillery. Plus a few other ww1 sets of the same scale by other companies. Hope to get more sets at some stage. Cheers👍
