That is some crazy shit I've just witnessed! Just when I watched you swim with these sharks I got chills down my spine and risen heart beat.. You guys have nerves of steel..Spearfishing is definitely an art reserved for chosen and brave people. Last trip I got a 23 kg kingy but yours was defo a bigger catch. Great video. Subscribing

Have you ever had problems with that riffe euro? picked one up at the xmas sale and the thing would not shoot straight. Love the look of them... had to stick to my Rail gun tho. Great video by the way. well put together
Hi I used 2x 14mm rubbers cause the two 16s were too powerful and shoot thru snapper into rocks. With a shark fin spear it was really inaccurate but generally ok. Too bulky for NZ diving though, this was my queensland gun.

Any tips for approaching snapper? I've seen them a bunch of times, but whenever I see them they see me and bolt. Seem way spookier than any other fish I've hunted!!

It's good for local dives and doesn't use much fuel.
Do you usually use 1 gun for both kingy/snap? Ive been using a old 100 and doing fine on snaps and a few avg kingys, but im going to buy a new Hatch hawaiin wooden gun. Im stuck between choosing a 110 and a 120. Gun is pretty costly so id like a few opinions from decent spearfishers.
Mike Smith Yea only one gun because the fish live in the same location on the reef so can't swap out. 120 does the job for me but seems a little bulky. I want a 110 tube gun for everything in NZ.

Graeme Lander Go look at one of the first videos he uploaded, has a tutorial on how to touch up underwater footage in adobe after effects and mentions some of his other editing stuff. I dont remember but im pretty sure he mentions using final cut or adobe premiere not sure which though.

There is a marine reserve between Cape Rodney and Parkiri north of Leigh. Leigh has a ton of spearable ground.

Peter Reeve No they taste the same I've probably eaten small snap on the same plate as big snap over a dozen times, I guess around 80% of the fish I shot in summer were male, and I am not handling and releasing loads of small fish causing oil gland infections etc. I try eat 1 or 2 big snapper a week. Takes me about a month to get my boat limit of snapper on spear.

Why do u only shoot trophys and not just hunt a feed? 20lb snapper are going to be uncommon with people like you.
I only shot two fish over 20lb this season. Shot about a dozen good fish to keep me, my mrs and daughter fed in summer. Meanwhile line fishos go out and catch their boat limit. About 80% of the snapper I shot had no roe (males, not breeders). Better than buying it and supporting mass rape and fish dumping.
