  • Microsoft Office can read LibreOffice documents just fine usually, though sometimes, office will give a 'scary' warning when opening Writer documents. This does not mean that your documents have problems. It means that Microsoft wants you using their software only. By following the tips in this video, you will be able to overcome those notices when sending your documents to other users.

    Thank you so much for your time in providing the basic compatibility settings, they were extremely helpful.

    I find ms word made docx files are compatible most of the time, but most issues arise when libreoffice files are opened in microsoft office. This is a common issue in all suites other than microsoft office coz microsoft wants everyone to use microsoft office.

    Thank you very much for what you do. I was wondering if you sent it as a PDF would you have any compatibility issues?

      To save a PDF, make sure you check the option in the document settings to embed the fonts to prevent issues with the PDF not displaying correctly.

    How about opening a .docx file in libreoffice ? I experimented this with one of my manuscript which i had written in MS Word with all figures, formulas and page editing. After opening it in libre office writer, the formatting changed completely. Do you've any solution for this?

    • @WritingDoneRight
      @WritingDoneRight  Před 4 lety +1

      Most issues relate to changes in the fonts. If an exact font is not available to one or the other application, the software will substitute a font to use.

      @@WritingDoneRight I'm using Times New Roman by default for manuscript. There is no issue with fonts. Issue is with page formatting. I've also used WPS Office and OnlyOffice to cross check. Page formatting of a word document remains undisturbed when opened in WPS and OnlyOffice.

      I added a line border to an image in Word. When i opened that document in Libre Writer the line wasn't there!

      @@anjuthanm I've also observed that. Many a times vice-versa! Equations also gets disturbed when written in MS Word and opened in LO Writer.

    libreoffice is good... but I really hate don't had the "autoadjustment"option in tables.... whhyyyy libreoffice don't get it.... why? Libre Oficce vs office 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 is better.... but office 2019 and 2021 are 1 step forward with the option to film presentations (I'm talkin as a teacher) Yes, I know I can do almost the same thing using cam stasia or other screen recorder program, but office makes it easier.

    I downloaded Libre Office and created a bunch of documents. When I saved them, Microsoft word converted them to their format and won't let me edit or print. Has anyone a solution?

    • @WritingDoneRight
      @WritingDoneRight  Před 2 lety

      Check the MS settings to make sure it does not force to save in their format. Either case, you should be able to edit them.

      Yikes! yet another reason to go with FOSS software. Let me know how the tutorials are. I have lots of them. Another one you can look at is OnlyOffice, which is also cross-platform.

    A little comment on this topic. I have had Powerpoint-slides which I recently have seen and which still don't get processed 100% correctly. When the maker uses features like arrows, LibreOffice struggles with it. Or maybe I need to install something extra for it but that would make little sense because that really should be bundled with LibreOffice if that is the case.
    A fellow Linux-CZcamsr - Linuxquest - showed how he can not run design-documents (Word) on LibreOffice in the correct layout.
    I think that MS is more to blame than the foundation which makes LibreOffice but it is a problem. :(
    I have been using OpenOffice and Libreoffice for 15-20 years. For writing, yes, it should be 100% compatible.

    • @cornouws5995
      @cornouws5995 Před 4 lety +1

      That depends on the type of arrows people use, Peter. The support for the relatively new Smart Art is getting much much better in new versions of LibreOffice (and the Collabora products built on that). So apart from picking the latest versions, there is not much you can do about it. Yeah, developing of course ;)

    • @peterjansen4826
      @peterjansen4826 Před 4 lety +1

      @@cornouws5995 It is improving but you can not depend yet on PPT-presentations run by LibreOffice Impress, that is a pity. To a small extend we are still locked into that MS-environment and these days we have to use their website instead of simply downloading PPT-viewer.
      Same for Writer running something that was made by Word. As long as you simply write texts you will be fine but there are some pitfalls, especially for designers who deal with more complicated documents which use some of MS its exclusive toys.
