My preferences for building guitars are set and neck thru. I find that I’m better able to get my string alignment more precise. I’ve had trouble aligning all my bolt ons. Even when I’ve used templates from the overpriced Stewmac.
Only if you constantly remove and reinstall your guitar necks and even then, wood screws work fine. If the threads in the wood strip out, plug the hole with a dowel and drill a new pilot hole.
