A look back at the life and songs of the late Traditional Ballad Singer Liam Weldon. A strong advocate for aural tradition and notoriously wary of self promotion, he left little behind in the way of recordings but his legacy is more alive today than ever, flourishing in a new generation of folk singers. Recently discovered archive footage, stories from family, friends and admirers, performances from Damien Dempsy, Radie Peat [Lankum], Lisa O'Neill and many more, form the narrative of this deeply insightful investigation. Pulling focus on a legendary character that Ireland almost forgot, were it not for the vast footprint his songs and lyrics have left behind in the consciousness of the Irish diaspora. Directed by Myles O'Reilly.

I have never heard of this man or his music before seeing this. I’m from america but damn every time I listen to his songs now I can’t help but cry a little and I’m not even Irish. Thank you for for making this and introducing so many people to this man and his music.

I owe you so many pints Myles. You introduced to me to the new generation of Irish music. And it's a lifetime. Just so many nights listening to Radie Peat or Daoiri Farrell, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin. Lisa O'Neil or Ye Vagabonds. The list goes on. I'm not Irish but my Welsh Dad used to play me traditional Irish music. Luke Kelly and the Chieftains and so on since I can remember taking my first steps. Musically I've always felt a bit isolated lol. But now I'm an old goat I'm so grateful to both my Dad and also you Myles. You have brought me so much joy, not just from the tunes mind. The videos are world class mate.

I don't mind a spiced rum if the day has a y in its spelling. ;D I hold on to the hope that our paths cross in the real world at some point and we can share a moment over a drink, all gods willing. It's been a rough couple of years here. No more than anyone else I'm sure. No dramatics, but the music you have shared has helped get me through to calmer shores. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Love of music provides a constant in life. A redoubt from the buffeting waves. We all need a little shelter now and again to draw a breath and your channel gives us a space and time. Top man. Beautiful stuff.
