I’ve had a couple of things get damaged in the post (one seller wrapped some very fragile ornaments in a loose bit of kitchen towel 🤦🏼‍♀️). I wouldn’t dream of contacting the seller without photographing the damage to prove I was being genuine. That in itself throws up a massive red card 😳 but then they obviously aren’t the smartest scammers on the planet to pick Duplo as the damaged item 😂

Definitely dodgy ! Had a similar thing a few years ago when a customer claimed that 12 out of the 24 magnets they had ordered were broken.... we asked for photos. The lady got very irate and said she didn't know how to do that and she couldn't ' be bothered with the hassle' to return. Left a negative which was removed. 2 weeks later found she had mastered the art of uploading pics when she listed some items for sale !

The only way you can "break" duplo bricks is with metal tools. It's not going to get damaged in the post is it unless the delivery van ran over it.

I really wish ebay had a better way of dealing with scammers at the moment ebay actively helps them. All the scammer has to do is send you something back and ebay will be all over you threatening the selling with black marks etc forcing you to refund them. We all know how useless ebay's help desk is

      @KarlUKmidlands Před měsícem

@@paulwilson1555 No you don't have to have a signature if the tracking shows as delivered this is usually good enough for ebay and you sometimes also get a photo taken by the postman posting or handing over the parcel so in my experience signature wont make that much difference for a claim

@@KarlUKmidlands I used tracked and signed for anything over £50, but since the Royal mail dropped the insurance down to £20 for 1st class recorded, I was tempted to just use rm48 tracked with no signature for under £50 items, as it is quite a bit cheaper then royal mail 1st class recorded and it adds £150 insurance..

I understand that offering a partial refund can be a useful remedy in some cases, but I wish it wasn't the 'go-to' for many resellers. The more it is done, I believe the more buyers will try to get one. I would say that 80% of the buyers that I have (claiming they have an issue) I never hear from again, when presented with the option of returning the item for a refund.

We get similar odd messages like this one, here in the US too. Sometimes, as you say, they are non-english speakers, sometimes I think they are using translation software Our refund/return rules are different then yours, since we can list items as non returnable, then the buyer then opens what is called an Item Not As Described case, trying to override our listing policy and it goes through the US eBay process favoring the Buyer. What is hard for us, is proving it's a scam, since eBay wants us to just issue a return label and eat the cost oof shipping the item back to us for review. We have the option to refund and let the buyer keep the item, but I rarely do that. I want the item back to call their bluff.
I look at all such claims and make a decision on a case by case basis, but the first thing I do in almost all cases is put them on my Blocked Bidder/Buyer list, so they can't buy from me again. And like this case, we sometimes never hear from the buyer again, once we say send it back for review. 😉

Hi Nic - I would have done exactly the same as you have - certainly sounds like phishing, I get them sometimes too, thankfully rarely though.
As a buyer I've occasionally had ebay purchases I have made arrive badly damaged, I take pics of the parcel and of the contents immediately and message the seller. I am always polite and friendly. I have had partial refunds and full refunds in the past, depending on the damage. Some haven't wanted me to return the item if badly damaged as an ebay return might mean their paying return shipping and they'd have to dispose of the item - me approaching them prior to opening a return case helps to avoid this.
As a seller I would like the same response from my buyers with damaged items - I really would rather not pay for a damaged item return.

Scammer 100%. The bricks are ABS plastic, it is very hard to break (it can flex and be damaged if flexed too far) but it's extremely durable and that's why they use it for child toys knowing it will withstand lots of abuse.

The Partial Refund Scam on ebay is the biggets scam going now. That and the returj an empty box scam. Ebay does nothing about it either.

    Bit cynical everyone
Are they new to ebay ?
And may not understand The options
The item may well of been damaged in posting
And so some pieces did fall out of the squashed box
They still deliver the item after they have damaged it is
I would have been more understanding in my response
With an Apology and could they please send me some pictures
Still makes another video for clicks and cash

Patient of a saint with the general public, frustration is the understatement on this scammer.
eBay causes these type of scammers it’s to easy claiming some Lego duple has been damaged, Lego is incredibly tough item! Hide side next time count every item into the box when videoing for proof it’s getting ridiculous on eBay.
Well done you never let it get you down when a scammer tries to pull the wool over your eyes🥸
