  • Ontario is introducing a suite of measures that will crack down on cellphone use and vaping in schools. The new rules will go into effect in the 2024-2025 academic year.

    As a teacher, I can say there’s been such a ban on phones recently that’s kinda crazy, but the real onus is on the parents who need to teach their own children how to handle technology properly. You can only expect so much of teacher who see sa kid for maybe 8-15 hours a week, where as the parent literally controls them and their free time at home. You can’t expect an iPhone/ipad to raise a kid

    What if learning was actually made fun and captured the attention of young minds? There's a big reason why very few students actually enjoy learning, and that's because it's taught in a way that's usually boring and doesn't keep their attention for long, if at all.
    School needs to be a place where students are excited to go and learn and sad because they have to go home after the school day is over.

    Cell phones were just becoming affordable when I was in school. Now, they aren't the smartphones we have today, but they still weren't allowed in class. When did it become ok? Because my old ass would never have thought they would be ok at any point in time.

      When I was 15 I had a phone which allowed my mom to get a hold of me , in turn that allowed me to say goodbye to my father while he was actively dying from an accident at work.
      Things happen and life can change in an instant. Nothing wrong with being prepared. You don't want your kids to have a phone feel free. As soon as mine are spending more time away from me they're getting one. There's no perfect book written on parenting either. Nobody has all the answers so lay off the tik tok parenting advice.
