  • This the magnificent home of Gail Lettick, located in Woodbury, CT. In the 18th Century this property began as a 120-acre farm that bordered on the Pomperaug River. The oldest part of this home dates back to 1775, according to the town records. In the beginning, the living space consisted of one large room with a fireplace, having one room above it, accessed by a ladder. This first large room is now the living room. The house was enlarged around 1815, when it became a more 'updated' and important homestead with a front and back staircase and four bedrooms. It was at this time that the single room with fireplace was turned into and used as the home's woodshed. All the 'new' rooms in the house were fitted with wide board flooring, which remains intact to this day. The family room, which is now the kitchen was a later addition created by the previous owners in 1979.
Litchfield County became a very rich and vibrant region during this period because it collected a high tariff from all goods that had to pass through the county to transport products of every sort from Boston to New York. This single tax created wealth and in many cases, great fortunes. In turn, large and extravagant homes were built all over the county. It was mandated that homes had to be built no less than 2 acres in distance between every home. So, the main street onto which this house sits were completely lined with imposing 18* and early 19* Century (mostly clapboard) homes. Today, this house and property is part of the historic district in Woodbury, Connecticut. Presently, there are over a dozen active antique shops in this vicinity. For over 50 years, Woodbury has been called the "Antiques Capital of Connecticut".
Gail’s beautiful home houses one of these wonderful shops~

What a practical home ■ useful for today as well; the colors and careful pieces make living in art a hands on experience. Great job! M

2nd time watching this video…..from my phone that is. 😏 I’m always worried that I have too many candlesticks because it’s becoming one of my addictions. But after watching how she incorporated them all throughout her home, I realized, I don’t have enough! What to do? What to do? 😜
