If you fill the water from the down spouts you will get a bunch of fine gravel/grit from the roof shingles
just needs a filter at the entrance

Won't the water in the barrel stagnate after a time and won't it need a vent to stop the vacuum effect and a flow through to keep it fresh

The water needs changed daily for real.
Great idea. I used my 4" hole saw which is 4" id the elbo is 4"od. Then I just took my torch and softened up the edges of the hole. This allowed me to easily push in the elbo. And it also sealed it after it cooled off.
I would love to get one for a rain barrel for my plants and flowers and run a downspout in the top part just below the lid and put a spigot in the bottom third

To help with the wrist breakings, run the drill in reverse to start with. It's a good idea if it comes up, do the same thing if drilling a hole in vinyl siding.

Should have your waterer in the shade. Direct sun will make the water hot and funky.
We can always move it. We plan a bi weekly cleaning or as needed anyway. But definitely understand what your saying

Glad to see you wearing protective equipment while using the chainsaw. And standing well to the side. So many people don’t do either. If you’re going to use a downspout, get a first flush system to help reduce or eliminate dirt, leaves, and detritus before it gets to the main waterer.
Drop in a 150 watt fish aquarium heater for the winter time to prevent freezing.

See if you can work some this summer with a local company to get some experience. Have a plan, advertise, advertise, advertise, use all the free social media's you can. Ask family and friends to get the word out or if they need a hand with the lawn. Upgrade equipment as you grow and can be more efficient and profitable.

How much feed do they spill on the ground around the feeder? I am curious since I see the feed close to the top of the feed spots. My babies like to make all their feed get on the ground and only pick out what they want to eat so I have a mess of feed everywhere

Shawn, remember just a few days ago where you rescued that Echo Weed eater? Well today, I was driving down a road in town and i found a br700 on the side of the road to be thrown away. I couldn't believe it. I stopped and knocked on the door to make sure, and sure enough, they were gonna trash it. I got it home and it looked almost brand new inside. It runs like a dream, but needs a few new plastic pieces.

It the water lid is sealed tightly it will form a vacuum and eventually stop the water from coming out the poultry nipples when they are pressed. You may need to add a vent if the lid is sealed tight.
Peck waterer let's air inside, they won't have a problem.

Been using this for about 3 years. Never seen any signs of mice. Mine are on concrete pads 6 inches off the ground. The barrel overhang the blocks a few inches so there's not really a way for them to climb into the feed holes.

Won't the water get nasty after a while? Great idea, but maybe just fill part way to what they use in a week?
We frequently clean all of our dishes, so I will designate a mop brush for frequent cleaning, and we will add apple cider vinegar to the water.
This would be nice for us if we go on long trips but my grandma takes care of them and i like to feed them by hand so they still stay friendly. Also we just build a pond so they have alot of water to drink. But when we come back from vacation 🇷🇸 🇧🇦 🇭🇷, were gonna move our ducks in to the main coop when they get older. After that every couple days instead of every couple weeks, will have to change the water. But its better than everyday like how we used to do it not to long ago.
How do you make sure the water sitting in the sun doesn’t get moldy and that gross slime from hot water sitting in the barrel
You can throw a copper fitting in it or any pure copper and it will really help keep it clean.

Put a big aquarium heater in there. Or you could also hook it up to a chiller for the summer ti e as well. You should cut a hole in the lid and cut some screen or a filter sock or something to keep debris out of the water
